Review: This mini-series was the best thing I have ever seen on television. I am a big-fan of war movies/shows and I have no doubt in my mind that Band of Brothers is at the very top of the list. Some of my favorites are Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Glory and Apocalypse Now. None of these aforementioned movies can hold a candle to Band of Brothers. It is a masterpiece to behold! I implore the powers-that-be at HBO to release this DVD collection ASAP.

Review: HBO, who has the best entertainment bang for the buck with their Sunday night original programming, has made yet another first rate product. This film adaptation from Stephen Ambrose's book of the same name was expertly crafted. The casting was superb, with the cast extremely closely resembling the true life heroes they depicted. The film quality had a gritty, "man in the battlefield" documentary feel, making the viewer feel the intensity. There was no way a film studio could have told the full story of Easy Company the way HBO did, because there was no way it could be condensed into a 2 to 3 hour film. HBO created 10 masterpieces, each an hour long, that will fill Americans with deep appreciation for the sacrifice that these young men made that we may continue to live free. They may not look at themselves (the men of Easy Company) as heroes, but they are, and this movie will prove it. If you appreciate World War 2 history, or just love a great patriotic movie, this series will fit both bills perfectly. Please HBO, do not deny us the pleasure of owning this great work any longer!

Review: Honestly, I am wary of watching any war film because of the feeling that it leaves me with. Loss of life is such a waste, and for what? For one group of people to exert power over another? But with BOB, there was a feeling of accomplishment and a sense of unity. These people were thrown together because of a higher conflict and faced all that war had to dish out to them. This 10 part series was an extraordinary journey through a time and life that, we pray to God, we never have to see again. The series gave us an opportunity to try imagine what these human superheroes did for us and our freedom that we hold so dear today.
I would like to thank Tom Hanks and Stephen Speilberg for their time and efforts in making this possible. Giving us a rare look into a time that will always be marked in the history books, but a time we (generation x) will never have to feel.
I thought that the whole undertaking was well orchastrated, though I did have trouble keeping track of who was who...at first. But as you watch it a few times, people and names start to stick in your mind. The acting was superb and I was VERY impressed with Damien Lewis. I think that he did an excellent job of portraying Major Winters.
All in all, a worthwhile series to buy and watch, over and over.

Summary: "A Band of Brothers" is hauntingly real
Review: As ex-military, I've known the closeness... the bond between "brothers". It's been nearly 40 years since I've seen some of the men I served with, but I still consider them my best and closest friends. Some of you may know friends from clubs, frats, sororities, lodges, etc, but you will never have the bonding of servicemen. It's not the uniform, or haircut, regimentation, or being cold, wet, and hungry together. It's not anything I can describe in a way someone who has not experienced it can easily understand.
"Saving Private Ryan" gave a new level of realism to war movies, but it didn't completely portray the true spirit of men who are involved in the very dangerous business of combat. "Brothers" has accomplished that.
"Brothers" portrays the dedication of a band of civilians as they make the transformation to veteran combat soldiers with an authenticity I've never seen in any movie, and very, very few books. I think most of the realism and believability of the characters is the fact that most of the actors are little known. They're not the same old familiar faces we've seen a thousand times in different roles. These men look like the average young men-on-the-street we see every day in markets, malls, ball games, etc, and are not given a second look. These are exactly the men who jumped into France and Holland. "Band of Brothers" is a story of common men who lived, suffered, and died together in very uncommon and terrible times.
This is an absolute must-see movie. HBO & Dreamworks/Playtone screwed up BIG TIME when they didn't have this already on DVD and ready for a Christmas release. Since it's a 10 part series, I don't know if it will be repeated on TV, but if is, DON'T MISS IT !! When it finally does come out, by all means buy it or at least rent it... but SEE IT. The authenticity and attention to detail of both the American and German uniforms and equipment is phenomenal. To see them is like looking through a window into the past, and not at some poor shlep who central casting dressed up in a "soldier suit". The battle sequences will have you breathing fast & shallow and will leave you with sweaty hands, but the true poignant part of the entire series is the interview segments with the actual men of Easy Co, 506th PIR. I'm looking forward to the DVD release, and I do hope these interviews are included. The follow-up segment of the series is, "We stand alone together.. the men of Easy Co." This is a 1 hr, 15 min series of interviews and current visits (by some of the men of "Easy") to the actual locations in Europe where "Easy" and the 506th fought. I hope this too is included in the DVD series.
Do yourself a favor and don't miss this movie. It doesn't matter whether you're a dove or a hawk, it's involvement and portrayal of mankind makes it one of the very best.

Summary: Band of Brothers
Review: This was by far the most exciting and realistic portrayal of WWII I have seen to date. I was glued every Sunday to the TV to watch it and am still sad that it is over. In my opinion it made "Private Ryan" look like an amatuer...silent film... Now that HBO has decided to deprive us of reruns I am hoping it comes out on DVD, although since "Earth to the Moon" took almost two years to see the light of DVD it could be a long cold wait in our foxholes for this gem to come out. If you haven't seen this yet, go and beg your friend that was smart enough to tape it and maybe they'll part with it to let you watch. It really is a must see even if you are not a fan of War genre films. The actors were all phenominal, and seeing how most of them are unknowns it is a wonder why Hollywood pays 20 mil for someone who can barely say the word "uh" and make it sound believable. All I can say is, when the DVD comes out I am watching Spiers' run of glory on loop about fifty times!

Review: This series was awesome! It was obvious that Tom Hanks was involved as it was so very well made. The show seemed very realistic and depicted the excitement and some of the horrors of World War II. I can't wait for this to come out on DVD and I hope that HBO makes another series like this focusing on war. In today's world of computer graphics and visual effects, war movies and westerns should make a resurgence as they could be redone to appear so life-like and real.

Review: After seeing the first episode I was so addicted to it. It was so good, I made my whole family watch it eventhough they hated war films. In the history of my television viewing, I have never seen anything like this. This was one great 10 hour story. It would be much better if Hanks and Speilberg again produce band of brothers part 2.

Review: Except for the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers has all war movies beat hands down. The greatest hero's of the 20th century fought and died in this war so that you and I can live in this free world of ours. Band of Brothers while only a small portion of WWII depicts war at its worst and best.

Review: "Band of Brothers" picks up the realistic feel of war from "Saving Private Ryan" and adds to that the realistic emotions of war. While "Private Ryan" degenerates into a Western-style shootout and klutzy flag-waver, "Band of Brothers" digs into character psychology and emerges a stronger, better communication of war to those who have never been. Each episode has a strong individual flavor and theme. Each episode shows the subtle shifts in mood in Easy Company. There's the gritty determination of the men during training camp, the numbing fear of the landing and fighting in Normandy. There's disgust and a blow to the morale of the men after the debacle of Operation Market Garden. Then there's the sheer horror of Bastogne, which no man emerges from without psychological damage, and they gripe and shirk duty. And then the war grinds to an end. During the course of their - and our - journey, the series examines leadership, loyalty, courage, horror, loss, and camaraderie. It's amazing how the episodes maintain tension even as the violence and action diminishes over the course of the series. "Private Ryan" moved in the opposite direction, and gave its audience an action-packed, yet disappointing ending. It's as if while making "Band of Brothers" there was the realization that it is the men that matter, and not the battles. But do remember that this is not a documentary. It's a fictionalized account of actual events, at least twice removed. And even though it gets us close to what it must have been like, there's no knowing unless you were there.
