Summary: Everything you need to know
Review: This DVD set has everything that you need if you want to become a club dj. This is not a hip-hop scratchfest, but instead it covers all the ins and outs from getting your turntables out of the box and setting up through mixing on three turntables and a cd player.I've seen other so-called "how-to-DJ" videos before and they're usually a low-quality copy. This one was nice and clean and easy to understand. In addition, the interviews with the 40 or so DJs who are actually out there playing at clubs every weekend, sometimes to 40,000+ people, are fantastic. If you want to be a DJ, pick this up.

Summary: First of its kind...
Review: When I heard that Barclay was undertaking this project, while supportive, I thought it might just be like a number of other videos on the dance music scene (e.g. footage of music, DJ's and clubbers/ravers). However, upon seeing the rough cuts, I was pleasantly surprised and excited to see that this project was cut from a different cloth. Chunky interviews with a wide spread of DJ's provides insightful views into their approaches to mixing and DJ'ing in their own words. Previous to "Intellect," your best bet to hear from this level of talent was probably in the form of an article in Mixmag. Aside from the interviews/documentary, there's a second DVD that's a tutorial on how to actually mix. This part's more for a beginnner to mid-level person (from setting up the gear to mixing with 3 turntables), but watching Nigel Richards' special brand of droppin' knowlege will be entertaining for all. Also, the stuff on the "business" side of DJ'ing (e.g. promoting, etc.) is probably useful 411 for the more serious headz out there (not me thx). All of this for under 30 bones? 'nuff said. If you're into club/dance culture, DJ's, and mixing - this is the best thing out there right now. Check it!
