Rating: Summary: A DISGRACE TO OZ MOVIES!!! Review: This movie was terrible! Maybe the fact that I'm such a devoted fan to the 1939 movie and L. Frank Baum's books made me despise this movie so much, but it really is a disgrace! I saw it on dvd. I am a huge Oz collector so I thought I should check this out, but it's really a waste of time. It strays so far from the real story. In this one, Uncle Henry seems abusive to Dorothy and Aunt Em and Dorothy is the queen of Oz. The Scarecrow and the Tin Man are farmhands who dress up as these characters to escape being arrested by what seems to be Oz soldiers. DON'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO WATCH IT! YOU'LL DIE FROM BOREDOM!!!
Rating: Summary: a curiousity piece to be sure Review: This particular version of "The Wizard of Oz" was too heavy on the slapstick. I expect such things out of Mack Sennett, and I was waiting for the Keystone Kops to appear. It's hard to believe that only 14 years later, in 1939, a version would appear that would eclipse all others, past & previous. The "music" for this version was akin to nails on a blackboard, and I ended up turning the volume off to make this more viewable. What's wrong with a theater organ score?
Rating: Summary: About the connection of this film to the original book Review: Well, for one thing. The story sticks pretty close in Dorothy's background. She has an Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. She lives on a farm. Some connection right there. It falls down quite a bit connection-wise in establishing Dorothy was discovered as a baby by her aunt and uncle. A poster here says the actress in this film playing Dorothy is Semon's wife. Actually I think the lady was instead Oz author L. Frank Baum's daughter-in-law. I wonder if the monarch bit of this story was inspired by the collapse of European monarchies seven years earlier.
Rating: Summary: How bad can it be?............Really Really BAD Review: when people write a review and say things like this is the worst movie I have seen I don't usually believe them....I mean come on how bad could it be? Well this one IS the WORST movie I have seen by far........no horrible movie can even compare to how bad this is. In fact if the people who wrote about other movies as being the worst movie they ever seen saw this they would change thier review and appologize. It is so unwatchable and boring that you MUST fast forward while watching if you want to see the whole thing. The music is bad the lady reading the crap to us is bad everything is bad!!! There is a reason this movie is $4 believe me. And no it's not so bad that it is good. If it was flushable I would wipe myself with it and save money on toiletpaper. (This movie doesn't deserve one star I had to give it at least one) If this movie wasn't called the wizard of oz the people who released it would have known not to because they wouldn't have sold a single disk........instead they decided to release it looking for a quick buck for those who are oz fans. If you buy it you WILL be dissapointed. I could have thrown the $4 out the window and been more satisfied!!!
