Summary: Sophisticated Drawing Room Fare
Review: This is not one of Marilyn Monroe's most entertaining pictures; it's not fast-moving and it's not flashy, nor does it contain any extravagant musical production numbers, but it does boast a fine, subtle performance from the actress. During the 1911 coronation of King George V, an American showgirl in England (Monroe) matches wits with the Prince Regent of Carpathia (Laurence Olivier) in what is a charming drawing room comedy. Monroe gives a delightful, sweet, comedic performance against Olivier's austere, gruff prince. The two fall in love throughout the course of the film while at the same time Monroe helps mend the relationship between Olivier and his son (Jeremy Spenser), the future king of Carpathia. Dame Sybil Thorndike also appears in the film as the Queen Dowager and steals every scene she's in! She's an absolute delight. This is also a beautiful film to watch and was stunningly photographed by renowned cinematographer Jack Cardiff. Also be advised that the then modern appearance of the two stars on the cover of the DVD do not reflect how they appear in the movie; this is a period picture that takes place during 1911 and all of the performers are appropriately costumed.

Summary: Not the best of films...
Review: This is not the best of films, it's only highlights is the wonderful ensemble of British actors. The Likes of Richard Wattis and Sybil Thorndike grace the screen.
Being completely biased i concurred that Laurence Olivier was the best thing in itbut this was wishful thinking, his performance was wooden, but we must exscuse him as Marilyn Monroe was driving him crazy all through filming(read Prince the showgirl and meby Colin Clark an aspiring director who worked on the set as LO's assistant)

Monroe despite her tardiness does fair much better than poor old Larry who tried his hardest, by lighting up the screen with her smile (and that damn fake hair(it's a wig!!!))
She starts singing(quite obviously not her voice)and it's so cringe worthy that i had to hide my head under a pillow and stuff my fist in my hand.
Buy it for the hell of it, i'm sure Amazon will be grateful for your cash.

Monroe fans will enjoy it and Olivier fans will just enjoy ogling him (no from personal experiance^*%$%£^%*^&)

Summary: Sophisticated Entertainment
Review: This is one of the best films M. Monroe ever appeared in. Here she got the chance to prove that she was not only the blonde sex-bomb, but a real actress. She holds up remarkably well against Sir Laurence Olivier, who is - as usual - gorgeous. Sir Laurence on the other hand plays that Carpathian ruler with a charm that makes forget everything one knows about the Balkans ... However, it is a pity that the movie is not available on DVD, esp. since the quality of the tape is not the best.

Summary: MARILYN IS BEAUTIFUL!!!
Review: This isn't the best of her movies, but Marilyn is great to look at and she is very talented in this love story. Olivier, who i love, is also very good in this slow moving romance. worth a look just to watch marilyn's beauty...

Summary: THE PRINCE AND THE SHOWGIRL
Review: This may not be Monroe's finest film, at times, a little slow moving, but, one must agree that it was one of her most memorable performances, with the inclusion of "Bus Stop". Quite frankly, she was just beautiful. I mean, just seeing her on the screen, portraying "Elsie Marina", who plays in the musical "The Coconut Girl" is just fascinating. I found that she transformed herself from her famous portrayal as the "Girl", in "The Seven Year Itch" - to "Cherie" the Chanteuse, in "Bus Stop" - to "Elsie Marina" - in the "Prince and the Showgirl". It was a kind of "metamorphosis" transformation from the beautiful "pin-up" type girl, to the more serious as well as comedic actress. Her beauty has matured to "perfection". "The Prince and the Showgirl", with "Bus Stop" and "Some Like It Hot", should be in every Marilyn Monroe afficionado's collection.

Summary: MARILYN IS BRILLIANT.
Review: This Movie seems a bit dated and slow at times but curiously enough does get better with repeated viewing.
There is very little chemistry here between Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe and it certainly isn't her Fault.
Besides being at once beautiful, funny and touching,Marilyn also delivers a brilliant Performance. It's hard to take your Eyes of her when ever she appears on the Screen, no matter who else might be in the same Shot.
The only thing i find really annoying in this Film is the drawn-out Church Scene with the awful Music.
This is a must have for any Marilyn Fan, of course, but anybody that enjoys romantic Comedies will also like this Film.

Summary: Not bad, Miss Monroe!
Review: When i first saw this movie, i had no idea who Laurence Olivier was. Boy, was i missing out. This isn't his best work(not by a long shot) but it is very entertaining, and Marilyn is suprisingly good. I give it 4 stars because the ending was bad.
