Summary: A movie even Nicholson could not save ...
Review: This is a slow moving and boring movie. The slowness of the movie is aggravated by the acting of Helen Hunt. Ms. Hunt goes through the movie with a woody expression. There is furniture in the picture that is more expressive than she is. So watch something else and dont bother with this one. By the way Nicholson is spectacular as usual.

Summary: As Pretty Good As It Gets
Review: Good times. Noodle salad. This movie definately deserved the two Oscars it landed for Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. Nicholson comes shining through as always, and Hunt has definately improved since her disaster in "Twister". Witty humor and a very clever, creative intertwining of characters define the strength of this movie.

The one thing I didn't like was how Nicholson and Hunt evolved into a dating couple. Nicholson changed every single negative aspect of his character to please Hunt. Hunt's character is chock full of undesirable traits, and she makes not even the slightest attempt to change for Nicholson. In the end it gets absurd, when OCD suffering Nicholson cannot walk on the cracks in the sidewalk, and instead walks into the street straddling the curb. Hunt looks at what he's doing and very selfishly says, "Whatever this is....it's not gonna work". Oh Hunt, forgive Nicholson please. Please! I know his OCD is causing you inconvenience, but give him a few seconds to overcome his lifelong mental disorder so that he can walk with you on the sidewalk and make you feel like a more "normal" couple. It's all about you, Hunt, it's all about you.

Save for Hunt's blatant selfishness, though, the film was excellent.

Summary: A reviewer
Review: A message to all of the people that enjoyed this movie so much - please take note that this film grossly misrepresents OCD. I am only leaving this review because this is the first (and to my knowledge only) movie that addresses the very serious condition of OCD. It is a shame that the producers put so little effort into accurately showing the pain and misery the disorder actually can cause for the people who suffer from it. Definitely not appropriate romantic-comedy subject matter. I don't want to be a downer, but being the first mainstream introduction to OCD for most people, they should know that the condition is much different than the light-hearted approach the filmakers took.

Summary: Gotta see feel good comedy
Review: This movie is one of my favorites, which is why I added it to my collection. Because I like it so much, I would like the reader to know what a fun ride to expect.

Jack Nicholson is an aging, obsessive-compulsive man who is basically content to tolerate the world around him long enough so that he can write his romance novels and die. He hopes the rest of the world will lead the way, though. One thoughtless comment to a woman whom is the closest thing he has to a friend causes him to make a few subtle changes in his life that lead to bigger changes.

As his character slowly grows up, the audience gets to enjoy his interactions with all the people you would think a man like this would spend his entire life running from as they slowly become his family.

It's possibly a fair statement to say that the theme of this movie is that wounded people can help to heal each other in ways no healthy person ever could but the point of the movie is simply to follow the main character as he learns how to love, something he constantly writes about but knows nothing of.

The script is filled with emotion and will take you from lauging out loud to crying in whimpers (hopefully not REALLY crying, but the point is made).

The comedy in this film is hilarious. There is pretty much every type of comedy represented, but a great deal of it stems from sarcasm.

Cuba Gooding Jr.'s performance is my favorite here because he's just so hard to figure out. His motivations are obvious, but his character's attitudes change frequently, which I imagine is likely for a dealer who has to deal with multiple artists and a crazy man such as Mr. Nicholson.

DVD extras are skimpy but do include a commentary with Jack and Helen among others. But it's a romantic comedy, what else is required?

Summary: Jack Nicholson at his best!
Review: Great movie, a must have for every Nicholson fan.

Summary: AWESOME MOVIE!!! 5 starts isn't enough
Review: Of course, I'm extremely biased because Jack Nicholson is my all-time favorite actor, and I have only seen one movie with him in it that was less than stellar, and that was Wolf. Well, this movie is FAR from that. As far as I'm concerned, this is probably his FUNNIEST and best movie yet! Every time I watch this (and I've seen it upwards of 50 times), I laugh so hard that I almost, well.....you get the idea. Anyways, I can't stress this enough......BUY THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Touching
Review: I really believed that this was going to be a poor movie, but after seeing it 5 years after it came to theaters, I loved it! I think it has a good spirit, with a tale about a gay man, his grumpy neighbor, a waitress struggling to support her son, and a kind little dog. Makes for a weird plot, but it is a great story, and in the end, it has some great plot twists. The neighbor of the gay man, well played by Jack Nicholson, who must watch his neighbor's dog while he was in the hospital after being beaten up. It sparks a set of events, sometimes hilarious, sometimes very sad. If you like comedys at all, or even the wonderful Jack N., then this movie may just be the kind fitted for you!

Summary: Kinnear should have won the Oscar!
Review:
Besides Kinnear, another outstanding feature of this film is the ease of how it expresses the way women think and feel. Although Jack's final speech to Helen is worded exactly as a woman wants a man to praise her, Jack is able to make it sound spontaneous and masculine. I've only mentioned the 2 things I like best about the film, but it's excellent on all dimensions.

Summary: 'Grow On You' type movie, but commentary is GREAT!
Review: When I first saw this movie in the theater, I wasn't too thrilled with it. Granted, Kinear's performance is the best of his career thus far, and Nicholson is always a delight, and his Melvin manages to be repulsive and endearing at the same time. Helen Hunt's performance was inexplicably Oscar-worthy, and I wasn't as impressed with her as the other two leads. Her accent fluctuates on several occasions, which I found distracting.

I received the DVD as a gift, and thankfully, the commentary made me appreciate the movie more. Commentary is provided by Brooks, Nicholson, Hunt and Kinnear. It really helped me to view the film in different lights, and now I appreciate the movies more subtle tones.

This is definitely a worthwhile addition to your DVD collection.

Summary: A must for the collection !!
Review: Jack Nicholson and a fantastic supporting cast have made what I think is one of the finest films I have had the pleasure to see. Well rounded and able to satisfy, much like a fine meal.
Every aspect of this film was well done and I feel words could not express what a worthy investment it is.
