Review: I never cared much for this as a movie, but Alicia Silverstone is such a good looking babe, that alone can make this film worth watching. If I'm correct, this was Alicia's last big film. Christopher Walken ("...you're wasting coffee!" from SNL) plays a significant role, which helps the plot along.

Summary: Benicio Del Toro
Review: If you are a fan of Benicio's it's a must. He makes the flick. It is a good, light-hearted romance that isn't graphic like a lot of the romances out targeted towards teens. Benicio is funny as heck and looks great! Christopher Walken is good a Uncle Ray. Kudo's to Alicia also.

Summary: Leonard Maltin Needs New Glasses.
Review: Indeed, Leonard Maltin does need new glasses, maybe even a new job, because he is totally unqualified as a film critic if he didn't like this movie. Maybe he has something against Alicia Silverstone, but she isn't the reason to see Excess Baggage anyway, although she does a respectable job. The real stars here are Benicio Del Toro and (surprise?) Christopher Walken, who each give outstanding performances. Del Toro steals the show, portraying a shy, soft-spoken and gentle-natured car thief who gets entangled in Silverstone's world by stealing her expensive BMW (with her in the trunk). She's trying to get the attention of her rich and distant father by faking a kidnapping, and Del Toro spends the rest of the movie with her in tow and on the run, trying to reclaim his upended life without getting caught by the mob, due to a broken deal, or iced by her Uncle Ray, a very dangerous, a very cool cat who can kill in a blink, but one who cares for Silverstone as only an uncle should. We come to care for these two men even more than the girl who has brought them together, although the relationship that develops between Del Toro and Silverstone rings sweet and true. Particularly touching is their scene by the lake after they have spent the night together at a remote alpine lodge. They are almost inaudible as they share their thoughts, seemingly childlike in response to the feelings that have developed, but we truly feel the love that is there as Dave Matthews' beautiful song "Crash" plays beneath their words. And there are many other genuine moments. Excess Baggage is filled with an interesting tension and pacing that is uncommon to romantic comedies and thus a treat. More typical is the ending, where all works out for the best, but it is satisfying nevertheless.

Summary: Better Than I Thought
Review: It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I did not want to see it until I heard that Benicio Del Toro and Christopher Walken were in it. Del Toro is excellent and makes this movie a lot better than it would have been with someone else in his role. The film also has great music.

Summary: Very pleasant
Review: Leonard Maltin must have been having a bad day when he wrote his "predictable and tedious" review (but, hey, he's a predicatble and tedious guy). This is a very pleasant, low-key romantic comedy in the vein of "Clueless." It never descends to slapstick, and the romance is thoroughly believable without the usual pandering to the teenybopper crowd. My wife and I are both in our late 40's and thoroughly enjoyed it. A far cleverer plot with far better acting than many Hollywood blockbusters. It's not "Repo Man," but it's a lot more entertaining than an evening with Leonard Maltin.

Review: Ok, I loved this movie! Benicio Del Toro's comic timing is great and he ain't bad to look at either! I fell in love with him from watching this movie. The story is cute, it is entertaining. Why all the fuss? I do believe that it is underrated. It supposedly froze Alicia Silverstone's red-hot career, and for the life of me, I cannot figure out why. It is well-written and quite funny. Christopher Walken is good as well. Enjoyable! There are some good little moments. PS- Benicio -- call me, sweetheart!!

Summary: Definately a sexy romance
Review: People who don't enjoy romance flicks are not going to like this film. The actors are great, the story is great, the enticement of Silverstone and Del Toro is sexy! Don't listen to peoples reviews, it is purely just an opinion. If you like sexy romance story lines, you will love this movie. I'm from Vancouver BC/Canada it was nice to see the footage of Victoria,Vancouver and shots along hwy 99 to Whistler, it is not filmed in Washington! Like the other girl wrote " three words about this film, Benicio Del Toro!".

Summary: This movie is what I call GOOD
Review: Regardless of what past reviewer's have said this movie IS actually quite good. Alicia Silverstone is a good actress. She's more natural than almost any actress in Hollywood. This movie is basically a comedy with bits of romance and action mixed in. Its a little confusing the first time through but it gets better! There's alot of good one liners in this film as well and I don't think it got half as much credit as it should have. See it for yourself, I think you'll like it. Although things here and there don't add up to be a 5 star film but how many movies do?

Summary: Sorry, it's not that good, dudes
Review: Started out okay and fell apart, oh, about ten minutes into it. Christopher Walken was completely wasted. I would have rather watched a movie about his character than this whiny Gen X romance. As usual, in the Hollywood mentality, it is better to end up with an unrepentant car thief than to actually, I don't know, GET A JOB! Sorry, I had a hard time tolerating the lead character. The poor little rich girl thing is really beginning to wear thin. (I mean, it was over in the 30s, guys!) The movie is just painful to sit through. The comedy is lame, the "darkness" has been done better before, any good actors are wasted on a nothing script, the action makes no sense, the characters are obnoxious... But why go on. Try it and don't say I didn't warn you.
