Summary: Could've been better...
Review: This movie had potential, I thought it should've been better, but nonetheless it was fairly entertaining to watch. The main character is also the director, he probably cast himself because he'll never be in anyone else's movie. Yes the acting was pretty poor, except for Christopher Walken, Chazz Palmenteri, and I even bought Ricky Schroder's part. Mike Massey the champion 9-baller and trick-shot pro makes a cameo. The pool sequences are mostly quick cut-and-zoom, and fast editing which takes away from the look and feel of the shots. There are a few nice shots in the movie though. Overall the plot was not original, but it was OK, but there were several uneeded sub-plots and characters. The movie just gets downright cheesy in some parts. Even after all that, for reason I was able to overlook the mistakes and enjoy the movie. Maybe because I just like the whole pool hall atmosphere?

Summary: Well Awl-Right!
Review: This movie was awesome. We went in knowing nothing, with only the urge to see a movie and a complete lack of options. Having already seen everything that was of note, we decided to go for it. I being a fan of what I like to call new age cult films was oddly intrigued. Count me impressed. It had a storyline that moved, entertaining characters, that you want to come out on top; very interesting cinemotography (which often makes or breaks a film for me) and as far as I could tell, nothing in common with everything else we've seen this year. I can see some people not liking the movie simply because of it's style. It reminds me of something out of the James Dean era. Very Good.

Summary: This movie was awesome
Review: This movie was one of the best movie's I've seen since Rounders. It gives the viewer a great sense of the preasure of high stakes pool and the life surrounding it. Mars Callahan was absolutely amazing, he made the movie! I suggest everyone own this movie.

Summary: Better than given credit for
Review: This was a movie that is better than it is being given credit for. Anyone that plays pool, like myself, will appreciate this movie. But like "The Color of Money" and "The Hustler" if you dislike pool the slitest bit , you are gonna hate it. And contrary to "Wannabe poole" there, Mike Massey was indeed in this movie at the Pro tournament. Walken like usual acts his role to perfection. And the "final" hustle of the movie was classic. And also the 4 balls off the table hustle mentioned by another reviewer as "not likely" is actually commen and easy to pull off against your average joe who doesnt play often where they think you have to make 8 balls and they only have to make 4, but in order for this to work you need to be good enough not to miss. All things in this movie seem to fit right to me except the putting the money on the lights, most pool halls dont allow gambling, but dont try to stop it either. All in all being a person that lives thier life in and out of a pool hall, this movie fit most aspect perfectly and the low profile cast helped to concentrate on the movie instead of the actors...

Summary: This one almost slid past me.
Review: Well, having seen both the Hustler and The Color of Money, I thought I knew what this movie was going to be all about. But to put it bluntly, I was all wrong. This movie was almost an anti-hustling movie, it has to do with a kid who had the chance to make it big in the pool world but was used by his manager to make money in the back-room tables. Then Fast-forward to his adulthood and how his only skill is pool and how he must return to the hustling ways of childhood to "save-the-day". All in all, a very entertaining watch, worth the money to see in the theatre, rent or even worth buying.

Summary: My number one movie of all time
Review: While I don't know a whole lot about pool, as a movie this one stands out above almost all others to me. It's probably the fact that the characters in the movie are very similar in several regards to me and my friends, we're all around the early to mid 20's mark, but this movie was something that to me could be taken right out of real life and dramatized into this (too?) brief movie. Sure, there are things no 'real' huslter would do, there's some loose ends and some of the escapades are a bit outlandish, but its all very entertaining and not entirely outside the realm of possability and the music is perfect, bluesy to fit the mood of a guy in the somewhat sketchy parts of an inner city trying to make it by and earn few bucks and respect from others and for himself while finding out who he really is.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Not too shabby.
Review: While this film is a tad predictible, it's still a lot of fun. The trick shots are a blast to watch, the soundtrack is awesome and there are a few laughs and surprises.

Honestly, though, how can you go wrong with a movie starring Christopher Walken, Chazz Palminteri and Michael Rosenbaum? All three give stellar performances, and are completely entertaining, especially Rosenbaum (all bad lip-syncing aside).
