Rating: Summary: Easy to watch classic Review: I enjoyed watching this classic after so many years of not seeing it. These are the sort of movies I grew up with and they are still excellent to watch. It was also a treat to watch a film WITHOUT computer generated stunts and WITHOUT swearing. An easy film to watch and one that I can enjoy in front of my 3 year old daughter. Also, if you like Pontiac Trans-Am, this is the film for you. I know my brother in-law will just watch the film to see the Trans-Am in action.
Rating: Summary: 3.6 out of 5 Review: SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT is a classic. Watching it now, it's just as easy to see why it ranked up with STAR WARS at the box-office as when it was first released in 1977. Burt Reynolds stars in one of his greatest (and definitely his most popular) roles as the Bandit, who teams up with his pal Cledus (Jerry Reed) to bring back a case of beer in 28 hours; if they can do it, there's $80,000 for them. Along the way Bandit also picks up a woman running from her wedding (Sally Field) and pesky sheriff (Jackie Gleason) who'll hunt Bandit to the death. If you've dismissed this as something like THE CANNONBALL RUN, no matter; you're forgiven, just watch it as soon as possible! SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT, along with it's cool soundtrack by co-star Jerry Reed, will remain a classic for years to come.
Rating: Summary: Fast Car chases Review: This movie was exciting. It was a high speed chase across several states. It all begin with a bet to see of they could get to Texakana, Tx and back in a certain time limit. The pontiac firebird was a great car to use when this movie was made.
Rating: Summary: I'm 10-10 and boogie'n on the side! Review: I wish every movie was this much fun! I mean, so much fun it makes me want to run beer through the smokies! I forgot how much fun this movie was. I was born the year it came out, so I obviously didn't see it on original release, but I did see it when I was a kid. Now I saw the tail end on the movie channel one night and just had to buy the disc. I tell you what..... I grew up on Dukes of Hazzard, and still love to see repeats. This is the movie that started it all. There is not one boring minute. Sure, it's no Oscar contender, but it wasn't meant to be. Just pure, good old American fun. Now, I have heard that the original was too vulgar to get the PG rating, so I understood some of the rather bad overdubs on the cussing, especially when you can read lips and it ain't even close. So it would be fabulous if the original, uncut, and unedited version can one day be released to DVD. Other than that, if you like to drive fast or like fast cars, cool chicks (yeah, Sally Field was a little hottie in her day), and just having fun, Smokey is a can't go wrong pick.
Rating: Summary: For the money, the glory, and the fun...but mostly the money Review: Take a simple bet to go from Georgia to Texarkana and back in 28 hours with an 18-wheeler. Add in 400 cases of illegal Corrs beer being transported across multiple state lines. Enter Burt Reynolds driving a black T-top to run blocker giving law enforcement from Texas to Georgia the chase of a lifetime. Let Jackie Gleason (Sheriff Buford T. Justice) give chase to Renyolds while giving everyone else lip. Mix with Jerry Reed's singing and you've got a smash hit movie. It may surprise some to learn that the only movie to beat Smokey and the Bandit at the box office in the year of its release was Star Wars. There's a reason the movie was successful and that is simply because it's such a fun ride. If you like car chases that always result in destruction, trucking, CB radios, outrageous sheriffs, sarcasm, country music, bar fights, or any combination of the above, then you will likely enjoy this movie. Jackie Gleason steals the show on this one. Eager to work in movies again at the time, he worked for a lower salary so the director/producers would give him more lattitude with his character. The result was a lawman no one in their right mind would ever want to run into and you have to see the movie to really appreciate it. The movie was made in a different era, so don't expect it to be exactly PC. There are one or two moments of racist/sexist/whatever overtones, but they are mostly the rantings of the out-of-his-mind sheriff engaged in a nine-hundred mile hot pursuit, and it's strictly for comedic effect. I don't believe that most people (other than actual law enforcement) would find this movie offensive.
Rating: Summary: Burt Raynolds Best Review: Smokey and the Bandit in my opinion is Burt reynolds best work yet. It is a movie, that when watched for the first time all you want to do is try to figure out what will happen next. In a series of three movies, this is the best one. Burt Reynolds, Jackie Gleason, Jerry Reed and Sally Field make the perfect "Truckers" movie.
Rating: Summary: Hysterical all the way through Review: This is what comedy movies aspire to today, and they never get there. This movie is so funny, your sides will hurt from laughter. Jackie Gleason steals this movie and Buford T. Justice, and his "son" in the movie plays a great part as well. Killer soundtrack from Jerry "Snowman" Reed. Buy it Already!
Rating: Summary: What can say but THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME! Review: This is my husband and I's favorite movie and now our son and daughter love it too, my son has moved his favorite to Smokey 2 (I think Charlotte the Elephant and the smash up scene at the last has alot to do with that). If my daughter won't quit running around the house(she is one, need I say more?), we play this movie and she is glued to the screen or dancing to the music, WHAT A CLASSIC! Seems to me it may have inspired someone to create the Dukes of Hazzard, another great American Classic!
Rating: Summary: The Funniest and best car chases of The 70's! Review: This film probably inspriated a comedy to have a good thrill-ride why you laugh all the way with it! This movie absolutely made Burt Reynolds a star over night! and brought Jackie Gleason back to the comic genre as most people remembered from the greatest sitcom in television history the "Honeymooners". A unknown Sally Field would find her way in Hollywood from this movie as well. The story is about a racer who racing from the law and mostly from a disgrunted Sheriff which is Gleason! this movie is hilarious and a great rollercoaster from start to finish! also recommending Smokey & The Bandit part II, The Cannonball Run & Cannonball Run II. just as funny!
