Summary: Touching Movie
Review: If you have read the book then you won't be disappointed with this movie. This movie is a very touching movie about a boy who struggles with life. No matter what he does, he is always losing his loved ones. As he gets older he becomes an exceptionally good boxer and starts to take it seriously. Along with that, P.K. (the main character) meets up with a German girl named Maria who he falls in love with.

The whole movie basically focuses on racism back in the old days in South Africa. There are some scenes which may disturb people and shows how the blacks were torchered. It's a touching and sad movie and really gets you thinking. It's a shame that the world doesn't get along, it probably never will.

Summary: Beautiful Work
Review: As someone who has lived and worked in Southern Africa, I found the film fascinating in ever sense. Beautiful cinematography, a stunning soundtrack and strong acting. Depending on your personality, the film is either powerful or overtly sentimental - one thing that the film is not, is racist which I have read in some reviews.

Do yourself a favour and pick up this DVD. Decide for yourself. But you won't be disappointed.

Summary: Beautiful cinematography, but ...
Review: Well, I've purchased this DVD because I remembered the film, and I love the cinematography (having been to South Africa). The performances are also very good, most notably Morgan Freeman, who gives perhaps the best performance of his career. These are the reasons I have purchased this film for my sparse collection. However, I find the premise to be offensive. Like many western films shot in the third world (a lesser film called "The City of Joy" with Patrick Swayze comes first to mind), there is an arrogance that pervades. The white boy ends up saving the "poor Africans" who haven't had the courage to stand up against their oppressors. He serves as a savior figure, and so, the racist nature of the film is largely masked by the love and devotion given by the savior figure. In this respect, the film is horrendously flawed like many others that seem to say (even if they don't mean to) that a white person is needed to show the way. Of course, that's hogwash and perhaps one of the worst forms of racism because it's masked in what appears to be love and the desire to assist. Bear this in mind when making a decision whether or not to purchase.

Summary: the best movie i have ever saw
Review: ok, i don't exactly know how to start out but this movie was the best movie ever and it really makes you think about how you can change the world to. P.K. was a really great character and always held his own even when he was losing someone or being treated badly. When I watched this movie in my Geography class my eyes never came off of the television and I don't think that none of the other kids eyes did either. When we watched movies in class I was never afraid to say what was on my mind about what was happening. So when we first started watching I felt really bad for him he was being hung, pee on him whatever the other boys thought was necessary. When they told him his mother died that was sad you could just see the look in his eye. Well when he go older about 13 he was a good boxer and was not very cute. But when they showed him being about 17 or 18 my heart just melted and I did not want him to like Maria, I just did not think that is was fair that he could have her and she was not even that pretty. Still today a month and a half .after watching the video I am still in love with the man who played P.K. he had a lot of tragedy in his life. ...I really hope you like what I have said about this movie and I am in the 9th grade. If I could really rate this movie I would give 100 stars. Thasnk you for taking your time to rtead what I had to say.

p.s. I think that the boy who played P.K. had a lot of heart.

Summary: MOST EXCELLENT DOESNT FULLY DISCRIBE!!
Review: This movie is a favorite choice of mine. I don't know if this movie received any awards - but it sure received high ratings from me. It must of taken me months before I actually rented it, I had been told it was a very good feature but a movie about a young boxer didn't interest me in any way- boy was I wrong!!

Summary: Read the Book
Review: I read the book, the original 500+ pages, before I saw the movie. If there are parts of the movie that you can't figure out, like the waterfall, you need to read the book. It's a great story and there is more to it than boxing. There is action, adventure, love, racial discord, courage, love of learning, sadness and joy. I would suggest that anyone, teen or adult, give the book a try. Sorry, the movie doesn't even come close.

Summary: Incredible Story
Review: The power of on is an wonderful story of courage and strenght. The movie stays true to the book and is a delightful break from the bleekness of the real world. I person really can make a difference to some.

Summary: TRAVESTY!
Review: This is a bastardization of a great book. When I first saw this movie, I could hardly believe what they'd done to it. The characters of Hoppie Groenewald and Solly Goldman were either cut completely or twisted. The drama of Barberton was erased. And who is Maria? Embellishing a character for a movie is one thing, but pulling one out of thin air is outrageous. For anyone who has seen the movie but not read the book, please do so so you can truly experience the Power of One as written by Bryce Courtenay, rather than Hollywood.

Summary: A wonderful movie!
Review: Somewhere between the startling storyline, the spellbinding acting and the blend of love, action and friendship, you realize you're watching a truly wonderous movie.

Before I begin I'd just like to warn you that, while the begining is somewhat groutesque to such an extent that you feel notious, the viewer should not get discoureged, for what follows these scenes of nausea is a truly great movie.

That said, the plot of the Power of One centers around the life of a boy, prophocized to unite the tribes, and through this beutifully directed and wonderfully acted story the boy learns that the color of the skin is not what matters.

One of the great movies that seems to have been forgotten amounst its peers. A worthy buy!

Summary: Truth and beauty in the Power of One
Review: I grew up in Zambia, Southern Africa and so perhaps I love this movie partly because of my background, but I think that this movie is excellent beyond that.

This movie shows some of the truest beauty of Southern Africa, the stunningly beautiful scenes of PK and Doc canoeing on the river with elephants bathing nearby. The score only adds to the movie with some of the most breathtakingly beautiful African music I have heard in a long time. Each time I hear it, it takes me back... I really think that it accurately captures the feeling of Africa.

The movie may not follow the book, but that is not the point. So the movie is different from the book, no problem. The movie is aiming at showing racism for the ugly beast that it is and showing how just one person can really make a difference. Being different from the book is not a bad thing in this case, as the movie is powerful nonetheless.

This is one of my favorite movies and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
