Rating: Summary: "Hold on to your A** Fred!" Review: I have watched this movie time, and time again i have read all the reveiws on here, and yes, Jackie and Burt were great, but everyone seems to forget how hilarious Jerry Reed was! His way with the CB lingo, and crazy antics, Jerry has a very unique way of putting things. This movie will always be loved, especially for the big truck drivers, although the sequels all but omitted the big truck, which is where the terms "Smokey", and "Bandit" actually originated. The big truck drivers gave the policemen their nickname "Smokey". "You got the one Snowman, I'm east bound and down" GO JERRY!
Rating: Summary: Better on DVD than VHS! Review: I have owned two VHS copies of Smokey and I can tell you that the DVD is much better in picture quality. The only complaint is the colors are not deep and rich like movies from today. But the picture is sharp and crystal clear. And, it is in the 1.85 ratio rather than the 2.35, so you will not have as thick of black bars as otherwise. If you are a Burt Reynolds or Sally Field fan, then get this on DVD, it is a full star better than on VHS!
Rating: Summary: Greatest influence on my life. Review: Burt Renolds at his absolute BEST. Greatest movie of all time. MASTERPIECE. I've gotta get me a Trans-am. I want to make love to frog!
Rating: Summary: DIABLO AND A DOC Review: BEST MOVIE EVER MADE. THE TRANS AM IS AWSOME!
Rating: Summary: A True Classic! Review: The first Smokey film is the best of the three sequels and by far the most hilarious. Burt Reynolds & Jerry Reed are great together but it is Jackie Gleason's portrayl of Sherrif Buford T. Justice (Smokey) that steals the show and keeps the laughs coming at high speed. A must own for Reynolds fans, Gleason fans, or car chase and comedy fans. Gleason has so many great lines in the film so I will just leave you with one: (Sherrif to the car thieves) "Now don't leave...and don't go to eat...and don't play with yourselves...it wouldn't look nice on my highway...oh, you can think about it but don't do it."
Rating: Summary: Jackie Gleason saves this film Review: If it wasn't for Jackie Gleason, this would have been just another Burt Reynolds comedy. Jackie should have been nominated, and won the Oscar for this movie. Burt and Sally Fields were great also, but the only time you really laugh is when Jackie's in the movie. This film was a great comeback for Mr Gleason, and gave the younger fans a taste of his magic from the 50's.
Rating: Summary: Breaker breaker to the Bandit! Review: This film is with out a doubt an all time classic, maybe the best comedy of all time. The plot basically is the "fox and hound" analogy Burt renolds being the fox and Jackie being the daft old hound dog. The Bandit(Burt Reynolds) getting chased everywhere in his black Trans Am by Justice in his clapped out police car which gets battered more and more as the film goes on. One of the classic parts is where they meet in the cafe and the sheriff has know Idea that hes talking to the Bandit.Bandit-"sombody chasing you sheriff ?" Justice - "Nobody chases me boy !" Sheriff Justice(Jackie Gleason) was one of the funniest men in history and in this film Jackie creates a classic character which you will never forget! I watched this film first as a kid and even now when I watch it I still laugh very hard. Overall a classic beginning to a classic comedy trilogy.
Rating: Summary: The best---the original! Review: My favorite film of all time. I remember seeing it when I was barely 2 or 3 years old at the drive-in theater. The entire cast is excellent, and the car that Burt Reynolds uses in this one (the '77 Special Edition Pontiac Trans-Am) is just awsome. Definatly a must-see for car-chase lovers. Jackie Gleason is great as Sheriff Buford T Justice. As the film progresses, so does the damage to his police car. (this became a staple of the series) Please, if you love this film then stay far far away from the poor sequels.
Rating: Summary: Trans-am,what's your pleasure! Review: Although now over 20 years old, this film is still as fresh and as funny as the day I first saw it. Hal Needham was the master of the comedy/action/car chase genre. Many have tried to copy this formula, although most fall short of the mark. Good cinematography,a gag filled script, popular cast, and the best gaffed stunts in the business, make this what could be considered a timeless '70's classic. The only thing that could spoil the 'plot' so to speak, would be to have it remade...(as rumoured!) If you haven't seen it,buy it!
