Rating: Summary: NO ANT IS AN ISLAND Review: One has to admire the technical wizardry of this CGI animated film. While ANTZ is not classic material, it still has a moralistic theme: individuality as opposed to conformity. The movie employs some great actors to give voice to the ants and other assorted creatures. Woody Allen as Z is typical Woody, but he propels the story nicely; Sharon Stone gives a droll life to the haughty princess; Anne Bancroft is regal as the Queen; Gene Hackman is stiff, abrasive and effective as General Mandible; Sylvester Stallone gives muscle to his role as the soldier ant Weaver; Jennifer Lopez is slyly sultry as Azteca, a worker ant who falls for Weaver; Dan Ackyroyd and Jane Curtin are briefly seen as a couple of bees; and Danny Glover is a crusty old soldier ant who takes Z under his wings.
The movie is a little violent and has some strong language, so I wouldn't recommend it for younger kidz, but for teens and discriminating adults, ANTZ is an entertaining and extremely well done film.
Rating: Summary: An underrated animated classic on a great DVD! Review:
This is the story of a Ant named "Z" ( voiced by Woody Allen) who has problems with life in the colony in Central Park New York City, until one day he meets the beautiful princess Bala ( Sharon Stone)walks into his life and he falls in love with. Z decides to switch places with his best soldier friend "Weaver" ( Sylvester Stallone) for a day leads him on adventures from being a false war hero from a Termite war to having Bala with him to search for a fabled city called " Insectopia" then to face with the sinister General Mandible ( Gene Hackman).
A brilliant CGI animated comedy that is a total triumph from 1998 and is Dreamworks's first CGI animated movie! There are also the voices of Jennifer Lopez, Christopher Walken, Dan Ackroyd, Jane Curtin and Anne Bancroft that provide co-stars, the graphics are totally convicing even on looking from the ants's point of view of the world from their perspectvie with a great soundtrack.
The DVD's perfection with quality sound & picture and the extras are also nice such as audio commentary, three featurettes, Trailer, TV Spots, production notes and Cast & crew bio.
A must have for animation DVD collectors!
Rating: Summary: THE PERFECT MOVIE FOR WOODY ALLEN Review: I always thoght of Woody Allen as small and this part is perfect for him. In this fine animation you can feel the characters through their voice .If you close your eyes you would think you are in a sophisticated comedy set in Manhattan. Its a classic Allen film- light, very funny, dramatic and suspensfull.Because it is animated and about a novel species,it fells suprisingly fresh and innovative as well as familiar and insightful.
Rating: Summary: Antz Review: This movie, yes is violent, they curse, and they talk about many aspects of life that adults or kids would not understand. But this movie can show the the benefits of autonomy and the ill effects of Homogeny. That this whole ant colony is being run by a stubborn general who wants to take over the colony, but rebuilding his own. All the antz, when they are born, have a jobb already. They are either a worker or they are a soldier. They have no choice, their individuality is taken away from them immeditatly. This shows they have no freedom also to do what they want about the colony. They do have rations which is essentially their source of daily break food. When Azteca's rations were taken away for the day, that was her food. They can just take away from the antz whenever they wanted. Woody allen did a tremendous job on how to be a strange ant. His character Z was a different from any other ant in the whole movie. Z had ideas, he had emotion, he knew what he wanted to do and he went for it. Gene Hackman playing as the ruler of this colony because the Queen did not really do anything in the movie except just talk about getting her daughter back. The general was coming up with an idea to restart a knew colony using princess Bala, the Queen's daughter to start a knew colony. His plans was to have all the antz killed except all the soldiers. He was trying to make his own homegeny. If you looked closley through out the movie, everyone did the same thing. They showed where the all the antz danced a in a syncranized way. Where is this review leading too of Antz. This review is to show that if you buy the movie antz, you have to understand the backround of why this movie was made. The backround of this movie is if you ever read the book Balzac and the little Chinese Seamtress that this movie relates to it. Balzac is about the cultural revolution in China. How do the characters relate? The gereral of the antz is Chairman Moa. Chairman Moa was the ruler of China during the revolution. He wanted everything his way, by having everyone do the same thing, and everyone was sent to the country side, and everyone was opressed by the government. Moa took all these ideas and wayz of thinking away from the people of China, because he wanted to be in complete control. Antz the movie shows just how the cultural revolution was during that time. THis movie is for learning and not for enjoyment lol. Well it is for enjoyment, but not for kidz.
Rating: Summary: A Review Review: Just a note to the reviewer below me, Antz was produced by Dreamworks, wich is a privately held company, not by Disney-Pixar
Rating: Summary: why cant disney-pixar spell right? Review: this is a very intense movie full of govermental philosophies and violence.the kids probably wont understand most of what is being said.the violence is a bit ,much too.kids dont need to see small babies nearly being crushed and the like.the story is all about a colony of ants[with a s]who work all year long gathering food.then the grasshoppers come and steal it.well,a resistence is formed in defiance of this tyranny.one part involves the main bad guy grasshopper chopper screaming into the camera i will kill you!do you want your child screaming this at people when he or she is upset?didnt think so.i think its too scary for small kids.maybe the ones in the 7 or so and up catagory.dont belive the hype!most of the new disney movies are garbage.excluding the toy story set, finding nemo and lilo and stitch.the message here is if youve got the numbers you can overpower the man in charge.well the hippies tried that and now theyre all accountants and lawyers just like america told them to.so dont belive that.change changes when change wants too.i heard that none of the 1000s of faces are exactly alike on the ants.thats probably a load of crap just like this pathetic movie!
Rating: Summary: Jim Haven Review: While I found this movie epic, well written and animated, there are def mature subjects that some kids may not be able to understand. That said, this has a PG rating, meaning Parental Guidence in reccomended. Comparing it to A Bugs Life, Rated G doesn't make any sense, other than if you are talking strictly animation, and even then they both accomplish what they set out to do according to their target audience.
This is a Great Film and something that should be socially ranked right up there with Watership Down.
Rating: Summary: NOT FOR KIDS Review: I bought this for my kids and I was NOT happy when I heard cuss words and watched this video. Adults may like this video but I WOULD NOT ever reccomend it for kids.
