Review: I'm not one for writing a reveiw. But this movie is amazing. A classic horror movie. The sceen when they bring out grandpa for dinner is great. Bone chilling screams, and the music fits right in with them. I say this movie is one of my favoirts. I can't wait to get it on DVD.

Review: YES! finally i see this film on DVD... oh man, what a movie! i wish i had seen it in the cinema back in '74 though, but still the first time i saw it was on super8(8mm) in the old days... intense is the word for this movie, the soundtrack totally freaks you out, what a brilliant soundtrack... Gunnar Hansen(leatherface)which is from Iceland became a worldwide horror movie cult legend for this movie... and for me being from Iceland makes this one highly recommended! forget björk this is a true icelandic hero!

Review: The DVD edition of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is simply essential for all TCM fans. For a movie that's achieved almost mythical status among its devotees, the unearthing of unknown and unseen gems from the making of TCM is a treasure trove. On the DVD, you get outtakes and bloopers, trailers and TV ads for the original movie and its inferior sequels, scores of publicity stills, and an alternate audio track featuring Tobe Hooper, Gunnar Hansen and cinematographer Daniel Pearl giving a running commentary of the film as it plays. Their comments lend much insight into how TCM was made, the impact of the film, and updates about what happened to various cast members. The film itself has been restored to a vibrantly colorful print, and the viewer has the option of watching the film in stereo or in its original mono mix. If only every DVD could be this lavishly issued... If you haven't seen the film yet, you must know that this is a landmark horror/suspense film. Far from the river of blood its title suggests, there's relatively little killing in the movie; its strengths lie in a palpable atmosphere of Texas heat and dread; black as oil humor, and heart-in-your-throat suspense. Its reputation as a sick, gory slashfest comes mainly from its myriad inferior imitators. Check out the DVD and make your own judgment.

Summary: Look what your brother did to the door!
Review: This is the most intense and frightening film anyone has ever made ever and without its release a lot of the modern slasher movies would not exist. Wow this film has power, from the opening shots of the insane hitchhiker diggin up graves, to the crazed chainsaw wielding leatherface cutting up his own leg you can see that Tobe Hooper knows how to keep the audience on edge, and also without the use of much gore. It is not a nice film but if you like being terrified beyond all belief and like films to be intense, then sit down in an 'armchair' and see this movie, you will not be dissapointed.

Summary: Perhaps the Single-Most Horrifying Film Ever Made
Review: I may never forget the first time I saw this. I was twelve years old, and just getting into the horror genre. I can't remember where I found out about this movie, but as soon as I did, I knew I had to see it. So, one night, I rented it, and in a dark living room, sat there gripping the arms of the chair I was sitting in, watching in awe-struck horror as the terror unfolded.To this day, I still get chilled by this movie, and I must have seen it eight time since I first rented it. I remember that night, going to bed. I had the worst nightmares ever, I didn't even sleep. And I still get nightmares sometimes. This is the most amazing film ever. There really isn't enough I could say about this. The psychological impact, the acting, the storyline, the reality of it all. First of all, where is Marilyn Burns today? She gave a performance in this film that still hasn't been matched, by anyone at all in the horror genre. I am a huge fan of this film, and found out that she went through absolute hell for some of the scenes in this movie, and never quit. And that takes a lot to keep going. But by the end of the shoot, a lot of her visible injuries were real. Also, her acting. Reminded me a lot of Heather in "The Blair Witch Project," but even better. Burns is truly impressive in the dinner scene, screaming for what seems like no end, and then very slowly going off the brink of insanity. You would think she actually did go mad! I recommend Tobe Hooper's weak follow-up, "Eaten Alive." Not a great movie, except for the last five minutes. Burns also starred in that, playing her role similar to TCM. And check out the ending to that one. She's truly amazing in those few minutes. This movie is pure genius, and nothing may ever top it. The gritty, cheap look only adds to the effect. This could never be a huge Hollywood production. Hooper never really proved to make anything better than this, his debut film, though "Poltergeist" is a recommended work of his that is far tamer, but still a good movie. But this is still the most terrifying film ever made, and will continue scaring audiences for years to come.

Summary: The Freakiest Movie I've Ever Seen
Review: As a massive horror fan from the UK (where this film is banned) I had to wait many years to see this film, and after all the hype and expectations which I had built up I was half expecting to be dissapointed when i finally watched it...how wrong could I be? This film had me gripped instantly. The film builds up suspense like no other and when the murders do actually happen they are not ruined, like many other horrors, by almost comical deaths, they are nasty! This film is gritty and raw, with documentary like visuals which only add further to the sense of fear which you can almost smell. The acting is brilliant, its laid back yet energetic at the same time. Never have I seen fear portrayed as realistically as Marilyn Burns haunting display in this movie (but then again I never looked at myself in the mirror while watching the film). All of the factors in this film mix to make an evil couldron of depravity, that'll make you too afraid to look but even more scared when you close your eyes. This film is the freakiest i've ever seen and to say i enjoyed it seems kind'a sick as the killings are so realistic and depraved, but there's no denying it, I loved it.

Summary: Great Horror movie
Review: I really thought that this movie was great it was very scary yet not so bloody. but one thing that bothers me is how these people who give it one star question why it was banned. Did you see the movie? It's a movie about a crazy family who kill and eat their victims. They aren't eating beef at dinner! And the wallpaper and lampshades are made out of skin. The whole scene with the grandfather was extremely twisted. That's what got it banned.

Summary: Leatherface Carves Up a Horror Classic
Review: In 1974,this little horror film from Austin, Texas made for a mere $140,000 went on to make more than $50 million in the United States alone. Tobe Hooper's notorious slasher film pre-cursor is still extremely shocking and horrifying after all these years. The fact that the film has very little on-screen blood or gore is a tribute to film's ability to allude and elevate the terror without showing the needless film gore that freqented many of TCM numerous inferior rip-offs. Starting off as what appears to be a slowly-paced road picture, TCM immediately becomes aggresively intriging and intimately eerie as the band of five young adults explore the mystery behind the disapperance of the bodies of several local dead from nearby cemeteries. The static sun-drenched shots of a cattle-slaughtering ranch, a local cemetary, and a run-down farm house foreshadow undetermined malice hiding subtlely under the surface of normacy. Though TCM's fist 30 minutes might seem dull and slow, its pathos and eerie seductive mood place the audience exactly where Hooper wants them when it comes time to start the slaughter. Expert horror fans may find TCM to be predictable and dated. Yet, it must be said that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre along with Halloween created the rules and eventual cliches that plagued and burdened the horror genre. Watch the film as it was intended and experience one of the most gut-wrenching and overwhelming intense films ever made. A must-see for horror fans. Note: The DVD edtion has fantastic extras, Tobe Hooper commentary, and a great restored print of the film. If your a fan of TCM pick it up.

Summary: A classicly sick shocker
Review: The film doen't consist of an extensive plot. Five friends venture into the Texas countryside, reading horoscopes, and checking out a family grave plot. Gradually, they all seperate toward a dilapidated country home, wanting to ask for gas (or check if there friends have been there). I'm sixteen, and am I horror buff. This isn't one of my all-time favorite fright flicks, but it does indeed become part in my list of most scary films. I suppose the setting and fact that it is loosely based on fact makes it ultra creepy. I live in Nebraska, and that house is eerily close to reality. The direction is creative and beautiful. It is similar (creativity wise) to that of Sam Raimi in the Evil Dead (which is not nearly as good as this film). The film manages to be eerie, while having no real bloody gore. It is just implied. Horror fans should adore this classic 70's flicks, though others may think it is disturbed, which it is. I downgraded the film to a 4, due to the point when Sally is taken back to the home. At that time, the film went from atmospherically terrifying, to oddly twisted. View it definately. Also, rent the ultimate (my fav) horror flick (and of all flicks) Halloween. The creepy set is also intact, and so is the great direction and eeriness. Halloween is much, much, much better, but TCM is still a monumentally scary slasher pic.
