Summary: Pure Genius!
Review: This is the most risky, creative, hilarious show ever. The first season is classic and is definitely worth the buy.

Writing makes or breaks a show, and along with The Simpsons and King of the Hill, the writing in South Park is pure genius.

There is some minor popping noise on the first and second discs in the three disc set, but it is very minor and is not nearly enough to justify not buying this collection.

Highly recommended!

Summary: Classic!
Review: While Warner Bros. treatment of the first season is not too good, the season itself is a classic. This is the season that introduces such now famous characters as Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny, Mr. Garrison, Mr. Hat, Wendy Testaburger, Chef, the Mayor, Uncle Jimbo, Ned, and, of course, Mrs. Catrman. Unlike such animated shows as "The Simpsons," the first season of South Park pretty much gets everything right on the first time and lays out all the characters the way they would be for the rest of the series. Mr. Garrison is a really lousy teacher; Chef sings songs about making love to really beautiful woman; Cartman is fat, racist, and foul moutched, and Mrs. Cartman is a dirty sl*t. Several classics are stored withing this collection. SOme of my fsvorites are "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride," "Starvin' Marvin," "Tom's Rhinoplasty," and "Mecha-Streisand." All the episodes begin with the same introductions found in the best-of collections, and they are freaking hilarious. Six have Trey and Matt in "fireside chats," six have them as cowboys on a kid's show, and one has them as entertainers at a retirement home. My favorite are the "fireside chats" with the changing dog and Trey and Matt making faces at eachother.

All the episode's found in season one are:

Cartman Gets An Anal Probe

Volcano

Weight Gain 4000

Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride

An Elephant Makes Love To A Pig

Death

Pinkeye

Starvin' Marvin

Mr. Hankey, The Christmas Poo

Damien

Tom's Rhinoplasty

Mecha-Streisand

Catrman's Mom Is A Dirty Sl*t

Warner Bros. hasn't given very good treatment to this series. The picture is fine and the sound is good, but there aren't many special features. Trey and Matt recorded commentaries for all the episodes but Warner decided to act like morons and remove them from the set. I'm not shelling out extra cash for the commentaries and wish they had just been put into this set. If only South Park could be owned by New Line or Fox.

Anyway, South Park is a great show but Warner has given lazy treatment to it. I give it five stars for the wonderful program inside, and not for the lousy treatment Warner has given it.

Show: 5 stars

DVD: 2 and a half stars.

Summary: I believe in Mr. Hankey!
Review: The classic first season of South Park finally hits DVD. This 3 disc set contains South Park in its shocking roots, and everyone's favorites are here. You wonder where creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone come up with this stuff, as you'll see Cartman fart fire, an elephant make love to a pig, a gay dog,and a piece of talking poo that saves Christmas. Oh yeah, Barbara Streissand storms the town and Jesus and Satan duke it out. It's the unusual things like this that made the first season of the series so shocking, so memorable, and so hilarious. It's not "The Simpsons" or anything, but it's definitely the bravest and most creative series and this first season proves that.

Summary: Jesus Christ what a dissapointment
Review: Ok look, South Park is one of the best animated series ever. Unfortunately I can't see it on tv cause i'm from Greece! So what do I do? I buy the Dvd. WRONG!!! Why not? Cause the quality totally [stinks]!
1)Episodes that are supposed to be on one dvd are on the next!
2)Worst sound quality you'll ever get! Clicks and pops everywere!!
3)The image is just unacceptable for an animated series.(one would expect it to be crystal clear)!!!
4)13 episodes of 20 min each equals 260 min or 4 hrs and something. Too many dvd's!!!!
5)The extras are of no interest! except the SP clips!!!!!

Result=Don't buy it!!
I don't know how the english version looks or sounds like but it can't be worst!!
Save yourself trouble and money, but hey! keep watching SP cause it's out of this world!

Summary: Terrible Ripoff
Review: The show itself is brilliant. It's the opposite of a children's lullabye, a view of modern life as hell seen through the eyes of children.

As to this package - it's an incredible ripoff. The episodes' audio tracks are full of pops and cracks that distract from the viewing. The picture is generally pretty good, but with some notable flaws.

The audio flaws are completely ridiculous. I'm not a p[erfectionist - but these are genuinely distracting. Anyone with a copy of Wave Editor could have removed them and produced something better than what's been distributed here. You wouldn't think a major corporation would cynically throw a highly flawed version of these cartoons out to the public in a "complete" set like this. But they did it. Many consumers have returned their set to the store as defective, only to learn when they play their second copy that the discs were actually distributed in this highly defective state.

The extras are far from all that. You'll watch them once, then never again. Meanwhile it's obvious and inevitable that someone, someday, will put this first season out correctly, and probably with some audio commentary (which Trey and Matt actually recorded for these discs, but which is not provided here). In the meantime, this exists as a gigantic ripoff.

Summary: South Park is the best show on Comedy Central
Review: Hi. This season one dvd package is great. The only reason I gave this four stars instead of five is because there are audio problems on it, like it sounds where it skips/buffed and there are minor video problems on it where the screen becomes pixelated and it is an annoyance. Ohh well, South Park is still great.

Summary: Full season.......STOP CRYING!
Review: Glad to finally get a knock at the full season on DVD. Up until this release you could only get them 3 - 4 episodes at a time. The quality of the DVD isn't much better than cable TV, however its South Park and crazy as H***.

P.S. If your reviewing this DVD don't give it 1 star because it is a poor transfer or doesn't have any special features. All your doing is bringing the overall rating down for South Park in general. Rate it by the quality of the show and put a footnote in your review explaining the downside of the DVD.I mean really....look at the rating South Park is getting because of a few unhappy little kids. It goes from 3 to 3 1/2. After all, would you want to be judged your whole life by the clothes you wore only one day? People are getting way too spoiled, it's only a cartoon. What did you expect The Animatrix? If you want big features/effects go with a hollywood film. This release only rates a 4, but I'm giving it five for the "south park" fans that gave it 1. If you CLAIM to be a South Park fan and gave this one (or two) stars because you aren't happy with the DVD then perhaps Power Puff Girls is more your speed.

(too many spoiled brats pasted in front of the T.V. these days, I bet most of you are the same people who pay thirty dollars for Anime that has three episodes equal to about 30 mins actual material)

Summary: Season One
Review: South Park is probably my favorite series of all time. I am very glad they are releasing the show season by season and i will be buying every one of them, i don't think any other television show has made me laugh so hard. A couple of people mentioned audio/ video problems with this DVD, but i haven't noticed any on mine. The only reason i gave it four stars instead of five is that the first season isn't (in my opinion) the best season of South Park- and i will eagerly be awaiting the release of the second season and others.

Summary: Hilarious!!!
Review: This is a greta series. Some of the characters aren't there yet, though. It's kind of hard to watch an episode without Timmy or Butters but these are still good episodes. It's funny watching the first episode which is basically a soap opra. Kyle's little brother gets abducted by aliens, Cartman copes with the fact that he is overweight, Cartmans mom is very naughty, Stan has the hots for Wendy, and the boys learn to deal with the loss of their good friend Kenny. That's what the whole episode focused on! That's only their personalities! It shouldn't take up a whole show!Anyway their are some great episodes like: An elephant makes love to a pig,Death, Pinkeye, Damien, Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo and Cartmans monm is a dirty slut.S.P. Rules!

PS. If you like South Park get the Futurama, Simpsons, and Family Guy DVDs.

Summary: Good series, Worst TV dvd ever
Review: "South Park" is a very crude and hilarious series that single-handedly put COMEDY CENTRAL on the map. The first season is undoubtedly the best, but WARNER BROS has released a horrible dvd collection.

Episodes: A lot of great ones here, the best being "Pinkeye"(a spoof of the zombie opus RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD), "Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo" (the best christmas episode of any series, with a great live-action commercial in the middle of it), "Mecha-Striesand" (where Barbara Striesand fights Sidney Poiter, Leonard Maltin and Robert Smith from The Cure) and "Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut" (where Cartman tries to find out who his dad is).

Video: Recycled from the RHINO "best of" discs, this video looks as bad as on VHS. If you watched the show on tv it would be clearer than this. Pixelation and annoying shadows are all over the place, this is truly the worst video I've ever seen on an animated TV series.

Audio: Almost as bad as the video. Throughout the first six or so episode annoying pops are heard that are really distracting. The only thing that makes the audio a little better than the video is that the problems clean up in later episodes.

Extras: Very slim. A clip from "The Tonight Show" (the only funny extra), two music videos, some TV spots that are the same on every disc, the boys presenting an award at the 1997 CableACE awards, and annoying introductions to every episode by the creators (these wouldn't be so bad but there's no way to skip them, as a matter of fact there are no chapter stops in this whole set). Commentaries were recorded for every episode by the creators but WARNER BROS took them off because of "standards issues." Instead of slapping a warning before the show (like FOX on their "Family Guy" set) WB got rid of the only extra that is actually good.

"South Park" deserves better than this shoddy treatment and hopefully WB will have a much cleaner and extras heavy release for season two.
