Summary: Better then the book...
Review: This movie has everything a good horror movie needs; a quite town, orphaned young ladies, a bewildered hero, people disappearing and playing their own agendas, and some surreal scenes. The book can be quite confusing after seeing the movie. Most elements are quite different, but the theme is the same. Watch this with an open mind and true friends, you'll have a good, if not a little twisted time. This is a cult classic and you'll want to see it every now and then. This is a very well done film the scene are well thought out and the editing is great. END

Summary: First-Class Trash
Review: This one was despised by the serious critics, but all that means is that they weren't weird enough to enjoy it. All right, it's trash. But it's great trash. It's my idea of a feel-good movie. It's kinky, erotic, scary, and funny. And bright. Literally. After zillions of creepy, dark, scary scenes in movies, the sunshine and well-lit rooms in this one emphasize the horror scenes. But who cares about the lighting? It's main attraction is an over-the-top performance by Amanda Donohoe as a very bad girl. Upper-crust Hugh Grant and his cohorts have a lot of fun trying to evade her slithery grasp. That's about all you need to know. But for heaven's sakes, don't take it seriously. If you hate it, you'll really hate it.

Summary: BRAM STOKER'S ULTIMATE MASTERPIECE........
Review: This storyline is so intellegent, that I think BRAM STOKER should have been most known for this work of art, rather than DRACULA. Another story (which I'm still not quite sure if its based upon the same book, but just altered alittle) BURIAL OF THE RATS is almost just like this, but alot better. I suggest everyone to try this film out see if you like it better than DRACULA. Minus one star for campy acting.

Summary: Off beat Cult film!!!
Review: Up front, NOT everyone will like this film. It's a Ken Russell film, after all. That said, if you are scared of snakes, have a religious bent or hate picked earthworms in aspec, then this film is NOT for you!! Amanda Donahoe turns out a stunning performs as the Lady who is not a lady. Hugh Grant (before he was HUGH Grant) is perfect as Lord D'Ampton. A mystery, a horror with vampire tones, Russell crafts a winning hommage to old Hammer Films, and boldly goes where they rarely did, and adds the dash of droll humour to top off the mix.

Russell's best film!! But as I said, NOT everyone will appreciate it.

Summary: Cheesy, campy, trashy, outrageous
Review: Very...strange film, and a little repulsive in places. What Amanda Donohoe, as the snake-lady thing, does to the Boy Scout in the bathtub might be considered just a little too much. I actually winced. It was half funny, half utterly repulsive. Which, I guess, is what this movie is was supposed to be. That, probably, sums up the entire film--half funny, half repulsive, and utterly trashy. And spitting on a crucifix? Hmm. I dunno. This might be the best intentionally campy film I've ever seen. It's very entertaining, but it's often over-the-top enough to make some shake their heads and roll their eyes upward.

Summary: Excellent, low budget horror
Review: What a surprise, a low budget film with some touches of genius in the typical Ken Russell style. Amanda Donahoe is just outstanding and about the sexiest thigh-length-boot wearing vampire you ever did see. Then there is Hugh Grant's strange fantasy dream with Catherine Oxenberg, Amanda (again!)and Sammi Davis involved in a struggle with lesbian undertones. As based on the Bram Stoker story, it is slightly hoky, but a very enjoyable take and quite gripping on first viewing. As an admirer of the leading ladies (and male) I find this a very erotic story. My wife thought so too. Highly recommended.

Summary: Bite me!
Review: Yes, it's over-the-top! Yes, it's gorey and heretical but this only adds to the movie's drawing power. Both Hugh Grant and Amanda Donohoe are absolutely terrific in their performances. {Darn}can she be so scary and still so sexy, as in the scene where upon hearing a recording of a snake charmers music, she emerges from her wicker basket and sexily slithers across the room and out of the house, dressed in skin tight black leather (how else would a snake wear it's skin?). Another impressionable scene occurs when the lovely Catherine Oxenberg is ready to be fed to the white worm. The poor victim is hanging by her wrists over the lair and the half-serpentine Donohoe, nude and painted blue, doning yellow snake eyes is summoning up the serpent. If you're uptight or prudish, see something else. But if you enjoy a good campy scare with some gore and sexy imagery, don't miss this one!
