Rating: Summary: Quite possibly the best DVD set so far! Review: Here we have two of John Waters' best films, "Desperate Living", and "Polyester".Desperate living is one of the funniest movies ever made with Mink Stole as the unforgetable Peggy who, with help from her 300 pound maid Grizelda, kills her husband and escapes to the horrible town of Mortville where she meets a lot of interesting people. Then we have Polyester with the wonderful Divine. This is the best true life story ever. Francine's family is completely screwed up, her kids are delinquints, her husband is a porn propriater, and her own mother hates her...but her life is about to change.
Rating: Summary: Waters does THE best commentaries Review: I have all of John Waters' films released on DVD so far (I can't wait for Pink Flamingos and Female Trouble) and I must say that, in my opinion, John Waters does the funniest, most insightful audio commentaries on DVD of any I've heard. I also like the fact that the menus for the three 2-disc sets all have similar looking menus, which are awesome. It's also cool to finally have an Odorama card with this set, which furthered the enjoyment of Polyester, in which Divine gives one of his best performances playing the victim (unlike his previous films with John Waters).
Rating: Summary: Retarded and lame (desperate living only) Review: I know it's supposed to be bad, but I didn't know it was supposed to be useless. Nevermind the amateurish everything, that's fine, it just wasn't funny (maybe a line here or there). Not inspired just dumb, keep your cult. John Waters still seems like a great guy though.
Rating: Summary: Do you have taste? Review: I'd rather be held hostage in a septic tank than ever sit through this horrible mess again. A real test of whether someone has any taste. I only recommend this to the most ghetto unfabulous people who live on Cherry street.
Rating: Summary: Waters on the Rise! Review: If anybody is a John Waters fan then they know how hard it can be to find some of his movies in the best prints. I spent two years looking for a good copy of Female Trouble, and I spent months looking for Mondo Trasho and Desprate Living. And while I don't see Mondo Trasho on sale in DVD I do Desprate Living. This DVD collection (VOL.2 in whats so far a 3 volume collection) is good. It's good because you finally get these movies in their best print, and you get subtitles. What really gives them a kick is the COMMENTARY. 1.Desprate Living - This is Waters most outragous film, maybe not in shock value but in story and plot it rises above even Female Trouble. This is a great print, though it's in MONO, but who REALLY cares. The only problem was the commentary. They had Liz Renay give a half and half commentary with WATERS. All we learned from her was that she loved HERSELF. (Well she is an actress.) I wanted to hear WATERS insite, not the past life of a nowhere star. But you take what you get when you want it. 2.Polyester - This one was great it made up for the sad tale of Liz Renay's amazingly nothing life. WE GET THE ODORAMA CARD! And the commentary is GREAT because it's 100 percent WATERS. We also get a stero and WIDESCREEN version of the film. This DVD would have been worth the 20 odd bucks alone, but then the other one would have only been worth 10, do it's a good marketing plan. With the up coming Female Trouble/Pink Flamingos DVD I'm hoping NEW LINE sees the money that can be made and brings us MONDO TRASHO/MULTIPLE MANIACS and CRY BABY/CECIL B. DEMENTED. Who knows, even though CECIL was made under a different company I'm sure a deal can be worked out.
Rating: Summary: Francine Fishpaw--Love Goddess Review: If you've never seen a John Waters film, this is a good place to start, and I'll admit it is my personal favourite."Polyester" is the story of Francine Fishpaw (played by Divine) and her dysfunctional family. Francine has a lecherous, hairpiece-wearing husband who will do anything (and I mean ANYTHING) to advertise the pornography he delights in showing at his local cinema. Francine's daughter is a nymphomaniac disco-dolly, and Francine's son is a toe-sucking assault artist. Added to Francine's problems is her grasping, spiteful domineering mother who delights in torturing Francine by constant references to her daughter's weight and appetite. There are two rays of hope in Francine's pathetic life--Queen Carlotta (an eccentic millionairess) and Todd Tommorrow--the blond, blue-eyed god who drops into Francine's lap during her darkest hour. But is Todd all that he seems?...... Remember the words of Mr Waters: "Bad taste is a terrible thing to waste."
Rating: Summary: Some people just don't get it!! Review: John Waters' films are outrageous, disgusting and hysterically funny! That's the point! Don't expect academy award winning peformances, scripts or cinematography. Expect the unexpected, open your mind and enjoy an alternative point of view. Barry Levinson and John Waters are the cinema-laureates of Baltimore. They portray two very different perspectives; both are accurate!!

Rating: Summary: Polyester is the one of the best films ever made! Review: Just buy the DVD and see for yourself. Hope it comes with the scratch and sniff card
Rating: Summary: edith massey and those sets! Review: nuff has been said about polyester. as for desperate living; it ranks with female troubles. massey makes you forget divine (not an easy thing to do) and the visual look of the film stands with the look of both ulmer's the black cat and cocteau's blood of a poet. i genuflect to the waters of both female trouble and desperate living.
