Review: I enjoyed this movie so much it was the first one I purchased when I decided to get a DVD player! (In fact, I ordered it before I even got the player!) This movie is thoroughly original! Not only is it fun, but it also has a subtle message about the mistakes we make when we decide that "the grass is greener on the other side of the fence" and how it is best just to be yourself. I do agree with one reviewer who mentioned that some of the monsters might be a wee bit scary to very small children, but if you keep watching you will find that they are all very good natured and just out for a bit of fun. The songs in this one are great. I don't really care for musicals most of the time, but the songs were all quirky and charming.(Danny Elfman has surpassed all he has ever done in Oingo Boingo since he started writing film scores.) This is an excellent family movie that people of all ages will completely enjoy!
P.S. One of the other reviewers was right! The Special Edition version of this movie does leave out the mayor's line "Wait, we haven't given out the prizes yet!". This is still a good version if you are a big fan of the film. Plus, Burton's early work "Vincent" (included on this disc)is completely adorable!

Summary: An astonishing film for the eyes
Review: If you are one of those fortunate people who never heard anything about this movie I'm about to do you a favor. I'm not going to describe it. I want you to experience this movie for yourself. I first saw "The Nightmare Before Christmas" in theaters during October of 1993. I began watching this movie knowing absolutely nothing about it. In fact, I made an effort not to learn anything about it. This was an advantage, because what I saw and heard was unlike anything I had ever seen before.The only thing I will say about this film is the music. It's by Danny Elfman--Tim Burton's film composer and the former lead singer of Oingo Boingo. I've been a Danny Elfman fan for years. He has done some fantastic songs and motion picture scores. For "The Nightmare Before Christmas" he also created and performed several songs. It was a real joy to hear Danny Elfman sing again. Trust me on this one. This film is a real treat for the eyes, and a visually imaginative piece of work.

Summary: A wonderful, imaginative animated musical
Review: This film caught me by surprise. Although I enjoy animated movies I am not a huge buff. I decided to see this one because it was done by Tim Burton, who directed Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow. This is his best film to date. It manifests Burton's usual creativity and eccentricity. The vignettes of Halloween town and Christmas town are awesome. The music won me over compeltely. Every song is entrancing and beautiful, the characters are likeable and sweet. The special edition DVD is awesome, delivering great picture and sound as well as a whole lot of extras, including deleted scenes, etc.

Summary: Incredible Film, So-so DVD
Review: Don't get me wrong, NMBC is one of the greatest films of all time. It is beautifully shot, wonderfully dark, and Danny Elfman's beautiful singing voice makes Jack come alive. My one complaint is with the DVD transfer. While they have included great extras like "vincent," and the picture quality is wonderful, there is a sound defect. The Mayor's line, "Wait, we haven't given out the prizes yet," is MISSING. Wonderful film, Tim Burton is a genious, but the transfer leaves something to be desired.

Summary: I love that Jack Skellington
Review: This is a delightful film about a misunderstood character who just wants to create a good time for everybody, but unwillingly ends up destroying everything. The character is Jack Skellington. As mayor of Pumpkin Town (in the land of Halloween) he has gotten tired of his everyday routine and the annual celebration of Halloween no longer gives him any thrills (it's the same year in and year out for him). So in order to spice up his life he decides to take over Christmas. Henry Selick might be the director of this film, but it's clear that he's gone to great length in staying with producer Tim Burton's original vision for the film (this has been a pet-project of Burton ever since his days at Disney). This film is as Burton-esque as BEETLEJUICE, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS and BATMAN RETURNS (and everything else that Burton has done). And Danny Elfman (of course) provides a great score for this film (I highly recommend the soundtrack CD). Plus (if you're a true Burton fan) you'll be happy to know that the producers of this disc has chosen to include two of Burton's earliest projects (which he did while working for Disney as an animator): the lovely VINCENT and the James Whale tribute FRANKENWEENIE are both on this disc!

Review: TNBC is most likely the most intelligent and creative display of imagination ever caught on film. tim burton pulled off this strange tale beautifully, using both animation and creativity to set the backround and forefront for his epic masterpiece.the main character, jacks feelings and words describe pain, sorrow, need, anger, wonder, and happiness.i strongly suggest buying or renting this movie as soon as possible if you havent already done so.its a classic

Summary: One of the greatest movies ever made
Review: The Nightmare Before Christmas may not be for everyone. Themes that include torturing Santa Claus, toys that assault children, and the absolute removal of all religious connotation to two very religious holidays may raise some objections. That said, I think it is one of the greatest movies ever made. Danny Elfman's score is a masterpiece, Henry Selick's mastery of stop motion animation is in its element here, and although Tim Burton did not direct the film, its got his signature all over it. Jack Skellington's image has snuck its way into films by both Burton and Selick simply because they felt the final product was the perfect execution of a dream. The more I watch this movie, the more I understand the sentiment. I fell in love with this movie when I first saw it in '93. My son fell in love with it six years later when he was 3. A little young to be watching a movie with the aforementioned themes? I really don't think so. As a parent, I keep my child away from television or films that encompass any degree of violence (the absolute worst he sees is Toy Story; I cringe whenever Buzz and Woody start swinging at each other). Yet I really don't find anything in Nightmare objectionable; Jack's motivations are nothing but good-natured, and the images of torture and assault are really nothing more than innocent expressions of the inhabitants of Halloween Town (they'd hardly be out of place on Halloween). And that's really what the ultimate message of the story is: Hold on to your dreams, but don't lose sight of who you are or where you came from. As I said, my son loves the movie, which means I've now seen it well over a hundred times. I still love watching it.
