Summary: A great achievemnt in film making
Review: Seeing the film on the big screen in the Summer of 1998 I was surprised how magnificent this film is - much more moving than on video. Clark Gable's performance is perfect, and has not aged one bit. The part of Scarlet has aged some. This is not due to Vivien Leigh - her performance is also perfect. It is hard to imagine anyone else in the role of Scarlet. Some of Scarlet's dialogue is pretty creaky now. The production values in this movie are astonishing! The attention to detail in every scene is amazing. Film makers of today could really learn a lesson from GWTW. Hattie McDaniels "Mammy" is one of the best performances in the film. The characters of Mammy & Rhett are the ones that hold up the best today. If only Selznick had cast someone else as Ashley (Leslie Howard sleepwalks through the part) the film would be even greater than it already is.

Summary: An enchanting romance etched in stone.
Review: Gone with the Wind is a superb movie portrayed wonderfully. The scenes a just awesome! When Scarlett witnesses the horror of war in the hospital scene, it really hit home for me. This movie is definately one that you should add to your collection! It's a classic!!

Summary: My favorite movie of all time
Review: I was born and raised in Georgia and this movie about the old South is as good as it gets. The acting is superb and brings to life the characters from the book. The four main actors could not have been better suited for their roles. Simply put, GWTW is a classic of classics and no other movie ever made can match it.

Summary: A masterpiece on film!!!
Review: I recieved this movie on holiday this year and it is truly unsurpassed, as you may well have heard, by any other film I know. I am a big fan of the classic old films from silent to Bogart and Cagney. If you are looking for something to move you to tears everytime this is the film for you. The acting is wonderful!!!

Summary: There is no 'widescreen' Gone with the Wind!!!!!!!!
Review: When Gone with the Wind was made, there was no widescreen aspect ratio!!! This DVD includes the proper aspect ratio!!! And it looks pristine. Compare it to earlier versions and see why.

Widescreen movies didn't appear until after TV entered the American homes on a wide basis. Hollywood needed a gimmick to get people back to the theaters and they decided to start showing a picture that could not be seen on a standard television.

Again, there is nothing wrong with this version of GWTW!

Summary: There is NO WIDESCREEN VERSION
Review: This version of the film is the same aspect ratio as was seen on the original theater run. Widescreen was NOT YET INVENTED when GWTW came out. In the 70's it was rereleased in widescreen, but all they did was hard matte the film, which means they cut off the top and bottom of the film. This is the TRUE ASPECT RATIO of the film so please ignore the post asking you to wait for the widescreen version. Panavision (or Scope) came out in after 1950 as an alternative to the television (1.33) aspect ratio to get people back into the movie theaters.

Summary: GWTW is the greatest movie ever made and cannot be equaled!
Review: I, like many others, dreaded the thought of sitting down for 4 hours to watch a 50 year old movie, but from the first "Fiddle-dee-dee" to the last "Tomorrow is another day", I was entranced. GWTW is not a movie that I have been able to watchjust once. I have watched it numerous times, each time telling Scarlett to do things differently and crying as Rhett left her standing alone in Atlanta. I never tire of seeing this movie and I don't know how anyone could miss theopportunity to see this epic love story.

Summary: The best romantic movie of all time.
Review: When you watch this movie, it's hard to believe that it was made in 1939. It is truly a masterpiece. The facts are that it is a story about a spoiled Southern belle that doesn't let anything stop her from getting what she wants; even though most of the time she really doesn't know what that is. Too bad it takes until the end of the movie to figure out that it is Rhett Butler and not the wimp--Ashely Wilkes that is her heart's desire. The scenery is beautiful and I never get tired of watching it. I have seen it so many times that I have most of the lines memorized!

Summary: Brilliant!
Review: There will never be another movie like "GWTW" It is simply perfection. Leigh and de Havilliand are two of the most beautiful women around and deserved their acclaim. And Clark Gable is freaking hot!!!!!!! Let us love this movie and execute the naysayers. They are stupid!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fantastick video and excellent audio
Review: I cannot agree with some of the other reviewers regarding the sound quality of the 5.1 dolby digital track. I found this new track a real enhancement. The sound was definitiely three dimensional with the split surrounds used very effectively at times and it also had some amazingly powerful subwoofer effects when called for.As far as the picture quality is concerned, I cannot see how it can be improved upon. For a movie which is 60 years old, the restoration was nothing short of miraculous.
