Summary: Fascinating, but anything BUT groundbreaking...
Review: The completely naive idea that this campaign was some kind of new groundbreaking approach to presidential campaigning, or that Carville and Stephanopolis re-wrote the book on such campaigns is sadly nothing more than left wing revisionist thinking being pasted across America's forehead once again. The fact that a decade earlier Michael Deaver orchestrated an even greater victory against Jimmy Carter and then again against Walter Mondale is the timeless proof that a successful and seemingly steamroller campaign strategy is nothing new to American Politics. Moreover it must be noted that the Carville/Stephanopolis duo were not the do-all/end-all vehicle that handed Mr. and Mrs. Clinton the Presidency. What this colorful documentary fails to note is that it was neither Clinton nor his campaigners that defeated George Bush in 1992. Three is indeed a crowd.

Summary: Documentary Wins in a Landslide
Review: The War Room is a documentary of the 1992 Clinton Presidential Campaign, beginning with the New Hampshire primary and ending on election night. Filmmakers D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus have full access to all of the players, including Governor Clinton himself. But this film focuses very little on Clinton, spending the most time with James Carville, whose immense energy level propells this film from beginning to end. Other players are featured as well, including George Stepahopoulos, Paul Begala, Mary Matalin, and DeeDee Myers, among others.

This is a great documentary, and a must for students of political and election strategy. It shows how talented pros deal with polls, the press, schedules, scandals, and downtime. And it contains some golden moments, including a hilarious argument about posters at the convention, a tongue-in-cheek concession speech, and a speech by Carville to volunteers once the election was won. All told, The War Room is a pleasure to watch, and will serve as an important snapshot of political electioneering at the end of the 20th century.

Summary: A must-see for those interested in "real politics"!
Review: The War Room is a great behind-the-scenes film for any politics-enthusiast. Regardless of your opinion of the President, you can enjoy this film because of its honest, essentially uncut view of what happens in a campaign. There could be some confusion if you don't understand elements like "primaries" and "spinning", but I reccommend this film whole-heartedly.

Summary: A great glimpse inside the strategy room
Review: The War Room is an excellent documentary that takes the viewer behind the scenes of the Clinton 1992 campaign. This video shows more of the tactics, strategies and means of how the Clinton campaign operated. James Carville and George Stephanopolus truly were masterminds in orchestrating an excellent presidential campaign. This video should be viewed by any political science major, or individual who plans to go into political consulting. Then again, having just about any individual watch the video will educate the viewer about an important component and function of any election process - the campaign.

The War Room - a phrase which is ever so fitting and appropriate for Clinton's campaign operations - represents the concept of strategizing and winning.

It has a superb touch to it, in the respect that it not only shows the process of campaigning, but it also shows the feelings and the "human side" of the individuals involved.

Highly recommended!

Summary: The bible of modern campaign strategy!
Review: This 90 minute documentary/learning tool is an essential tool for anyone with aspirations in the political arena. There is no doubt that this is democratically (small d) slanted material. Please don't let the partisanship skew your approach to this brilliant work. All political parties aside, this is an amazingly alive piece that shows the intangible value of people with common political goals. END

Summary: A look behind the curtain at the political wizards
Review: This celebrated documentary provides a bird's eye view into the inner sanctum of Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign. D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus spent three weeks shot 33 hours of film, which was later combined with news footage to capture the cause-and-effect relationship between what happened inside "The War Room" and the election of the president. The dynamic behind it all is the Fire and Ice duo of chief Clinton strategist James Carville and press secretary George Stephanopoulos. Of course, both titles are gross undercharacterizations of their roles in the campaign. What stands out in watching this documentary is the complete sense that this is what it was really like, which, in the end, is more impressive than the fact that these guys won the election. Here you get to see the infamous Clinton "quick response" strategy at work, where every attack by the opponent is crushed in an immediate barrage of rhetoric. It is also interesting to compare the Carville and Stephanopoulos we see behind closed doors with their more public personas as talking heads. The Jim and Mary traveling road show that keeps Carville on stage might get more of the publicity, but the one who has impressed me the most is Stephanopoulos, whose work on the Sunday morning political roundtable "This Week" has made him the most objective and restrained political analysts on the tube of either party affiliation. "The War Room" shows not only where he paid his dues, but gives him his bone fides as well.

Review: This is a great movie of just how campaigns and elections are handled. Great story of the most talented campaigner of this century, James Carville and how his team managed the campaign. Shows their highs and their tears. Entertaining and informative.
