Summary: Poor in general - but good for a slasher b-movie.
Review: The special effects in this are as weak as they come. The scene with the two counselors looking at the lightning is hilarious. The thunder sounds like somebody shaking a cookie sheet and the lightning looks as if somebody turned a light on and off. The music, however, is FREAKY though... and Mrs. Voorhies scares me to death. She just looks scary. If I had a mom like that - I would flip. Anyway, this movie is good for parties and what not, but it is definitely not a "good" film in general. For real scares and shockers - rent/buy "Candyman," "Halloween," and is you're a classic horror movie buff - get "Psycho" and especially "Repulsion." All of those films are unbelievable and are landmarks in this genre.

Summary: Where's Freddy?
Review: I really hated this movie, it was just so predictable. There was nothing horrible or shocking about it, just hours of boring.... boring. What was Wes Craven thinking, getting involved in with this movie? Thats probably what killed his career, and why none of his other movies have done well. This movie just sucked. The next three, however, were masterpieces, that kept me on the edge of my seet the whole time.

Summary: Awesome!!! One of the best comedies ever made!!!
Review: This movie rocks. It was scary when I saw it in third grade, and the music is still freaky. The Jason in the water sequence is at least a good jumper, and there are a few seriously eerie things going on this movie, like the creepy, creepy bathroom, the ax on the pillow, and that freaky sounding kid voice calling out in the dark. However, all of the potential for real tension and scares that Cunningham had going for him is completely shot to hell by the unintentional comedy this movie provides, which is what it is really worth watching for. The obvious choreography at the end where the fight goes to practically every cabin, the awesome 'gong!' sound the frying pan makes, the delirious overacting by Betsy Palmer, and those extreme close-ups of her nasty teeth (move over, Austin Powers!) make this movie great. Endlessly funny and flawed, this movie is so much fun to make fun of. And take note how the bloody stump of a neck at the end looks like and ashtray with cigarette butts sticking out of it! Awesome!!!!

Summary: Horribly, sadly underrated
Review: This movie deserves more. It is way too scary to be written off as yet another meaningless slasher movie. Should win the Academy Award for Best Atmosphere. The creepy scenery and gloomy lighting make for a heart-pounding, fun film. See it twice.

Summary: CAMP OUT:camping can be murder. . .
Review: FRIDAY THE 13TH is scary. But CAMP OUT is much scarier. A few teens go camping out for the weekend, but only one survives! Till the sequel. Starring Cat, Starwbarry, Lora Luke, Mrs.V, Chubs, Goat-hairs, & TY.

Summary: A FREAKING JOKE
Review: Well, I must say that this piece of crap got a lot of credit, but unfortunately in my book this one rated as the biggest joke in video history, if it rated at all. Two years ago I had to see what all the hype was about. Low and behold I'm on my bike headed for Clinton to Blockbuster. I excitedly pop in the tape, and watch in horror as the so called masterpiece turns out to be the biggest flop I've ever was held witness to. I found myself applauding as the number of dead bodies increased. I was glad they got rid of those horrible actors. It's obvious that they are reading off the script, they might as well have a piece of paper in their hand and sing a song in the beginning! The only satisfaction I got was at the end of the film when Jason appeared from the depths of the lake to drag his final, and most pitiful victim beneath with him. Much to my dismay it was a mere dream, that Alice was experiencing and she survived the first movie. When I heard she'd kick the bucket in the sequel, I immediately rented this one, just for that one moment of satisfaction. Jason: "Hats off to you man." If you want to be scared rent a quality horror movie like The Shining,If you want to laugh, rent Baseketball, or Wrongfully Accused. If you want to cry bitter tears for the piece of crap that this film is, rent Friday The 13th.

Summary: Most popular slasher film!
Review: Since I've first seen this film, I loved it. The acting could be better, but I've seen alot worse. King, (Alice), played a good role.

Summary: Sean Cunningham needed to make some money quick.
Review: This was the result. When I was younger the only horror films I'd seen were slasher films and so I thought this one was okay. But since watching more intelligent kinds of horror I can now see this for what it is - tedious, mindless drivel. The plot (sic) revolves around a lakeside camp which is opened after umpteen years. Basically it's just an excuse for gory murders and aimless wandering around.

Somebody ought to tell makers of these films that it's impossible to gave a damn about characters who are as irritating and contemptable as the ones in this film. A snake is brutally chopped up in loving detail, one of the brainless teenagers remarking 'we know what's for dinner'. Funny how the RSPCA couldn't have cared less. If it was a fox or other mammal that had been slaughtered then there would have been an outcry. Maybe they should rename themselves the RSPCM.

The music in this film is varied in quality. The dire title sequence tune sounds like somebody tooting a car horn, but the end sequence theme is good. The last few minutes are virtually the only worthwhile thing about this film. Mrs Voorhees is effectively portrayed as she stalks the decidedly snotty surviving teen, but by the time she makes an appearance most people will have switched this pointless waste of time off. It's a wonder they ever made any sequels.

Summary: One of the best comedies of the '80s
Review: Friday the 13th is not so much a horror suspense story as a high camp classic. The actors obviously had a blast making this one; it simply cannot be taken seriously! Betsy Palmer's performance as the mad Mrs. Voorhees is so over the top it should have you at least laughing out loud, if not actually down rolling on the floor. Kathy Bates (an Oscar winner for the film Misery) eat your heart out! Ms. Palmer's change of voice in the moments when she "becomes" Jason and director Sean Cunningham's extreme closeups of Palmer are particularly effective and downright hilarious. The "cat fight" between Palmer and Adrienne King in the final reel is well choreographed (and funny) and the "stalking music" throughout is a scream. This is really wild cinema, folks -- a cheesy camp classic that should get your pulse racing from both the inventively gory shock moments and the utter ridiculousness of it all. Buy it. Pop the corn.
