Summary: History people can relate to . . .
Review: I love this video because it brings alive historical events by showing my students that those who saved the world from tyranny looked a lot like them. Historical documentories are usually in Black and White so that the people look like relics from history. Color changes everything. I think this is a rather good collection of clips that tells a great story. It does not gloss over racism and bigotry that existed in America and the in the Military, it shows us triumph in spite of those things.
The fact that Martin Sheen narrates enhances the experience for me rather than detracts. He is a good actor, who knows how to tell a good story. This is America, after all, and one is entitled to make a living regardless of his or her politics. Isn't that what WWII was about?
This film gives an interesting and sometimes painful view of our country's greatest effort--the defeat of Facism. It is well worth the time it takes to watch, no matter who narrates.

Summary: Heartbreaking--but in spectacular color.
Review: Instead of the usual grainy, scratched black and white this is the great war in Technicolor--and it is powerful stuff. Watch this and you will know how America got to be the greatest country in the world. (Hint: it has nothing to do with bible-thumping politicians, oil, or publicity stunts like the Iraq war).I strongly recommend this to students as it covers a lot of stuff that tends to get swept under the rug--like Henry Ford's campaign of support for Hitler (as if there weren't enough reasons to not buy a Ford). Also the unbelievable stupidity of "hero" Charles Lindburgh. And the way courageous black soldiers were discriminated against in the country they fought for. If you don't know what I'm referring to, all the more reason to check out this video. Last but not least there are some gorgeous color scenes of day to day life at home, the New York skyline, San Francisco and the NY World's Fair of 1939.

Review: It is really a mixed experience to watch my favorite subject 'WWII' narrated by an ultra leftist 'Martin Sheen.' I would suggest 'WWII in color: the lost archives' instead.

Summary: Martin Sheen? PLEASE!!
Review: Martin Sheen narrating a military documentary? That's like saying Apocalypse Now was an accurate portrayal of the Vietnam War (Vietnam; the sole template liberals use when discussing any military action). My father is a veteran on WW2, and I will not insult him by purchasing a product narrated by make believe president Martin Sheen.

Summary: Not unique, not the best
Review: There are several other WWII DVDs in color available (and much better), that have been available for years here on Amazon and other distributors. Apparently one of the other "viewers" thought this particular feature in 'fabulous Technicolor' was a groundbreaking, revolutionary breakthrough for WWII film clips. Not so. The fact that make-believe president Martin Sheen, known for his anti-American views, narrates this PBS special, is sufficient reason to think twice before investing money into it.

Summary: One Of The Best I've Seen!
Review: This show is one the best war documentary i've ever seen. Full of action, horror and many more. I would recommend this to anyone who like watching war documentry like me. Worth every single cent you pay for.
