Summary: Watered Down
Review: What happened to the John Waters I used to know? (with a longing tone in my voice). I too, like presumambly many other John Waters fans had high hopes for this film. Unfortunately though in the PC ninties this brand of humour falls short of anything less than deadpan slapstick shlock. Thanks to people like Madonna and Howard Stern, we as a soceity are numb and jaded to such antics like strippers "tea-bagging" their customers, gratuitous T & A, and profanity, profanity, profanity. Truth of the matter is..........we're not shocked. Try a new approach. It's a different time, and a new era. I will always love vintage John Waters flicks like "Desperate Living" and "Female Trouble" and of course "Polyester". You gotta love Peggy Grable. She was oh so neurotic (said in that famous Maryland accent). John Waters was much more witty and clever when he was "messed up" so to speak, along with his psycho troop of regulars (mink stole, Divine etc..) He is now gone way too corporate for me and is all too tame in his writing and directing styles. John! Down a bottle of cheap whisky and THEN TRY AND WRITE A SCREENPLAY. Do whatever it is you have to do to make a cool movie like you used to do.Here's how you know a movie is bad: As you are watching it, if you get up, let's say to grab a snack out of the fridge and *you don't press pause on the remote?* Then it's a bad movie. I didn't press pause when i watched Pecker. Does that tell you anything?

Summary: Pretty cheesy!
Review: I'm from Baltimore, but I've never been a big John Water's fan. I've never really been able to appreciate his brand of humor. As a result, I was not crazy about this cheesy film. It wasn't terrible, but I didn't find it funny. I did however, really appreciate the director's commentary available on the DVD, where he discussed the film locations and the stories behind the scenes. I watched the movie a second time just to hear it all, and I thought it was more entertaining than the movie. I'm sure John Water fans will like this movie, but most of us don't get it.

Summary: A big disappointment, hon!
Review: As a native Marylander and early John Waters fan, I had only moderate hopes for "Pecker," but even they were too high. It seems that at this point in his career, Waters needs to move on. His bad writing now seems contrived to imitate his early low-rent successes. You really can't go home again, but I believe with bigger budgets and presumably improved skills, Waters could still do wonderful, satiracle movies about Baltimore--and places like it. But "Pecker" seems to be the work of a lazy artist too willing to rest on his laurels. Too bad. There are some funny moments, but overall, the movie drags and sustains no momentum. And Ricci, Place and others are wasted on badly scripted and badly directed material.

Summary: JOHN WATERS IS BACK WITH A BANG!
Review: I JUST SAW this film and boy, i was impressed! its a story about an aspiring photographer from Baltimore always taking pics of his familyand everyone & everthing else in between.when 1 of his gets noticed by an art dealer & suddenly an overnight sensation, but with it comes aprice. What iloved about about this film was its straight to the point humor and great cast. Christina Ricci is great as Pecker's girlfriend & Brendan Sexton III was hilarious as the friend who always steals anything he can get his hands on. But the funniest character in the film was little crissy, the sugar-high little sister. but the funniest scene in the movie was when she is eating sugar out of the bag & Pecker sees her doing this & in order 2 get a picture of her, he tells her 2 say "sugar" 4 the camera & does this w/ sugar dribbling from her mouth (which i found pretty funny & gross at the same time.) so if liked any of John Waters's films (Cry-Baby & Serial Mom are my faves),into indie films, or comedy, then get off your butt,go 2 the nearest video store, pop it in the VCR, & be prepared to laugh your ass off. BELIEVE ME, I DIDN'T REGRET IT, & YOU WON'T EITHER, SO GO OUT & GET IT! A Cajun girl from Lafayette,Louisiana visiting & writing from Anaheim,California.

Summary: "Pecker" reflects John Waters' own career.
Review: Waters has mellowed in his maturity, as this film proves. He does not approach the raunchiness of his early work, and "Pecker" seems more than a little autobiographical. Like his leading character, Waters was a truly original artist at the beginning of his career, working outside the mainstream and making films which pleased himself. With commercial success, his films gradually became less original and more generic, just as Pecker finds that, after his success, his photos are no longer creative. In the end, Pecker takes action, turning his back on his new-found popularity and returning to his roots. Waters has given his title character more courage than he himself has, for he has yet to return to his own roots with a truly original work. Even with help from Mary Kay Place and Martha Plimpton, "Pecker" is sunk by the performances of its two leads. Christina Ricci seems incapable of portraying any emotion other than boredom, and her perpetual smirk and monotonous delivery wears thin. Edward Furlong is even worse; he wanders aimlessly through this movie with no clue how to portray his character or even how to deliver dialogue which sounds natural. Still, "Pecker" has many moments reminiscent of the best of Waters, including the hilarious fashion shoot, where a scene-stealer named R. Scott Williams utters the next catch-phrase to sweep the country: "EVERYBODY wants to be in Vogue!"

Summary: Watch this movie only if you have nothing better to do
Review: This movie seemed too long and boring. There were some funny parts, but only very few. Iwouldn't recommend buying this tape. If you are really bored, just go rent one. This has to be one of the worst movie I saw this year. Don't buy this tape.

Summary: Funny and sweet for John Waters!
Review: Having seen most of John Waters movies, I was struck by how nice this film was. All the tacky Baltimore touches were included, the fat people, the misfits, the misguided parents, yet Waters capured humor in a new way. Pecker is a good movie and a "must see" for people who know or want to know the "real" Baltimore through Waters eyes!

Review: finally, john waters has returned with a film reminiscent of desperate living, poyester, female trouble etc. crybaby and hairspray were good, but seriel mom blew big chunks. pecker captures all the elements that make waters' movies so great--dysfunctional families, comedy, and charm city. i only wish he had chosen someone other than christina ricci to play pecker's girlfriend. she is so very annoying and not genuine.

Summary: Watered-down Waters
Review: What a disappointment. Even the usually luscious Christina Ricci seems lost in this flick which, while it has its moments, is definitely not up to par with Waters' usually low standards. Having said that, there are some genuinely funny scenes in this movie, but nothing to compare with other Waters gems such as Crybaby and Hairspray. My advice (FWIW)--rent it, don't buy it.

Review: I don't think I've seen one John Waters film that hasn't pleased me. Some of my friends don't agree with me about his work, but this one got most of them laughimg.....a lot!!!! Another round of applause for John Waters please.
