Summary: Expected more...
Review: Although Hugh Grant was lovely (and the guy who played his roommate was funny!) Julia Roberts seemed to be reading off of cue cards. I just thought it would be a lot better...

Summary: Best Romantic Comedy of 1999
Review: This movie is a "must see" for romantic comedy buffs. This is not only the best romantic comedy of 1999, it is one of the best movies of the year. I highly recommed seeing this film. I watched it 3 times in the theaters.

Summary: Typical Love Story
Review: This was a good movie but sort of your run of the mill love stories nothing reaches out and grabs you to make it any different from other love stories all in all it was a good movie.

Summary: Surprisingly GOOD!
Review: I saw Notting Hill on a plane, not the best way to experience a movie. However, I was surprised, it grabbed my attention and I found it a very pleasing, entertaining film, which is unusual praise from me for a romantic comedy. As soon as it was released on DVD I bought it, and everyone that has come to see it has agreed it was a great movie.

Summary: Great Story, Classic Movie
Review: In the realms of the great classics such as Casablanca, The Philadelphia Story, and even the more recent Sleepless in Seattle, this movie should be one to watch for years to come. How much better could the story be? With a normal, "basic" gentleman, the likes of which you don't see anymore in films, and with a bigger than life "Sleeping Beauty" and "just a girl" all rolled into one person, Notting Hill takes you through the puppy dog love of a brand new relationship to the life-long commitment of mature love. The sense of a fairy tale story mixed with every day life of "average" people creates a story not seen very often, but very much enjoyable.

Summary: Nowhere near the level of 4 Weddings and a Funeral
Review: There was a lot of hype before this movie came out about how it reunited Hugh Grant with the creative talents behind Four Weddings and a Funeral. Given that, I was really disappointed by this film. First, having Julia Roberts essentially play herself while Hugh Grant plays a "nobody" was weird; that scene at the end where they're supposed to be at one of her movie premieres just looks like they'd shown up for the gala opening of this movie! The pace of the film is deadly slow and, contrary to other reviews I've seen, I just don't see any chemistry whatsoever between Hugh and Julia. They looked like they'd be more comfortable discussing the size of their cut of the movie's gross than playing love scenes. Compare their scenes with those of Hugh and Andie Macdowell in Four Weddings and you'll see what I mean. The supporting cast of fine actors is reduced to stupid, self-pitying cameo scenes, except for Rhys Infans. Just not much of a movie, romantic or otherwise. Only gets two stars from me for the all-around level of competence of most of the cast.

Summary: My new favorite movie
Review: I loved this movie for many reasons. I loved Hugh Grant's friends and how supportive and real they were. The dinner scene with the music is the best in the whole movie but when Spike (after being a fool the entire movie and unintentionally ruining Hugh and Julia's relationship) gets out of the car and stops traffic still makes me smile. I loved this movie because it is the woman (not the man) who messes up in the relationship and that is nice to see for a change. I loved the music and the soundtrack is even better. The scene where Hugh is walking down the street is brillant. I love this movie!

Summary: Loved it on the silver screen and loving it on DVD
Review: This is the best romanic comedy in 1999, in my opinion. It's a story about an actress (Anna Scott played by Julia Roberts) at the height of her career finding the ordinary man (William Thacker played by Hugh Grant) in Notting Hill (an actual place in the UK) and falling in love with him. The unlikely story of travel bookstore owner getting involved with a mega-star actress is a fantasy but then it's a movie... and their story is fun to watch. Their quirky romance struggles a bit while they try to find a common ground for the couple from opposite ends of the spectrum- and the movie tries to convey that even famous actresses have normal needs, too. Like love and the need to belong in the world. The secondary characters like Spike, Will's flatmate, Will's friends and sister just about steal the scenes. This movie is sweet, fun, poignant and a great happy ending. In the press conference scene at the end, when William and Anna stare at each other across the room, you can feel the love and hapiness. And the bench scene in the park is just about the sweetest ending. I've seen this movie several times and will see it many times more. ( Hey, even my guy friends liked it. )

Review: This has become one of my favorite movies of all time! I could watch it over and over.(and I probably will) If you like romance, you will LOVE this movie.

Summary: I hated it!
Review: If you took all of the dirty jokes out of this stupid movie it would be ten minutes long. This is a disgusting, and lame movie. Who would run into a mega-movie star and spill orange juice all over her and then say "it was surreal". There was probably four funny parts that I remember and the rest was sick (underline the word "sick" please). Hugh Grant is a drip, and Julia Roberts has a lot of talent which was completely wasted. I would have minused it 10, but the computer wouldn't let me!
