Review: Ok, I am getting pretty tired of the "higher ups" dicking us around with the release of this season 2 DVD. As with all the other fellow Peakers out there, I too have the awful 29 episodes on tape. I actually returned the tapes because they were so bad in quality, only to realize that the new set they gave me was no better. When I bought Season 1 on DVD, I was so happy to see such wonderful clarity, sound...everything!! I really hope these people get their act together already and quit teasing us with a release date for Season 2. It would really ... to just have Season 1...and have to watch the rest of the series on my ... VHS tapes. They did such a wonderful thing by putting Season 1 on DVD...I just don't see the big deal about getting the rest on DVD....what is the friggin hold up! A very disgusted peaker.....

Summary: JONSIN' FOR SEASON TWO
Review: I am a huge David Lynch fan. ESPECIALY Twin Peaks. I own the episodes on VHS (as horrible in quality as they are), and was so happy when I found season one on DVD. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the DVDs (especialy after wearing out the already bad VHS tapes). What I enjoy most with the DVDs, in comparison to the VHS tapes (aside from the obvious quality improvement), is the optional intro with the Log Lady. In some false hope that the powers that be may read this I have to ask, why couldn't the entire series have been put into one package as was done with the VHS tapes to begin with? The first season was really only a half season anyway. I beg you to release the second season on DVD, even if it is through an order form as a previous "review" suggested. This is seriously torture thinking that I may have to revert to my VHS tapes forever to finish the series.

Summary: amazing show, RELEASE SEASON 2!!!
Review: although i am young (22) and was even younger when the series originally aired (9) i DO remember it. in fact i remember that it was one of my favorite shows much to my parents' dismay and i accredit it greatly for my twisted sense of humor and taste for the bizaare and absurd. when i found out that season 1 was released on dvd i snatched it up, and after digesting that (and purchasing the import, region-free pilot DVD) i need more. its been so long that it is like watching it all for the first time for me, and although i distinctly remember the series resolution, i wish to re-experience all of season two.
in short DAMMIT Lions Gate/Artisan, release it.
from what i'm hearing, there are many foreign releases set for the end of this year, and with any luck they will surprise us with at least part one of season 2 here.
it will be on my xmas list at the very least.

Summary: the supposed reason for the lack of release...
Review: (...) Season One, a great release, with high quality in audio, video, and extras, was released by Artisan because of a deal they had to release items from the Spelling Entertainment catalog. They got this deal for a nice price, because the catalog apparently wasn't very profitable at the time of their deal. Against rumors, the excellent season one release apparently sold very well. What prohibited Artisan from releasing Season Two (and perhaps even the pilot episode?) was that the Spelling catalog became more profitable, and the owner of the catalog, Paramount, became more protective of their property. Artisan was and is still able to release Spelling material until their deal ends (...), but: it's Paramount that owns the original prints of Twin Peaks. Artisan has prints, supposedly, but not of a quality one would want on a DVD. Paramount has no requirement to make their materials available to Artisan, but could lend them at a price of their making, or simply not allow access at all. Artisan is a small company, and Paramount could easily place the cost for access to the prints out of their range, if they made an offer. Who knows; and none of this is more than speculation, but it's well-informed speculation from Lynch's site. Meanwhile, foreign versions of the entire series are due to be released - I believe by Paramount - in Europe(...). It's a safe bet that when Artisan's deal (...), Paramount will release a domestic new, definitive Twin Peaks series for DVD, which would likely include the pilot as well (I know there's an oddity here in the idea that the pilot is somehow absent from Artisan's release, and yet it of course came out before season one; how the availability/lack thereof fits into all this, I've no clue). The pilot and series were produced and/or released by Republic Pictures, which is owned by Paramount. The film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me was released by New Line. But is it within the Spelling catalog in terms of final distribution rights? No idea; if Paramount had the rights to it, it could presumably be released as a final part of the TP series. And if Paramount was putting a lot into the production of this series, it makes me wonder if they'd fund a new cut of FWWM, which Lynch has said he could do, but wouldn't unless he was given the cash to do it properly (and that it would involve a lot of work). Apparently there's a lot of deleted but unfinished scenes. The idea of them re-releasing FWWM in this manner is my feverish speculation, not Lynch's, although it is he who publicly said that he'd be open to doing this. So after all this, if you've yet to buy Artisan's Season One, should you? Up to you. But nothing is set in stone: perhaps Artisan will yet get a deal to release Season Two. Perhaps Lions Gate, which has recently acquired Artisan, will make a deal with Paramount and release it, since they've more cash and clout. Or, we'll see a new, definitive, complete series from Paramount (...). Or perhaps it will be years before we ever again see anything domestic on DVD. As things stand, Artisan's Season One is an excellent release, especially given the limitations they might have faced. I'm sure they'd have included the pilot if they could have. And their release has decent extras. In the meantime, TP fans should check out HBO's show Carnivale, the first season of which will most certainly be released on DVD sooner or later; definitely sooner than any other TP material. Besides featuring Michael Anderson from Twin Peaks, the show itself is brilliant and is often compared to TP both in tone and quality.

Summary: DVD release update (sigh!)
Review: OK, folks. Some bad news. Artisan has announced that not enough Season 1 sets were bought to cover costs, and they now have no intention of releasing Season 2 on DVD in the USA. This was reported by a reputable website ((...), but you can do a search and find the info fairly easily). But, there is some hope. Artisan was recently purchased by Lions Gate Entertainment, who might feel differently. You can send them a begging email at their feedback address (...)). Also, the Region 2 sets are starting to come out. The Spanish set it already available (though lacking in quality, I'm told). Others were supposed to follow, but have been universally pushed back, mostly to October 2004. Better not sell those VHS tapes yet, folks. And when your DVD player breaks down, pick up a new one that's Region-free. (...)

Summary: Why buy season one?
Review: The 5 stars is for the series, I haven't seen the dvd. Though short, the Twin Peaks series is certainly one of the very best. Not seeing season two available on dvd, I was hesitant about buying season one on dvd a few years ago. I eventually bought TPS1, in good faith that season two would be produced shortly after. What a disappointment that the powers that be have not, and may not release TPS2 on dvd for the US market. That would feel like a huge ripoff to not release TPS2 on dvd. I wonder how many people want to buy season one but don't, waiting to see if season two will indeed be released or not, and with the great quality of season one. Powers that be, keep that in mind when considering whether to release the second on dvd. The release of season two should happen for posterity if not for the fans.

Summary: Possibly the best TV series of all time.
Review: This series was and is the most original, well-written and addictive television show ever made. When I look at some of the crap on TV these days, it makes me want to go back and just re-watch Twin Peaks again. Of course, I can't really watch it, at least not all of it, because Artisan WON'T RELEASE IT. That's like putting Star Wars: A New Hope on DVD, then not releasing Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi. Huh? Why even bother putting out Season One then? Of all the volumes of crap that are floating out there on DVD, I cannot believe that Season Two of Twin Peaks sits on the shelf. What a complete and utter disappointment. I say wait to buy this set until Artisan deems it a prudent time to put out Season Two.

Summary: One Peak Lonely
Review: Twin Peaks was first botched in television by frequent air schedule changes, and because the series, like Sports Night, was killed before its peak time, I guess for some good commercial reasons that made sense in the medium for which the series was produced. Subsequently, the VHS collection containing all episodes aired by ABC in network television was released. This gave viewers a chance to grasp the big picture independently from programming whims. Unfortunately, the videos lack the great visual quality that the series deserves. The release of the special edition in DVD brought all viewers--including those without the financial means to afford cable back then--closer to being able to look at this, arguably the best series every produced in American television, sans snow or blemishes. It is a disgrace, though, that this included only the lonely first season, and that there is no indication as to if and when the second season is going to be released. This move, understandable only by virtue of marketing formulas focusing strictly on the bottom line, forces those wanting to look at the whole picture to relive the ancient traumas of uncertainty. Make the twins peak, release the second season in DVD, let BOB live in clear digital waves as he was designed to do.

Review: I did a little digging (I'm itching to get my hands on Season 2 like all o' y'all) and whilst I couldn't find diddly-squat on the distributor's website, I came across an Australian online DVD store currently taking pre-orders for Season 2, with a release date of October 7th 2004. The profile says it'll be a 4-disc set (though, running time TBA?), distributor price unconfirmed. BUT (and you all saw that 'but' coming a mile away) it's a Region 4 PAL release (good for me, but not for many of you). Couldn't find any info about other regions, sorry kids! Surely they must realise how rabid us Twin Peaks fans are and bring the frickin' DVD out already. Gnash, gnash.

Review: I am 15 and me and my friends are Twin Peaks fans. My parents watched it when it was on and I purchased season 1 on dvd a few months ago. We have the second season on VHS, but the quality is horrible. We have begun a Twin Peaks fan base in my town, and I personally know around 100 kids at my high school that would love to have this dvd set. THERE IS AN AUDIENCE FOR THE 2ND SEASON. If the series was such an acclaimed series, why delay the release? I am also going to buy the pilot, because our tape was eaten by the VCR. I am begging you to release this dvd.
