Summary: FANTASY
Review: This film is an obvious result of the greek and armenian lobbies in the US. It is simply an anti-propaganda tool against a nation. The political purpose has been achieved. The introduction of all the Turks as monsters have created the mood effects for those who believe or lpretend to believe such a thing is possible, however for those who know the reality, it simply becomes a propaganda fantasy. A film in my opinion should rather have a priority in artistic matters.

Summary: DEAR ALAN PARKER AND OLIVER STONE,
Review: I have no comment for all the people who think this movie is great or some mere 'exagerration'. It seems as if they do not even know what the word "ORIENTALISM" means.

However, in case one day, hopefully, Mr.Parker and Mr.Stone care to peruse these pages; I would like to ask them, very sincerely: HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF AN ANTI-SEMITIC FILM BECAME SO FAMOUS?? AND IF YOU DO HAPPEN TO HAVE EVEN THE VAGUEST NOTION OF WHAT ANTI-SEMITISM IS, AND HOW IT WORKS, HOW ARE WE TO BELIEVE THAT YOU COULD NOT HAVE KNOWN, OR HAD ANY NOTION OF, THE EFFECTS OF A FILM LIKE THIS??

Summary: Awesome, very realistic, truthful
Review: I have seen this move about 6 times, and it always leaves me thinking for several hours. As a film maker, I understand the need to avoid political troubles by pointing fingers directly, so dramatization becomes more of a tool to vividly depict the true beneath. Although I understand some of the reviews who, somehow, felt offended by "Hollywood" style of presenting the information, it is important to remain impartial. No body likes other people to judge our country, our customs, our problems, nonetheless, they do not become any less embarrassing. The film depicts real aspects of a Turkey prision. There is no sense of mercy simply because criminals are not judged by the prison staff but rather the actual judges. The guards just have to "live" with the traditional barbarian customs because that is the way it has always been. Picture and music adds a brillant element of remorse, nostalgy and hopelessness in all the appropriate moments. I think this is one of the best films I have seen.

Summary: dont wacth unless you want to hate the turkish people!!!!
Review: ever seen Turkey? ever been there? well i have seen Turkey and i live in usa. and i have never ever seen such an ugly and hatefull criticism of a country ever. i do not believe that the director is a bad one actually i like other productions of his but i am sure that he has not been to Turkey for this production of afterwards. just think we switch the roles some turkish director shoots a movie about usa where he has never been and never seen but heard of from a radical russian or lets say radical arab who hates usa. you think this movie would reflect the real thing. many people find this movie a master piece and rate it as one of the classics well i am sure those people know nothing about turkey too. it is a one time wacthing movie unless you want to go out and hate some turks for what they are not responsible for.

Summary: An ordinary movie
Review: It is funny how a citizen of a country which strongly supported the terrorist groups against Turkey for years can come up without being ashamed and criticize it by giving an exaggerated story as a reference!

Summary: Awsome!
Review: This is one of the most awsome films ever. When finished the viewer is emotionally drained but excited because the hero finally got away. It is horrible even to think what people go through in the notorious Turkish jails even today - last December 2000, 30 prisoners chose to set themselves alight rather than go on. I can understand why. Excellent film with great acting and fascinating plot. No wonder it has collected so many awards. A must for all.

Summary: It shouldn't be offensive
Review: The Turks are great people in general, I have lived in Istanbul for four years, and I have loved every minute of it. But people have to understand that what happens in a prison is not the same as what happens in reality. This is a movie about a Turkish Prison, not about Turkey in general. There have been many movies about American prisons, yet these movies are not anti-american in any way, and it is the same with this movie. One more thing, people are saying in there reviews that there is a serious lack of human rights in Turkey; this is not true. It is the Kurdish terrorists that WERE being fought against, and anyone who sided with them. Americans can't really criticize anyone about doing this because many Native American were brutally massacred just for standing up to the Federal government. Just as a note, the fighting is basically over. Abdullah Ocalan was captured in Kenya, and the terrorism has basically stopped.

Summary: Midnight Express and Midnight TV
Review: I watched the film on Tv 5 years ago and it was such an incredible night! After watching the film, as a Turk, I was there facing one of the most notorious films and i was just smiling, because it was just a film and nothing else. It is true..Turkey is not that democratic a country and we stil have problems. It is not easy to progress. There are lots of obstacles to get over. But it is also true that films just deviate from the truth..so the film is just an adaptation of the truth. And at that time, it was Oliver Stone's and Alan Parker's adaptation and comment. I don't think they have never cared about Turkey and its democracy. I don't even think they know where Turkey is. That's why it is very understandable. I don't really see the point what's so wonderful about the film. Prisons are bad places and nobody can claim the reverse. Turkish prisons are bad places just like american, greek, armenian, russian prisons. You turn the tv on and watch israelis kill palestinians, watch the cops beat black men in South africa, watch the racist people in america. It is not fiction. It is real. So if anyone claims this film represents the truth, I recommend them watch tv and see the real Midnight express. Better than Alan Parker's adaptation!

Summary: ridiculous
Review: i cannot even get to considering how good the movie is, as far as it's quality is concerned; because i just cannot get over the fact that i was extremely deeply offended by it. being turkish, i simply cannot accept the fact that this movie is around, "free" for people to view. i cannot think of a better way of creating a horrible impression of turkey in the minds of those who do not know much about the place.
