Rating: Summary: Truly a classic, one of the best movies of all time. Review: Julie Andrews is at her best. This film contains some of the best songs of all time. The story line is interesting, well done, and keeps your attention. My family has seen this movie many many times (we have worn out one tape) and it continues to be a favorite.
Rating: Summary: The most delightfully, charming love story ever!!! Review: I completely enjoy the music, scenery of alps, as well as the charming love story between Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. The acting of both was done to perfection!
Rating: Summary: My all-time favourite movie!!! Review: Maria, the young postulant misfit, is sent by the Mother Abbess to be a governess to the seven children of Captain Von Trapp, a widower. The Captain runs his family 'like he was on one of his ships', and uses whistle signals to call his children. (In a hilarious moment, Maria turns the tables on him...Watch to find out how!) But a prolonged absence by the Captain shortly after she takes up her post gives her an opportunity to implement her ideas for raising children, and very successfully so. The children soon fall in love with her, and she with...the Captain! After the necessary (but VERY touching) drama to make us wonder if he loves her (Did I mention there is a Baroness with designs on the Captain?), things come together for them. But trouble rears its ugly head in the form of Hitler and his Third Reich. When the Germans give Von Trapp an ultimatum to join their Navy, the patriotic Captain is determined to escape with the family to Switzerland. Do they make it? You'll have to watch and find out, won't you! A great movie, easily the best musical of all time! Its appeal is universal., and you will find yourself humming the favourites 'Do Re Mi', 'My Favourite Things' and 'Edelweiss', among other charming numbers. A must-see movie for all!!
Rating: Summary: A true classic! Review: I saw this movie for the first time when I was 5 years old. Although I didn't understand what an abbey was, or why Maria was considered a problem, I loved the movie. I recently bought this movie, and it has been all I want to watch. I love the songs "Edelweiss" and "Something Good", which is sung when Maria and the Captain declared their love for each other. I reccommend this movie for anyone who wants to see a true classic.
Rating: Summary: A Timeless Classic! Review: My mother loved watching this movie when she was a little girl. Her choices of those breathtaking musical movies, like "The Sound of Music" and "Chitty Bang Bang" are passed on like a family treasure. My little children love watching them, stopping all other "exciting" things (like playing with their favorite toys & software games) when Maria starts to sing or Chitty starts racing in the Grand Prix. Your eyes will be just as glued!!!
Rating: Summary: THE HILLS ARE ALIVE WITH THE SOUND OF MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: When Maria(Julie Andrews) is sent away to be a governis for Captain von Trapp(Christopher Plummer), and his seven children, Maria is sure she has confidence. At first the children don't like Maria, but are very used to her soon. Maria teaches the childen how to sing and do vocal music. Capt. V. Trapp doesn't like the idea of his children singing. Then the German soldiers want the Austran Captain Von Trapp. When Maria and Captain Von Trapp marry the German soldiers want the captain instanly. Then the family relizes they must hide and leave Austria!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: This film may be enjoyed on many levels Review: While "The Sound of Music" is considered by many as one of the finest musicals ever made, viz. the triple header of Wise, Rodgers, and Hammerstein, the film has a complexity missed by one time viewers. Since it has become a favorite of my kids and I often join them as they watch the video, some of the more subtle aspects have emerged. The political message, the moral choice between succumbing to the Nazi's rise in power or standing one's ground at the risk of losing all, the love triangle and its resolution, and the near loss of a father's relationship with his children are all here. Whether the package is too quaint or not is almost beside the point. The stark, shocking contrast between the majestic beauty of the Austrian Alps and the shout of "heil Hitler" is one of the film's most stunning moments. Viewers who study these elements would be rewarded for their efforts by a deeper understanding of some important themes of the film.
