Review: This was one of the most disturbing, most bizarre films that I have ever seen. It totally explores the evils in the world, and how society tries to deal with all of it. It is very shocking and graphic, and it does get its point across. The art direction, and acting is all wonderful, and the soundtrack and score is also a plus. This film will definitely make you think. The only reason that I gave this film three stars instead of five is because of the strong rape scene at the beginning that is nearly unwatchable. There was also a heavy reliance on nudity, and this could have also been toned down a bit. Other than that, it was a good film for mature viewers. MATURE being the key word here. Not for children or teens.

Recommended, but with heavy warning.

Review: brilliant... brilliant! one of, if not THE, best movie ever made, by one of, if not THE best director who ever lived. the photography is amazing, and includes tecniques that were never before seen on the big screen - such as filming from the hero/subject's point of view. the sharp cuts and strong colors that are used empathize the intensity of the film, and kubrick is constently mocking the viewers by playing with their feeling concerning the main character - Alex - who is at first the vilain and at the end the innocent, helpless victim used and abused by society. the cinical message that the movie tries to pass on is cristal clear and relevant to the time when it was published. it is also a message very much empathized by the book - which is by the way terrible and written with the skill of my three-year-old brother. kubrick generally critisizes the development of a cold, rottong society that won't possibly survive for long. in conclusion, the movie it the work of a true genius.

Summary: Food for thought
Review: I prefer watching a movie which is loved or hated by people. Usually, when a movie is popular with everyone, you tend to watch it with high expectations which might leave you disappointed. But when a movie receives such conflicting reviews, one can watch it with an open mind.

Well, I actually found the first half an hour of the movie very negative. It portrays rape and violence, not in a graphic way, but in an effective way which still leaves you disgusted. However, even though Kubrick wants to shock us, I don't think he goes overboard. Obviously, this movie would send negative messages to an inappropriate audience, possibly even to an eighteen year old, but let's face it ... this movie is strictly for a mature audience. If all movies had to be U we'd only be watching kids' stuff for heavens' sake!

Now the movie portrays the story of a criminal: a thief, a rapist, a murderer. He is finally incarcerated due to the betrayal of his 'friends'. After two years in jail he offers himself as a guinea pig to a government experiment and released. However, for the outside world, he's still the criminal he was before. And for his victims it's now payback time. By the end of the movie, our character is finally also victim to political manipulation. Now what most negative reviews say is 'The movie's message is negative ... meaning that we can't cure criminals' or 'The movie doesn't offer a solution to the problem of criminality, rather it implies there is no real solution'. However, the movie's intention was never that of coming up with a solution. The movie is simply the perfect metaphor of a corrupt society. Obviously, many parts of the movie are subject to interpretation. However, many negative reviewers here seem to mistake their interpretation with pure facts.

This movie is the American Beauty of the seventies. It's intention is that of portraying a stark reality not of offering a solution. Obviously, this was a shock for the seventies and it is even more crude than American Beauty. However, it also provides FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

Apart from that, this movie has the Kubrick stamp on it ... that emotionless movie set which is so typical of him. And obviously, his crude way of expressing himself.

I'll give this movie four stars, not because it isn't a good movie, but because it's not a feel-good movie ... hence i can't really say I enjoyed it. Definitely not for a Friday evening in front of the telly. But it's thought-provoking just the same. It's a must-see movie for any mature philosophic brain.

Summary: A Stunning Masterpiece
Review: This movie is on my top ten list. Though I hated "2001" and "Eyes Wide Shut", This is one of those Kubrik films that I
love ( along with "Dr. Strangelove and "The Shining"). Kubrik demonstrates his genious wonderfully with stunning visuals, memorable diologue, and artistic pacing. Clearly one of the greatest films of all time. The story clashes with it's subject matter and the humerous satire that make the film all the more powerful. Few movies leave this much of an impact through the decades.

Summary: Long Goodbye
Review: This atrocious film began the 30 year decline that sadly closed out the career of Stanley Kubrick. Artistically burned out after completing "Dr. Strangelove" and "2001", Kubrick wanted to film a biography of Napoleon, but was balked by a lack of financing. Not a man who let go of an obsession easily, he marked time over the next three decades by turning out five movies totally devoid of the committment he had shown in his early work.The author of the original novel, Anthony Burgess, was so sickened by Kubrick's mangled film that he eventually repudiated the book entirely, as well he might. The suggestion that psychopaths should be allowed to exercise their free will to wreak havoc on society is so transparently idiotic nobody can take it seriously. Combined with the terrible acting, cheap sets, and relentless vulgarity and misogyny, the result is about as ugly as moviemaking gets.

Summary: One of Stanley Kubrick's best
Review: I love this movie and consider it to be one of Stanley Kubrick's best movie, following 2001 and The Shining. The heart of this movie comes from the symbolism and visuals, with a unique story. If you like Stanley Kubrick movies, or science fiction movies in general, give this a try.
As a DVD, the disc is pretty bare, only including the theatrical trailer. The sound and picture quality is top rate.

Summary: A Kubrick gem gone to hell
Review: I bought A Clockwork Orange not really knowing what to expect. My dad had reccomended it to me and I liked Stanley Kubrick's other work (The Shining) and it sounded interesting. After viewing it, I was a little harsh on it, a little disgusting at the content it presented, but after thinking about it, I realized I loved it. Do beware: this movie is not for everyone...I don't know how it got only an R rating, it should be X or NC-17. That said, I would like to move onto the actual DVD review.

I am not too happy with the Stanley Kubrick Collection because frankly...I think it's [weak]. The menus are poor and unimaginative, the extras are skimpy, the packaging is weak (especially on The Shining.) Please come out with a new collection and forget about what Kubrick's wishes were to have some of his movies available only in fullscreen (cough, cough...The Shining again) and come out with some big bulky special editions, because each of his movies deserves it. Also I might add, that while I was taking the many safety stickers off of this movie, some pictures from the back peeled off! I must say that I am not too pleased with this outrage. FIX THIS!

Review: A clockwork orange is my all time favorite movie and to my opinion it's the greatest movie of all time too even though with some flaws

1.left out numerous scenes from the book that could have obviously have been done and easily too.

2.left out the most important thing... the ending(the real ending)sanley(r.i.p) doing that to the movie I think totally disrespected burgess(r.i.p) and his genious book.

To me I think if those seen were created then the movie would have been more put together than it already was. But I geuss me wining over not gonna do anything on account of they're both dead and so I qoute burgess "life is terrible"

Summary: Pro-violence?
Review: For those who condemn this movie for being pro-violence, pro-rape, let me ask you something: Did you even watch the movie? Do you think war movies are pro-violence simply because they depict acts of cruelty?

Comments about A Clockwork Orange advocating violence come from the type of people who are either too superficial to look past surfaces or who only caught parts of the movie because they were too busy making fun of the "losers" watching it. Come on, don't be that ignorant. Most scenes were either dark or satirical. The violent scenes were by no means advocating the subject matter. Going into the film, you should be educated enough to realize that rape and violence are harsh subjects, but they're also harsh realities. This movie is trying to make people aware of the future we may face (and the times we're already in), particularly if governments continue to ignore domestic issues or rely on quick fixes and focus solely on preserving political image and making money. The only really physically violent scenes are in the opening quarter of the film, and while they are disturbing, they are completely necessary for the story. If you can get through the beginning, the rest of the film is the most rewarding in my opinion. Several sociological issues will be raised, and you'll have to think about them on your own. This film isn't cut and dry, so without looking too far it may be easy for some to categorize it as amoral, but... immoral? Give me a break. I suggest watching it again before making such shallow judgments.

After reading this review, I'm sure by some I'll just be considered another geeky bitter guy who can't get a date and just loves violent cult films because "I love seeing people suffer."

By the way, I recently watched this with my girlfriend. She loved it.

Summary: Stuck in my mind for much too long
Review: I've never watched a movie that opened up so many questions for me as this one. I watched it on what one could call a lazy Saturday afternoon (!), but it soon was changed into something more than that. I just couldn't stop thinking about the movie, not the next day, nor for the week after that. I still wonder about its whole theme, its visual qualities, etc.

I agree, watching it on a Saturday afternoon is probably not the most ideal time... and watching it with someone who is offended at nudity (as I watched it with) isn't recommended, either. The scenes depicted within are not the nicest things to watch, even 30 years after they were originally filmed and pop culture has gotten more rowdy.

If you want to be totally perplexed to a movie, watch this.
