Rating: Summary: Great coverage of the Apollo 15 Moon landing Review: Spacecraft films should be congratulated for preserving the legacy of the Apollo Moon landings and NASA history. This two DVD set shows the highlights of the Apollo 15 Moon launch trip and landings. A summary of some of the features follows- Disc one features-LRV training,rollout,pre-launch,suit-up and transfer to pad, launch, transposition and docking, landing at Hadley Rille, landing site flyover:computer generated flyover of the Apollo 15 landing site showing major features and EVA routes,16mm Lunar surface film, entry splashdown and recovery, statements from crew on carrier deck. The computer flyover is a spectacular recreation of the three trips and shows the viewer exactly where the rover went. Disc two features Stand up EVA:Panoramas and photography taken during SEVA plus long programs on the three EVA's(hours of it).
EVA 1-bringing down the rover, driving off,TV on rover,on to St George,ALSEP,drilling, drilling trouble. EVA 2-Station 6,Genesis rock,ALSEP,the flag. EVA 3-loading the rover,Hadley Rille, sampling, back to the rover, return to Lunar module(including hammer and feather). Lunar liftoff and trans-Earth EVA. There are multi-angle views of things like the launch(8 launch views on one screen)and other features. This two DVD set covers many hours of the Apollo 15 mission and silences any of the paranoid naysayers and conspiracy theorists that dispute the moon landings with some spectacular footage from the live camera on the Lunar rover, which travels for miles along the Lunar terrain showing craters and awesome mountain ranges. During the three trips, the astronauts get off their rover and walk hundreds of yards into the distance, floating along in the one sixth Lunar gravity. The rovers camera was remote controlled from Earth and moves around and zooms in on different features. There is one shot from the rover of an astronaut a hundred yards away with the Lunar module in the distance and the mountain ranges far behind it. Unless the naysayers can find a stage that is 20 miles wide,I would say this DVD blows them out of the water. But forgetting them, this DVD set is a very well presented history of the Apollo 15 Moon landings and the colour TV camera used gives a picture that is a lot more clear than in the previous missions. It also has a four page booklet listing all the details, some of which I haven't listed as there are a lot. Well worth having.
