Some of the lines in this movie are unforgettable. The dialogue is fantastic and moving. I love these first person narratives, they just don't make enough movies like this anymore. Those who read books and enjoy the classic vampire tales will love this one. It is the most under-rated film I have yet come across. Ash and Zachary are played to the hilt by a few actors I would like to see a lot more of, these are some talented people. The cinematography, the setting, the atmosphere is perfection brought to life. Somebody put a lot of work and love into this film and it shows. The use of shadows and shadowy movement is reminiscent of the very first Nosferatu; it doesn't get more classic than that. "Vampire Journals" appeals to a more mature audience. They are not going for eye popping special effects, and heart-stopping action with this movie. Though the special effects that do exist are very well done. Nothing in this movie looks "cheap" or fake. If you like action and vampires checkout Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or Blade 1 and 2. But if you are more drawn to films like Interview with a Vampire, you will really like this one.

Summary: definately worth your while
Review: a definate gothic sound track with portray an erie atmosphere in which the movie will play around...Although the acting isn't the best and the movie at times is a little choppy it is worth your time to sit and watch. Maybe even to buy so you could enjoy it more than once.

Summary: Surprisingly good
Review: A suprisingly good grade "b" movie. The locations were exquisite. The film maker really gave you the feeling that vampires could exist and are out there among us. With the exception of the "heroine", the acting was very good. The "heroine's" acting was a little too stary eyed and innocent, but could easily be ignored amidst the overall feeling of evil, anguish, and blood.

Summary: I see potential in this one
Review: After the horrid SUbspecies 4, I had doubts about viewing this, mostly because it is a spinoff from that series. I was wrong. This is an excellent entry into the Full Moon library.The story revolves around a Vampire Hunter, who is a Vampire seeking to destroy the Fledgling from SUbspecies 4. However he has only been a vampire for around 100 years, while the fledgling has a good 500 under his belt. Easy to say our hero is inexperienced. However the fledgling does have a weakness, classical music. Through twists and turns the two confront each other, although they don't fight at first, the hero is welcomed into the society. Although he slayed his master The fledgling is willing to forgive and forget. In the end this is worth checking into if you liked the Subspecies series. However if you had never seen any of them than you may want to proceed with caution.

Summary: Only one thing is for certain......
Review: I am a little biased, because David Gunn is one of my favorite actors. The story was somewhat stereotypical in the fact that it was gothic, but the setting in Romania and the filming of it was superb. The story is about a romantic man(he writes poetry--how great is that!)who was turned into a vampire by his sire Serena. He vows to take revenge on the bloodline that made him what he is and killed his fiancee. The most powerful one is Ash, a music lover that falls in love with a pianist named Sofia(played by Kirsten Cerre).Zachary(Gunn)tries to use Sofia as bait while he kills Ash with the holy Blade of Laertes, but the twists come in here. There is plenty of vampiric adventure. A bit of nudity and gore(check out the fireplace scene at Club Muse) It is a beautiful story of a humanist abomination and is set in modern times(unlike Christopher Lee's films). A terrific movie and one that you will fall in love with. But, like I said, I am a little biased.

Summary: Pleasant Surprise
Review: I don't remember The Vampire Journals being advertised in 1997 for a theatrical run. If I had, I'm sure I would have gone to see it, if not for the re-telling of the Dracula legend, surely for the photography, which is excellent. The story and the acting are very good considering that this was probably, by Hollywood's standards a low budget horror film. For one the viewer is not in New York or Los Angeles, but in a very old and very eerie Romania where a mood for menace is set through it's architecture, mysterious streets, and the director's very effective shadow work. The actors in this film are unknowns and delivers credible performances in a story of vengeance, and malevolence. Although the DVD is full-frame it is a good transfer with a nice featurette that kicks in at the very end of the credits. I bought this DVD because I liked the cover (a first) and being a fan of the genre I was curious. The purchase was worth it. The movie is very stylish, very well made and worth a second look for those of you who like myself, missed it the first go-round.

Summary: could have been much better, maybe with different casting
Review: I liked the dark gothic feel of this modern vampire story but it just didn't live up to my expectations. I saw Subspecies years back and from what I remember it was a very good movie, as well as stylish. I do wish Subspecies was on DVD. I think what bothered me about Vampire Journals was Ash, Movies are normally defined by the bad guy and I just didn't like Ash, and it wasn't one of those "love to hate" things either. He just wasn't stylish enough for a vampire. When I think of vampires I think of two variations... either 1) A very attractive person ... immortal, which generally means young, where as ash looked like a 50 year old washed up 80's rock star, especially with the teased hair. Kinda looked like White Snakes David Coverdale. 2) or.. a vile and disgusting creature like in subspecies, I mean that vampire looked cool! As well as Nosferatu. Plus the acting wasn't all that great. So take this review for what its worth. I think Vampire Journals could have been much better, maybe with different casting!

Summary: great vampire pic
Review: I really enjoyed this one. I saw it on the sci-fi channel a year ago and then I found in at a local store which sells movies and I bought it. I liked the setting and the way its all played out. you got a master who takes a woman who plays piano this one vampire(good vampire, I think his names Zack) likes and then Zack comes and kills them all. the end where the master comes out in a hall where Zack chases him with a sweet sword and then flings him off the top into sunlight below is the highlight. highly recommended if your a vampire movie fan
