Review: I first saw "A Place in the Sun" over forty years ago. Today I never miss it when it's on television. This movie is just so incredibly beautiful and engrossing. Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor make such a beautiful couple onscreen. And it was so refreshing because I knew that Montgomery Clift loved Liz's character because she was who she was, not because of her wealth. And the movie had such a sad ending... oh, I cried so hard. This is a drama that you will fall in love with. They don't make pictures with this beautiful entertainment anymore... watching two people fall in love. See the movie's closeups... even in black and white, the true love that Clift and Taylor really had for each other breaks through on the screen... don't miss this movie. It has earned its place in the sun.

Review: Among the top 100 films of all time this gem from the early fifties solely belongs on it. George Stevens has fashioned a memorable and stirring adaptation of the novel by Theodore Dreiser's "An American Tragedy." Montgomery Clift stands out as the poor and wretched nephew of a wealthy businessman. He slowly starts to climb the ladder of success when he sees the lovely Elizabeth Taylor, who was 19 at the time. However, he has also become involved with the maidish Shelley Winters and their one night together results in a pregnancy. With his future suddenly becoming brighter and more promising, the bitter truth from Winters threatens to bring him down and destroy him. However one cannot fool the way life works, and it all comes back to seek revenge upon him for what he does to secure his place in the sun of high society. Six Oscars went to this masterpiece for its brilliant direction from Stevens, screenplay adaptation, cinematography which looks creepy and then blossoming when appropriate, Franz Waxman's moody music score, Edith Head's incredible costume designs for Taylor, and film editing, which keeps the film moving and never letting up interest. However audiences and critics were in an uproar in 1951 when it lost Best Picture to a musical that year. This film's content was ahead of its time in some aspects for it deals with pregnancy, lust, a one night stand, and cheating your way up the ladder of success. There are few films that can equal the powerful impact of emotion this film evokes for the characters. You can't help but feel sorry for Winters when she becomes victimized and lied to by Clift, thus leaving her to fend for herself while he goes on in the carnival of a life of sheer luxury. The most terrifying and pulse-pounding scene takes place on the lake, where tragedy and shock occur. The photography adds tension and fear, you can sense that danger is waiting somewhere. One of the greatest films ever and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a genuine film buff of the classics and this film is an eternal landmark in the world of movies.

Review: This is a tragic yet wonderful love story. Elizabeth Taylor (Giant, Cleopatra, Butterfield 8) gives another riviting perfomance as a spoiled little rich girl and Montgomery Clift (From Here to Eternity, Suddenly Last Summer) plays a young man struggeling to fit in , srataling both sides of soceity. The acting is very good and the characters are extremley believable. I felt so bad for George (Clift) the entire movie and I found after it was over it left me thinking about the characters for days. This is a powerful movie and has a great cast. The fact Dame Elizabeth Taylor is in it is reason to watch it alone!

Review: The movie A Place in The Sun is a story of external and internal conflict. George has to choose between the rich girl or the factory girl. It has a twist at the end. The title is decieving. Overall, it was a good love story but not a "by the book" love story.

Review: This is a great love story between two different social classes. The movie has a great ending and it is very sad.

Review: I thought that the film was great because of the surprise ending. The way that the film ended really showed that things don't always turn out the way you expect them to. The plot was really interesting but I did not like how George Eastman treated women. Overall the whole idea of the film was good and kept me interested in the film. The actors and actresses really played their role well and created a great feel of emotion. Great film and very impressive job by all.

Review: I thought that this movie had a lot of feeling and emotion. I had no idea that Alice was going to end up dead at the hands of George. So they did a good job of keeping the movie from being predictable. The scenes with George saying goodbye to Angela were somewhat on the dramatic side. The emotion was just flowing from the movie as they kissed their last kisses. I had no idea that George would be found guilty. He seemed so innocent on the stand. I would have believed him.

Review: While watching this movie in class I was captured by the clever minds of each of the characters. At first look, it seems that George Eastman is a shy, dimwitted man, who wants to mooch off his uncle. As the story progresses, George captures our hearts with his secret love relationship with Alice. The seemingly beautiful Angela Vickers soon entrances George, taking his mind off everything except her. As their relationship progresses, Alice becomes more and more distant-disgusted by George's actions. The spellbinding relationship between Angela and George is romantic. But as the world knows you can't have your cake and eat it too, as George realizes in the end. He ends up paying the price for his careless actions as he finds his own Place in the Sun.

Review: This is my favorite movie! Montgomery Clift plays THE American role. Everyone is tempted my money, power, and beauty. Shelly Winters was excellant and I believed every line she said. Elizabeth Taylor was great too! I think this is the difinative movie on greed and wealth.

Review: Montgomery Cliff does a great job of drawing your sympathy even as he repels you in his actions. His desire for the beautiful girl and life with money and luxury is typically American. Winters is also excellent as the poor girl who will do anything to keep her man and yet pays the ultimate price for not being wealthy.
