Rating: Summary: AN EXQUISITE DELIGHT Review: Can Tim Burton be more creative and bright than this!, he's the man!...this movie really gets the melancoly of xmas, the portrait of the king of Halloween tryin' to steal xmas, and make it scary it's just hilarious, and the movie art becomes a masterpiece, this movie it's a most have for anyone with a heart for fantasy movies or a tim burton's fan. *****FIVE STARS, great story, great animation, instant classic.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: My review might be biased because I love Tim Burton's work. It's a mixture between bizzare and beautiful. Your taken into this strange and unhappy world. The characters suck you in. I was able to watch this movie with my friends or with my little brothers and sisters. It's amazing!
Rating: Summary: The best movie ever Review: This is why DVD was invented...to give viewers a closer look at the film and how it was made. This DVD has everything a TNBC fan and aspiring animator could dream of, from character development sketches to pre-production animation tests. The film-to-storyboard comparison alone is worth it even if it is only for a small section of the film. It is a friendly reminder of how much planning goes into making an animated film, before any frames are even recorded. Just a script and lots and lots of drawings. The other bonus materials highlight the "tweaking" that occured during production, really bringing you in to the artists' decision-making process. Fun fact: Jack Skellington's legs are so thin that early animation tests revealed "strobing" problems in the film. The deleted scenes are fascinating, and reveal unknown plot twists (spoiler alert: Oogie Boogie = the evil scientist in disguise). The inclusion of Tim Burton's early short films "Vincent" and "Frankenweenie" is the icing on the cake, and its clear upon seeing them that Mr. Burton had been nurturing the character and style of "Nighmare" long before it was made (look for Jack and Sally look-alikes in "Vincent"'s nightmare sequence) . Besides all these wonderful bonus features, the movie is a classic must-see.
Rating: Summary: Eeeeexcellent... Review: Perfect film to watch with family and friends for Halloween AND Christmas! Or in fact, any day of the year. Really, it's quite good (OK, it's REALLY great). Very dark in its design but it also contains a very uplifting tale and I think anyone of any age can enjoy (though perhaps not the wee ankle biters--the ghouls might scare them).
The stop-motion animation in NIGHTMARE is quite amazing and a treat for the eyes. Honestly, it's quite extraordinary what the animators and director did with both character design/movement and camera-panning. The songs by Danny Elfman are... wow. Singable, catchy, some a bit melancholy, others just pure fun. Never, ever boring. So what are you wasting your time for with reading this review? At least go out and rent this masterpiece. :)
Rating: Summary: Like Rudolph is to Christmas, Nightmare is to Halloween Review: Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas is imaginative and sweet. Not too frightening so that children under 5 will not be able to enjoy this movie, but exciting enough to keep the attention of all ages. The cgi artists did an excellent job creating the entire style and look to the story. It is like watching a storybook come alive in 3D. A real treat for this Halloween piece is the music and voice of Danny Elfman as the well-intentioned, but innocent Jack. Enjoy this film anytime you want a treat and add it to your collection of children's films like James and the Giant Peach, Toy Story, and A Bug's Life.
Rating: Summary: A stop motion animated classic, the DVD's great too. Review:
Our story is in Halloweentown, a town of scary things where Jack Skelengton ( voiced by Chris Sarandon) is the pumpkin king and is tired of the same thing year after year of being crowed by pleasing fans. He wonders through the woods to discover a place full of doors to other holiday worlds, he stumbles onto Christmas town where it gives him inspiration in new ideas. He gets the entire town to do his bidding except for Sally ( voiced by Catherine O'Hara) whom has a feeling about Jack's plan for Christmas and Jack is to kidnap Santa so he can take his hat, unfortunately for Jack being Santa Claus he doesn't know that the toys he created are deadly for the children as he must find the real Santa to fix Christmas.
A dark and dazzling animated fairy tale classic that has became a beloved cult icon movie for years since it's release, Tim Burton ( who'd produced) with Henry Sellick delivers a good and original story, imaginative characters, and memorable images that will stick to your head.
The DVD special edition is definitely worth the investment, it's got great picture & sound, great extras such as Still galleries, Trailers, Deleted Scenes, Storyboard-and-film comparision, two Tim Burton early shorts and cool audio commentary by the director.
Highly recommended DVD to animation collectors!
Rating: Summary: THE MOST ORIGINAL CHRISTMAS TALE SINCE THE GRINCH! Review: Tim Burton's THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is a masterpiece. There's simply no other way to describe it. The story, the music and the animation combine to present probably the most original and unique Christmas tale since the original animated HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS.
The movie nicely showcases the vocal talents of Chris Sarandon (THE PRINCESS BRIDE), Catherine O'Hara (HOME ALONE I and II) and, of course Danny Elfman. Elfman's score for the movie is also masterful.
THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is a terrific tie that connects the fall seasons, from Halloween to Christmas and promises to be a holiday standard for decades to come. You will also enjoy the many special features, including FRANKENWEENIE and VINCENT, two Tim Burton shorts, that are included on this DVD.
THE HORSEMAN
Rating: Summary: Great animation movie (Watch also the Making of...) Review: I love this film. Great animation, great story and great music as well. We have to bear in mind that this masterwork of animation is previous to Pixar's computer animation films. I think is important to watch also the making of this movie that the same DVD brings in this special edition. By watching the behind scenes of this film you appreciate it much better. By the way my little 5-years old nephew loves this film too so it fits to any age.
