Summary: 2 1/2 doesn't = 4 hr.
Review: I've read the whole book series, and seen all three versions of the movie and this 2 1/2 hr leaves some important facts out about charecters and the plot. Overall it was alright but it does not come close to the 4 hr.

Summary: Awful!!
Review: I'm feeling like I missed something considering all the positive reviews the other Amazon cutomers wrote. But I have to steal a line from Luke Skywalker to sum up this movie "What a piece of junk!"

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not good not bad
Review: I have not read the book. I own the video. Photography is good but the soundtrack by Toto does make it somehow slow and boring. I own the soundtrack too and it is not a must have. A collection of short tracks which are not good to listen as an entire masterpiece.

Also, David Lynch *director* told Toto he wanted soft and slow music, they did their job. Pop tracks are better than the other orchestra tracks. Toto is a recognized pop group but they are lack of experience in soundtracks.

Since the music is half of the experience, this is half a movie. Dressing and background are excellent. Sean Young performs great as she did in Bladerunner or No Way Out.

If you are a Sci-Fi fan you may get it or not. I don't hate this movie, but I recognized it could be better.

Anyway, I won't take the video to any trade center because it has enough quality to be at home.

Also, it is not good for children or even teens. I saw that movie in 1984 when I still was a teen and it was shocking due to discusting ways of violence. I understand why that movie was not a success. Not a good movie, not a bad one.

Summary: the sh#tiest movie in the history of the universe
Review: i have never fell asleep so fast....

Summary: AWESOME!!!!
Review: Lynch turned an epic novel into an epic film. The special effects are truly amazing. I would say this is one of the 10 best sci-fi flicks of all time.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Read the book, don't watch the movie
Review: This movie did have some redeaming factors, but it isn't really worth the effort of sitting through it. I've heard that you either love this movie, or you hate it, and I think I may be one of the latter. If you really want an enjoyable experiance, read Frank Herbert's book, which is definately more worthwhile than this!

Summary: Outstanding
Review: I have started to read Dune about 6 times and never could get started. However found the video to be one of the best that i have ever seen.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A good portrait of Dune
Review: The movie is a little cheesy, but dark and strange enough to be original. The special effects are well done, and the worms look pretty good, the story is fairly consistent with the book too.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: A brave attempt at an impossible task.
Review: I regard DUNE as the greatest single volume of sci-fi ever written. The sequels are very uneven, and really beside the point; this film covers only the territory covered by the original book.

The film is comprehensible if- and ONLY if- you have read that book. The plot is simply too thick, too rich; there is too much going on at too many different levels for the story to be readily comprehensible without a degree of explaination which would ruin any movie. The universe in which DUNE is set is itself a complex masterpiece of strange customs and byzantine intrigue sufficient to frustrate even the most determined neophyte. I wanted to like this movie, and I am impressed with how close it came to being an adequate retelling of a compelling tale. The casting is nothing short of supurb. But it would take a ten-hour miniseries to do DUNE justice. As it is, somewhere near the film's end things simply fall apart. I found the ending- so compelling in the book- anticlimactic and almost inane in the film. Nice try. No cigar.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Visually stunning experience!
Review: O.K. - the book is better (even if I don't like such comparisons) but Lynch's film is a masterpiece nevertheless. On DVD you can finally see its qualities in widescreen and crystal-clear.
