Rating: Summary: Russ Meyer, made for TV Review: Bad acting, weak plot, bad dialog. If Vixens was an 8, this is a 2. This was Russ dressed up for TV. Not for Russ Meyer fans.. Don't waste your time!
Rating: Summary: This movie is a one of It's kind! Review: This movie is so good, that when it finished I just wanted to watch it all over again... I think that every man on earth including Slobodjan Milosevic should have a copy of it or at least have seen it... about 10 times.... =)
Rating: Summary: And education in the classics - the camp classics. Review: To truly understand Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, the first thing you have to know is that this is the movie in which "this is my happening and it freaks me out!" was uttered as a serious line. It's directed by former 60's porn meastro Russ Meyer, and features more sex drugs and something like rock and roll than you can shake your stick at, if you catch my drift. The plot, while tremdously convoluted, thankfully never manages to be probable. It's silly, it's fun, it's got a surprise climactic ending, and you have to respect Roger Ebert for managing to find a context for a line like "You will drink the black sperm of my vengence!" Although you do wonder how he got a job reviewing movies having written this one.
Rating: Summary: pill freaks, juice freaks, breast freak Review: Boobs galore in this tale of sex, drugs and rock-n-roll. Three girls try to reach it to the top through really bad '60s music. Along the way, temptation leads them astray. Action packed with gun sucking lesbians, transvestites, corrupt lawyers, smoothe talking boxers, nazis, lots of tamborine playing and all sorts of sixties hipsters. The speed of the edits could kill a small child quicker than an airbag. Meet the alluring and poweful "Super Woman". All ends well in a montage of blood, spontaneous healing and marriage.Inspiring Lines:"What about your father's career in the senate?""Before this night is through, you will drink the black sperm of my vengence!""There's pill freaks, there's juice freaks, we're all freaks""I'm a capitalist, baby.""The outcome is inevitable...the golden gladiator will be victorious."This movie is fun to be had by all.
Rating: Summary: Crazy fun good times Review: I first viewed this film when I was in high school. I never appreciated what an interesting film it was until now, as a married mommy and adult (24 years). This movie is definitely for the mature audience, and the pure craziness should appeal to those more open-minded and carefree. The music, the cast, the story, and the scenery all tie together to become a picture of color, of vibrance, of youth, and of tragedy eventually getting better. The cheesiness of the plot only adds to the flavor of the film. The language alone is enough to interest any hipster, and the origin of a Sublime sample should be a boon to those hoarding secrets of their own.
Rating: Summary: One wildly hilarious film Review: BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS is not a sequel to the 1967 flop, VALLEY OF THE DOLLS: it is a outragously funny spoof of hippies and soap operas. Some critics actually took this film seriously not knowing that the whole thing was ment to be stupid. This is not like any other film that "skin-flick" director, Russ Meyer ever made but, of cource, it still stars sexy bimbos with huge tits. Co-written by film critic, Roger Ebert.
Rating: Summary: "Come into my den," said the spider, et cetera Review: "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" is perhaps the best movie ever made. Unlike other campy movies, there are virtually no lulls -- each scene is packed with brilliant one-liners, ludicrious characters (portrayed by equally crazy actors), fun music, and tons of hairspray. While Roger Ebert has claimed that the movie was intended to be satirical and hillarious, its dated-ness adds to the effect, inadvertently creating the funniest and most watchable movie of the entire Russ Meyer catalouge (though other gems of Meyer's include "Supervixens," "Vixen," "Up," and the delightful, "Fater Pussycat! Kill! Kill!"). Dolly Reed's often failed attempt at an American accent only adds to the fun. The reason "BVD" isn't more widley loved: it takes a person with certain sense of humor to enjoy the high level of camp this film offers. If you enjoy being tricked into thinking that a legitimately excellent film is really so bad that it's good, indulge yourself in the debauchery.
Rating: Summary: Please bring this to DVD Review: As well as the original "Valley of the Dolls". These are two camp classics. Don't deny us this privilege. Thanks!
Rating: Summary: One of the Funniest Movies Ever. Review: This movie was rated X when it was released. Its one of those that would only get an R by today's standards. The first mistake you could make is to ever try to take this movie seriously. It is clearly Russ Meyer's best work. It was written by a young film critic named Roger Ebert. The film is filled with every type of vice you can think of. The entire film is a joke parady of serious films like "Valley of the Dolls." You will get a cartoon airplaine diving noise with an attempted suicide. Another cartoon noise with a be-heading. One overly serious situation after another. There's even a heartfelt moral of the story speech at the end. The film is a joke. You'll meet the porno star, the boxer and even Super-woman and I can tell you she's something else. It is about an all girl rock band and theres one party after another. The film contains everything: violence, sex, drugs and will certainly be quite different from anything you've seen. It was ahead of its time by even having both gay and lesbian sex. Even "Austin Powers" borows a line. "This is my happening and it freaks me out." From the music to the murderous rampage, this is one film not to miss.
Rating: Summary: Satire on the Swingers Review: "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" is about a Texas based all girl rock group that relocates to L.A. to try to succeed at their music. When they get there they are immediatly swept up in the swinger lifstyle of the rich, beautiful people. As their party lives gets out of control, they also lose perspective of their personal and proffesional lives as well. Russ Myer directed Roger Ebert's script (yes, THAT Roger Ebert) about the decedence of the late Sixties and Seventies. A lot of people will watch this movie and wonder if they are supposed to take it seriously. No, they are not. It is (I think) a satire on the free love movement of that time. The acting is pretty bad, all of it was way over the top; and the dialogue sounds like Shakespeare shot through a soap opera meat grinder. The end seemed a little strange, but I guess that fits in with the rest of the trashiness of the film. I am giving it a rather high grade because I found it entertaining, in a 'so bad it's good' sort of way; but this is not for most mainstream audiences.
