Summary: You bunch of yo-yo's!
Review: Having been a fan of Romero's "Dead" films, It was kind of weird to find out that "Night of the living dead" was being remade, by non other then the makeup master of "Dawn of the dead" Tom Savini.
The plot is essentially the same to the 1968 original: the recently deceased are being reanimated by an unknown force and are attacking the living. While they are weak and uncoordinated, they are extremely dangerous when encountered in large numbers. A bullet to the brain or some sort of incapcitation to the brain will render them truly dead, but I feel that the success of Romero's "Dead" films was that while the reanimated bodies were essentially weak, the fact that they were both dead AND attacking people was their strength, coupled with the fact that extreme measures must be taken to dispose of them, rendering normal burial rituals wholly inadequate. A bullet to the head, mass graves, cremations; it all sounds like the (...) camps of World War II. People would not want to deal with that, no matter how necessary.
Tony Todd(Candyman) is perfect as Ben, as is Patricia Tallman as a new souped up Barbara. Tom Towle's Harry Cooper is as despicable as ever, a perfect example of those indviduals who deny a crisis and refuse to help their fellow man. The DVD transfer is excellent, with commentary by director Tom Savini and a featurette on the making of NOTLD '90. For some reason, a Portuguese soundtrack is also included, which is kind of cool to listen to. A great addition to any Romero fan or zombie fan's library.

Summary: Yes, I liked it better than the original!!!
Review: I really loved this movie. I watch many horror flicks and this is one of only three that actually freaked me out. I loved it. Yes, I liked it better than the original. I just had trouble with how everything was in the orginal. The new movie, The leading lady is actually worth something. She gets tough and kicks butt. The first movie, she is so air headed (not that I blame her) I just couldn't stand it. See this and you should see the first one but this one is the best!

Romero, He Re-Wrote the Original Screenplay by Himself and John A. Russo. The Situation are Different than the Original, the Acting is fine, including the One by Barbara (Tallman) making Her, a Strong and Tougher Performance. This is a Well Done Horror Remake. Grade:A-.

Summary: It's A Remake But it's a Classic
Review: George Romero did the right thing when he picked Tom Savini to remake Night of The Living Dead. Tom did such a great job with this movie. The effects are top notch for the time, it keeps you on your toes like it's supposed to. The Zombies are really first rate best looking zombies in an American made zombie flick. Tony Todd's acting in this is also first rate and he deserves a lot of credit for his job in this. He really makes the movie work and you really do feel for him and Barbera both. I would love to see Tom Savini's original cut of this before the sensors got too it, it would be a gore fest. The Documentary on this DVD is great and getting to see some of the edited scenes is great too.
I bought this for Halloween and i have yet to celebrate Halloween without watching this movie they just go hand in hand it's the perfect movie for a halloween night Fright Fest. With this DVD and John Carpernter's Halloween you just can't go wrong.
I also think Patricia Tallman did an excellent job as well and really liked what they did with her character in this as compared to the first one. That is just my opinion but i really like this movie.

Summary: Excellent Zombie Viewing
Review: The original Night is an excellent film. The remake is also a well done film, although it could have been a bit gorier,( I mean, they went from Day with its visceral carnage to this one, which doesn't get into much zombie tearing of flesh). Seeing past that this is a great film which I recommend to any zombie freaks out thier. It has a lot of good moments, I especially like the scenes where Tony Todd wrestles through a pack of zombies to get to the house, very amusing. I love these films because I can watch them again anytime and they still are very enjoyable.

Summary: Often slighted but worthwile remake
Review: Savini's heavy handed directorial style can be hard to swallow but he does manage to pull some good scared out of even the most seasoned "living dead" viewer. He is aware that most of those watching the movie will have seen the original countles times so he plays on your expectations and 9 times out of 10 it delivers! I have to say thought I was unimpressed with the Linda (Terminator) Hamilton esque reworking of the Barbra character but Tom Towles does a fine job with a truly hateful Harry! And those Zombies! Best ones I have seen in a stateside living dead film. Check this one out for your flesh eating fix but make sure you buy Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2 as well!

Summary: Easily eclipses the original.
Review: Out of respect,most filmmakers,especially first-timers such as Tom Savini,avoid attempting to remake classics.I understand there apprehension,some things are best left alone.This is a very rare instance in which i'm grateful someone was willing to take a chance and update one of the most influential independent horror films of the last 30 years.Filming in Black and White added to the original's sense of dread and terror,but the remake utilizes color to great effect,enhancing the tension,impending sense of doom,and the horror of being surrounded by animated corpses.The two leads carry the whole film almost singlehandedly,with strong performances in a genre that can easily lend itself to comedy,and caricature.The special makeup effects are genuinely gruesome,and chilling,while simultaneously beautiful and entrancing.The living dead never looked so good,or realistic.The music is also utilized to great effect,capturing the intense feeling of dread,confusion,mistrust,and paranoia.In an era of soulless mega-budget fluff with dazzling computer effects,this perfect blend of horror,action,and drama comes highly reccomended to fans of the genre.Arguably one of the top 5 horror films of all time.

Summary: 100 TIMES BETTER THEN THE ORIGINAL
Review: Say what you will, but this movie takes the cake from all of the zombie movies. (Except "DAWN OF THE DEAD," of course.) It really captures the claustraphobic terror of being trapped with strangers in a small house, with hundred of flesh-eating zombies outside. You can't leave. You can't stay. Patricia Tallman does a better job than the over dramatic Judith O'dea, and is a lot tougher and bitchier. The original heroine was just a whimpy scream queen wanna be on a verge of a nervous break down. I also hated the ending of the original, and the remake made me happy with its more upbeat ending. I will not spoil it for you, but will say this: In the original "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD" Barbara's annoying brother Johny kept saying "They're coming to get you Barbara" (he does the same thing in the new one too) Well, this time Barbara is ready for them. Nobody is waiting for Johny. Whatever she last before, she lost it a long time ago. But enough about Barbara. All of the actors are doing better jobs then the ones in the original. ( I think it is because they are actually are proffesioanl actors.) But, the Coopper's daughter is a bit dissapointing. Anyway, ... the original, and get this one!!!!!!!! WHAT ARE YYOU WAITING FOR? I SAID, NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: "They're coming to get you in color, Barbara..."
Review: Horror film makeup artist Tom Savini directed this color remake of the landmark 1968 film, which really doesn't offer us anything the original doesn't - especially since the black and white picture and low budget were a large part of the original film's charm to begin with. Essentially the same format, with several strangers barricading themselves inside an abandoned farmhouse while flesh eating zombies ravage the countryside. Instead of sinking into catatonia, Barbara (Patricia Tallman) becomes confident and aggressive. Ben (Tony Todd) is competent but he doesn't overshadow the late Duane Jones in his role. Harry Cooper (Tom Towles) is just an obnoxious jerk, and very annoying. The original Harry Cooper (Karl Hardman) was a jerk too - but the guy was obviously terrified. The other characters aren't painted very well, and there's actually less munching on the living characters here. Curiously, in this one no explanation is offered as to why the dead are rising up and attacking the living. Very little script changes until the end. Passable Saturday afternoon fare, but definitely preferable to the colorized 1968 version.
