Summary: Beautiful imagery--but flawed film
Review: "Yellow Fountain" is the story of a young Eurasian girl, Lola (Silvia Abascal), whose parents are murdered. Lola trails the killers and soon uncovers a rather nasty Chinese Triad who operate all sorts of criminal businesses in Spain. Along the way, she befriends Sergio (Eduardo Noriega), a lonely young man who dotes on his Canary, obsesses about the Triad, but would rather not get involved in anything violent or sexual.

Abascal's and Noriega's acting was superb--no argument there. Abascal was very believable as the determined, unshakeable Lola, and Noriega did a good job of playing the shy Sergio. However, the film was, for me at least, flawed. There are some unanswered questions regarding the parents' murder. I had the impression at the beginning of the film that the murder occured when Lola was small, but then there were references to the killer that were really confusing--what was the boyfriend's involvement? My second objection is in the downward gravitational spiral of the last part of the film when it started to resemble an American gangster film, and that is rather unfortunate.

Summary: foreign gem
Review: I was totally engrossed by this movie from beginning to end. Time flew by with no distractions. This is the reason I buy foreign films sight unseen. You can discover gems like this. Silvia Abascal and Eduardo Noriega played beleviable and lovable characters that encounter many twists and turns in this engrossing thriller. It really has a gut-wrenching ending.I just wish there was more to the DVD besides the movie and chapters. Oh well thats why we have the internet. I loved this movie.

Summary: Terrific film
Review: This is a low key thriller with an emphasis on plot and character development. The story and characters go in unexpected directions, with a heart wrenching conclusion. I'm glad I discovered this film, although I wish I could have seen it theatrically.

Summary: Don't be misled by the names in the cast
Review: Though the cast gathered for this thriller is really good (Eduardo Noriega and Silvia Abascal in the leading roles), the result is not as promising as one would expect. The story is a bit too slow, Eduardo Noriega's role is not very attractive, and the darkness dominating most of the action becomes annoying as the movie develops. I wouldn't recommend it.
