Review: Growing up in Pittsburgh, I always heard stories about the flood, but didn't know anything about it. This movie puts you there and really opens your eyes to the level of destruction that took place. Dreyfuss did a great job as the narrator. his voice holds you to the story. The two best parts of the film are the historic photos and the sound. The photos are interspersed throughout the film and the narration brings them to life and takes the viewer back to Johnstown. The sound is amazing. A great film to watch with the surround sound turned up. Bussler did such a nice job on the sound you will feel like you are about to get crushed by water. I would recommend this to anybody who enjoys historic documentaries with some modern touches added in.

Summary: Fascinating Story, Excellent DVD!
Review: Having little knowledge of the history of the Johnstown Flood, I was not sure what to expect from this DVD. I loved it! Richard Dreyfuss' narration fit perfectly with the story. Also, the director made a wise choice to shoot in black and white. It really gave a period feel to the film. The story is fascinating and well researched. I highly recommend this DVD.

Review: I grew up in Johnstown. I have seen the films at both of the Flood Museums. The film at the downtown museum (the former Carnegie Free Library) is the Guggenheim film that won the academy award. It is an excellent film that far outstrips the one here reviewed. However, the film presented at the damsite is even superior to the Guggenheim film. Unfortunately, it can only be seen at the museum. I found the film narrated by Richard Dreyfuss to be a very "watery" story with some awful cinematography and effects. The dramatizations were terrible: actors with modern accents and mannerisms in Victorian costumes...! I thought this was a very shallow representation of a terrible disaster.

Summary: INTENSE!
Review: I wanted to let everyone know that I am from around the Johnstown, PA area and I went and actually saw this at the J-town Flood Museum. It is intense! Especially when you see it in a movie theater setting. I have relatives who experienced the other J-town floods after this one, but nothing could compare to going to the museum overlooking the dam and seeing the lifelike things there!!! I can't wait to have this for my "home" collection!!

Review: Johnstown Flood is one of the best documentaries I've ever watched. I learned a lot about an event that I really never learned about in school. And Richard Dreyfuss did an excellent job narrating. I highly recommend this informative and emotional DVD.

Review: Not a bad documentary. Much like what you would see on TV for older events with no film. First time I ever recall hearing Richard Dreyfuss do a documentary. He sounds like a natural and should do more narrating. I give it 2.5 stars.
