Summary: A fresh beginning
Review: It's not very easy to do a prequel movie,(ask George Lucas), so I was very surprised that Full Moon was able to pull this off. I tip my hat to Charles Band. This movie delivers. As for the DVD itself, no surprise that Full Moon gives you your money's worth. The behind the scenes features in the Video Zone make all these DVDs so much better. The major studios need to wake up and realize movie fans desire these "little" extras. Finally, these new retro puppets are cool!

Summary: a dark fairy tale
Review: No gore here! It's largely bloodless - but I'm a huge fan of this horror series and I enjoyed Retro Puppet Master. It's "quaint" and I know many Puppet fans and gore-hounds won't like it but the "fairy tale" quality of this one won me over. Guy Rolfe tells the tale of how once upon a time the young Toulon was granted the magic to bring his puppets to life. This is such a charming little movie that some horror fans will love it and others will hate it. I love all types of horror movies (including the bloodier early Puppet Masters) and I *loved* this one.

Summary: Are They Crazy???
Review: Retro Puppet Master had to be one of THE worst movies ever. It's not even worth watching unless you like watching hot guys crash in burn in such a horrible movie. I feel awfully bad that the lead cast as Andre Toulon as a young man had to make his first lead in such a bad film. Don't even waste your time and money on this movie. Full Moon Pictures really know how to drag a movie series untill it really burns!

Summary: Glutton for punishment? Check out RETRO PUPPET MASTER.
Review: The Puppet Master series, definitely tired after Part III, drags terribly in this, the seventh installment, less a movie than a commercial for more Puppet Master toys. Basically a prequel, an aged Toulon tells his puppets the story of the origins of his powers and the puppets themselves, introducing a few new puppets and "retro" versions of those we already know.

Fans of the Puppet Master series are a forgiving bunch. As an owner of the box set of all seven films (so far), I must admit that my standards aren't too high when it comes to horror films, especially these Full Moon creations. This time, however, there was no gratifying gore or over-the-top characters (a la BLOOD DOLLS) to make up for the downright terrible acting and lack of action or compelling story. I'm sure the budget for this production was ultra-low, but even the traditionally bad animation of the puppets was especially stilted in this chapter. There are zero scares - and zero blood for that matter. The puppets merely slash at reanimated mummies sent to retrieve Toulon's secret--and they barely manage to scare up some sawdust while dispatching the villains.

The film's ending in itself is a reason to celebrate, save for the fact that yet another sequel is set up with a last line of "that's another story for another time." In the accompanying VideoZone feature, Charles Band assures the viewer that a full line of action figures will be marketed for this film. No kidding. If you're a Puppet Master fan, though, you'll need to own this. There's just something about a film that's so bad as to make it irresistable. In the end, I don't know what's worse: this film or the fact that I know I'll be first in line to buy Part 8 when it's released...and Part 9...and 10...

Summary: Retro Piece Of...
Review: This film is really not even worth the time it took to write this review, however, it has been written to prevent some poor individual from actually having to see what I saw. It has bad accents, bad dialogue, laughable costumes, wretched effects and minute amounts of violence. The dolls, retro or not, just plain [...stink]. The dark clad villians are even worse. I usually enjoy Full Moon videos but this is one that should have never been given the green light.

Summary: Full Moon Picture's Worst!
Review: This film needed alot of work. When I rented it I only watched it once since it was so stupid and non violent.Puppet Master 1,2,3,4,5,and 6 are all good but this is just plain and stupid. The film's special effects stunk and so did the cast this film. The Puppet Master Series I think was Fullmoon's greatest series next to Subspecies but this film broke the best series.Don't let the cover fool you. They look so mean and bad but when you first see them they are not mean and angry like the first Puppet Master films.I think FullMoonPictures should have never made this since it doesn't have Horror, suspence, drama,or even love.I rather watch Puppet Master 6 than this one.Hey,Fullmoon don't make a film like this again or prepare to suffer. This film really is for kids not teens and adults.Kids may like this since it has a Fantasy side but I hated it.

Summary: Seventh movie in the series better that the last three.
Review: This is an entertaining prequel to the entire series. Andre Toulon tells the puppets from the first 6 movies about their ancestors and how he learned "the secret of life".Exceptionally bad acting, even for Puppet Master movies. Oh yeah, and let's not forget the standard lack of consistency with the rest of the Puppet Master mythology. However, if you're a fan of the series you already expect these things. Far superior to the embarrasing sixth film, Curse of the Puppet Master.

Summary: Full Moon's Best ever!
Review: This movie was great! It had everything that makes a great Puppet Master movie. This movie moves away from the original batch of puppets (who only have a cameo here) and focus on the equally cool retro puppets and how Toulon became the Puppet Master. This movie was well made with good acting and special effects. In the end, the only complaints I had were (A) the lack of violence and (B) the sometimes strange and hokey dialogue.

Summary: BACK TO THE FUTURE/ RETRO
Review: THIS WAS A FUN FILM! IT HAD THE OLD GOTHIC LOOK TO IT, AND HAD THE FRANKENSTEINISH FEEL TO IT.THE YOUNG TOULON WAS SO COOL UNDER PRESSURE WHILE THE GIRL(ILSA) WAS SO AGRESSIVE. I LOVED THE OLD THEATRE AS WELL AS THE SNOW. I FELT AS IF I WAS IN A LAND FAR FAR AWAY. A FRIEND SAID IT LACKED HORROR AND BLOOD. I THOUGHT IT WAS REFRESHING TO SEE A REAL LOVE STORY INVOLVED IN A HORROR MOVIE. IT WAS AN OLD TIME HORROR MOVIE AND I LOVED IT. IT WAS ORIGINAL AND HEARTFELT. THE DARKNESS OF IT BROUGHT ME IN AND TOULON HAD A GREAT APPEAL OF PLAYING THE UNKNOWN FIGURE. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT FOR A DATE MOVIE! BEST OF LUCK IN EGYPT AND PARIS 1902!
