Summary: Complete disappointment!
Review: Ok, i have heard that this movie is supposed to be so scary, but all it did was disappoint me! It was not a thriller, nor a horror movie. It was a complete waste of my time and money. i would NOT recommend it to any Wes Craven fan. And unless you can watch it for free, i definitely would discourage anyone from buying it.

Summary: Not the Best
Review: I thought that this movies was a slight mockery to the true crime that happened. From the cheesey music to the two idiot Police officers the movies seemed like it was suppose to be some kind of comedy. I don't think it really depicted the true crime.

Summary: Post-hippy times unhappy times
Review: In this film Wes Craven is in the making. We find his favorite themes such as the way he makes fun of local cops : incompetent, fat, bird-brained and other nice elements like that, and of course they always arrive late. What's more it is hilarious to see them trying to thumb a lift and to be put lower than chickens, in chicken scoops if you please. Hilarious, well, not exactly because they are after four dangerous escapees from a prison who are trying to kill a few people, starting with two girls. He also makes fun of grown-up hippies and their baby hippy girl. Fun, but this time it is not funny ah ah, because those postmodern hippies open their own house to the murderers of their own daughter, though they don't know about it, but yet, these « guests » are not exactly model guests. Finally the victims find themselves alone in front of the criminals and they have to improvise some defense or some vengeance, and there Wes Craven uses his favorite art, which is quoting situations and means from other films. So we get all kinds of strong images, including the chain saw that cannot be avoided. Still this is only the beginning of a career, but the future genius of gross horror is already born. Summary: Powerful exercise of unrelenting tension
Review: An infamous classic and extremely shocking piece of cinema - Wes Craven's directorial debut is both mean and upsetting, but with almost solid performances throughout, deserves 82 minutes of any horror/thriller fan's time.

David Hess gives an all-too real performance as the evil Krug, leader of a group of convicts, who escaped from Jail - even as the film starts and introduces the audience to this group of four, we learn that Krug was locked up for the rape and murder of two nuns and a priest! As the plot develops, they kidnap two girls under false pretenses, rape them and ultimately torture and murder them. They then go to the nearest house (the one of the title) and unwittingly stay with the parents of one of the girls. The parents work out what has happened and all hell breaks loose - the ending is quite a treat and almost more violent than what the gang do to the two girls, though slightly justified.

The film was made with a small budget in 1972, which does sometimes reveal itself, but mostly it's a real 'tour-de-force', a shockingly brilliant exercise into extreme tension. The MGM re-release is slightly cut to trim some of the more excessive gore/violence, but this makes the film in some ways more effective as then more is left to the imagination.

Watch this film - hate or love it, you can't help but atleast admire such a bold effort from a very young Wes Craven.

Summary: Wes Craven's Disturbing, Ultra-Violent Debut is Classic!
Review: THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT is Wes Craven's startling debut as a no holds barred horror director. Unflinching in its depiction of torture, rape, and humiliation it can still make audiences gasp almost thirty years after its initial release. This tale of two young girls on their way to a concert and their misfortunate run in with four dangerous fugitives is essential viewing for any fan of the Horror genre. What really disturbed me in this film is the way the four villains had so much fun in demeaning and then killing the two girls. And how very close help was... Little Craven-esque quirks tended to pop up (such as a sudden shift from extreme violence to a scene of almost slapstick humor) that will remind viewers of the Elm Street and Scream series. As well as one of the killers names being "Krug" add an "er" and well, you figure it out. Keep a look out for the mother's scene of revenge down by the lake, that alone is worth the price of admission. Truly deserving of "cult" status!

Summary: still powerful horror
Review: Watching THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT is like watching a snuff movie: It was cheaply produced and has a grainy quality, which only adds to the feel. The actors are horrifyingly realistic whether playing the victims or the sadists. This isn't horror in the sense of "OOH... that was scary." It does, however, define the word "Horror." You often can't believe what you're seeing, and often don't want to see anymore. It's an attack on your senses: moral, emotional, sexual... It's a great psychological piece and whether you love it or hate it, you can't deny its impact on the viewer, nor its importance in the history of horror cinema as one of the most violent films ever made. Without it, there probably wouldn't be a TEXAS CHAINSAW or FRIDAY THE 13th. While definitely not for everyone, I would still definitely recommend checking it out.

Summary: Good
Review: Many people often only hear that this movie was about rape but it was more then that you could feel for the parents and agree with what they did. To me it seemed like a documentry that would be on A and E

Summary: not for the faint of heart
Review: This movie is fantasitic, but i honestly couldnt tell you that i enjoyed watching it. From the master of horror, his debut film is his most shocking. This will sreioulsy mess with you.

But still, a must see.

Summary: Well-crafted and disturbing movie...
Review: The Last House on the Left was not quite what I would classify as a horror movie, but it is quite interesting, nonetheless. There are a few graphically violent scenes, but they were comically balanced out by a pair of inept policemen tracking the attackers.

The dialogue is fairly realistic, and Sandra Cassel and Lucy Grantham play a pair of engaging best friends on their way to a concert by their favorite band, Bloodlust. When they try to buy some marijuana from a guy on the street, they end up in a nightmare that ultimately leads back to the house of one of the girls.

The scariest part of the movie is the simple fact that what goes on in this movie (the girls being attacked moreso than the revenge) could so easily happen in real life. This movie is not for anyone bothered by torture or brutality.
