Summary: What a shame, this is pretty lame
Review: This is not a good movie. It does not have a moral. It has a bad beginning and a bad end.
Tha amimation is good, but the rest: blah. The moviemakers totally copied Pixar's "A Bug's Life", which is good movie and makes sense. THIS, on the other hand, does not make sense whatsoever. Here's what happens: An ant wants to be different from the rest of the colony and likes this creepy looking girl ant so he joins an ant army to see her. Then they go into a pointless battle that has nothing to do with the movie.
Then they somehow get lost together and go on this "big adventure" to go back to the other ants. Then they overthrow their leader and have a big party. Whoopee. Not a good story. The whole movie seems to last five minutes.
And when you finish watching the movie, you figure out that you've learned nothing. Like I said, there's no moral.
And to top it all off, it has violence on some language.
So overall, this is a pretty lame movie. You'd be better off buying "A Bug's Life" instead.

Summary: funny
Review: this is really a woody allen film disguised as a kids' flic. the humor is trademark allen, and the main character is nothing but a poorly disguised, still neurotic, six-legged insect version of the wood man. the story follows the formulaic lines of boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy kidnaps girl, and they live happily ever after. but because it's packaged in the animated form, it's fresh and charming. a good film, especially for big kids! some of the humor might be lost on small ones.

Summary: I did not like this movie
Review: ... In this movie I want to take out a can of RAID. The ants were ugly and nightmarish. The animation was good. But the way the movie was presented turned me off. There are scenes, especially the decapitation scene, that would give small children nightmares. This film is definately not for small children. The movie even made me squimish. Plus I do not like Woody Allen. He always plays a wimpy, whinny nuerotic. Hearing woody Allen's voice just grates on my nerves. I gave the movie two stars instead of one because the animation was good.

Summary: Good
Review: This movie is great, except one problem...Woody Allen usually directs movies starring him sleeping with beautiful wonen, instead he plays a worker ant who switches places with his friend who works as a soilder ant, and my brother thinks Sylvester Stallone is creepy, and Stallone plays Z's (the worker ant's) friend. I give it a *** (3 out of 5) and it should be rated PG for action sequences and crude humor.

Summary: Good Movie - surprised my expectations
Review: I never checked this movie out before because I thought it to be a rip off of "A Bug's Life". Also I am no fan of Woody Allen.
I caught parts of this movie on television and immediately decided to buy it. This movie has an original storyline and is nothing like "A Bug's Life" except that they are both about insects.
This is a good movie for adults and children to watch and has a star cast. I especially liked Sylvester Stallone's charecter. The movie slowly builds to a climax and keeps you interested storywise and with its graphical view of this ant colony's world. I will stop here because this movie is best if you haven't been filled in on the story.

Summary: Another great performance by Woody Allen!!
Review: This movie is great for kids and adults. Woody Allen's vocabulary might be slightly beyond a kid, but you don't need to get every word to realize how great this movie is. Just the concept of Woody Allen being an "utterly insignificant" worker ant in "a family of 5 million" is funny to begin with. The movie also touches on the bizarre interaction of ants and humans from the ant's POV, which I must note is quite terrifying. Then you have Woody delivering his lines through the mouth of "Z" the ant. This is just a hoot because as Z is marching into battle he's suggesting to a fellow soldier how they should instead "influence their political process with campaign controbutions." If you haven't seen Antz, you haven't lived life to the fullest!

Summary: This is clearly the superior film
Review: I had the chance to watch "A bugs life" and "Antz" at the same day, and so I was able to compare the two films, the CG but also the story.

First of, when seeing the two films in cinema back when they were released, I thought that "A bugs life" was a little better from a CG (computer graphics) point of view.
But now that I've seen the two DVDs, I'm absolutely sure that PDI has created a film that looks a lot better than Pixar's "A bugs life". First of, look carefully at how the facial features and the mouth of the antz and other insects are animated. It's just amazing and very life-like. The fact that the ants have teeth (which is pretty funny by the way) also adds a lot to the quality of their facial expressions (the ants in "A bugs life have teeth, too).
Then, the ants in "Antz" are brown while the ants in "A bugs life" are blue (???). Also, everything in Antz has a lot more detail than it has in "A bugs life".

Anyway, CG might be one part, but the story is clearly more important...
AntZ has a very unique story, which is funny but also very clever. "A bugs life" on the other hand has a very ordinary story, very typical for a kids movie but it comes nowhere near the quality of other Disney movies like Mulan. It is funny at times, but the story is neither deep nor is it especially smart.

And last but not least, when I watched AntZ in the cinema back when it was released, there was a little kid and his mum sitting next to me. During the battle scene, the kid asked his mum "are they dead" (pointing at the dead ant bodies) and the mum said "no, they're just sleeping".
SO: This is definitely not a kids movie. It has been rated PG for obvious reasons. Don't let the cute look fool you into thinking this film is suitable for your kids. And even if they're not shocked by the depictions of violence, they will most definitely not get what the story is all about.

Oh, and about the voice actingt: Couldn't have been better. At times, I wasn't so sure if Sharon Stone was the right actress to dub the princess, but even Silvester Stalone does a good job here...

So go and see that movie... don't think of it as a kids movie, thing of it as an adult movie that not only tells a story but that also should make you think. Don't think of ants, think of the people around you.

Summary: They should've let the general destroy this movie!
Review: This is an embarrasment to kids' films!Annoying ants get on your nerves by whining and sniveling, one irritating ant cusses 4 times in a row and the general grates on your nerves. There's even an embarrasment to high-class Biritsh people as we see a couple of stereotyped "high-class"wasps who are no more than the usual stereotyped rich people. This film is so bad that you'll wish the general destroyed this lackluster excuse for a movie. If you want something about bugs, get "Bug's life"instead.Don't waste your money on "Antz".
