Summary: A Kind of Movie Little Seen These Days
Review: Judging from other reviews, it seems that people either love this movie or hate it. I belong to the former category. I saw it tonight and absolutely loved it. Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore work wonderfully together; their characters' differences may seem trite at first, but the charisma that each actor has overcomes this slight defect in spades.

One does not often see romantic comedies concerning people past 25 anymore. As a college student who loves old movies, this seems to be a kind of modern Adam's Rib (at least on the lawyer side of things), and that's fabulous. At last, a movie that doesn't solely rely on situational comedy or graphic sex scenes/references in order to make it work. It's about two people who have matured and grown into themselves, and how they fall in love. I hope Brosnan and Moore make more movies like this.

Summary: Julianne Moore's never been funnier.
Review: Not expecting much from this based upon the previews, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by "Laws of Attraction," which is at its best when stars Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore manage to flirt and argue at the same time.

Moore, who's luminous, is particularly good in this movie. She plays Audrey, a top divorce attorney who manages to appear by-the-book even when she's completely insecure. With her hair in a tight bun and her perfect, subtle suit, she's putting on a front, and Moore milks this for every funny moment she can get.

Brosnan, playing her rumpled rival attorney Daniel, oozes sexiness, as well, by getting Audrey to love him by completely annoying her and catching her off-guard. He understands that the only way this woman will accept love is if it completely blindsides her, and he takes steps to do just that.

The supporting cast, particularly Frances Fisher as Audrey's plastic surgery-enhanced mother, is really strong, though I feel better use could've been made of Parker Posey, who has some funny lines in this but has been much, much better elsewhere.

As an homage to the Hepburn-Tracy movies, "Laws of Attraction" falls short. Building momentum through the chief characters' rivalry/romance, it sorta derails when the plot moves the action to Ireland instead of New York. This is a shame.

Because, when it works, "Laws of Attraction" is really charming.

Review: Starring Julianne Moore and Pierce Brosnan as two divorce lawyers who find love, I couldn't help wondering how these two talented people could have agreed to act in such a silly bit of fluff. But I guess they're entitled to make their own choices.

Laws of Attraction is one of those lightweight confections that are upbeat, lively and has zippy background music. It's an old fashioned theme with classic gags and the comedy depends on the rhythm of the dialogue.

Even though the plot was set in modern times, and Julianne Moore cast as successful attorney, the romance was controlled by the Pierce Brosnan character. She was made to look stupid and childish and ridiculous in every scene. He's super confident and arrogant; she is insecure and vulnerable to panic attacks. Both of them eat junk food and they find love only after lots and lots and lots of alcohol.

Fans of romantic comedy might get a chuckle out of this but I was bored throughout.

Review: This movie is great! I am a huge fan of Julianne Moore, and trust me....She shines! As usual. Pierce Brosnan, is great too. A perfect match! I saw this movie 4 times in the theatre. Please, buy this movie. You will not be dissopointed!

Summary: Life and Love in the Legal System...
Review: This movie starred one of the executive producers, Pierce Brosnan, but it was perplexing as to why he chose Julianne Moore as his co-star in this romantic comedy about opposing lawyers in a divorce case with 90 million dollars at stake.

Based on a book written by L. McKinnon about the legal profession and all its flaws, the chatterbox actress who was so good as the old Laura Brown in THE HOURS was miscast as an attorney in this one. She looked like a cross between Lisa Marie Presley and Naomi Judd at her heaviest, and certainly did not dress like a lawyer. She did make a 'classy' fan at the rock concert, performed by one of the unhappy lovers, who just looked somewhat like Ken Young. It's too bad he does not have Ken's deep, melodious voice.

This 007 star didn't look like the debanoir James Bond, either. Most of the time he appeared a bit unkempt or 'casual' but I loved his blue with tan stripes Van Heusen shirt, though the tie conflicted. She gave him a red tie as a sincere apology after confronting him in the 'men's room' (which caused rauctious laughter from some women from Knoxville.) The musician had some strange attire and a different way of doing things, had a Cockney accent. He was good at vulgar talk and actions.

The apology was a tactic and cheap theatrics used by some lawyers. Attorneys call each other 'counselor' and the judge, 'Your Honor.' It was a crutch. It seemed to be the same, loud woman judge with an abrasive voice and typical New York bad manners. There were irrelevant courtroom scenes. She appeared in court in the same outfit worn at the night club.

Though there was no 'chemistry' between this pair of actors, the characters actually fell in love, against all odds. They were a little impulsive and randy folks with lots of drinking. She dreamed of marrying her opponent in Ireland in a hysterical nightmare, only to awaken and find that it did happen. As common with some people, they had drunk too much and made a mistake, again. It was an accident, one little hiccup. Thanks to Philip Koerner for this term. Or, were they meant to be together? "I care about you," he told her; "a person's first response is what you really feel." Neither were unselfish enough to try to make a go of this fiasco of a marriage and encountered torment in breaking up.

The two divorces were successfully annulled, as love conquers all. It seems that divorce lawyers don't believe in divorce, it's just a job. All you have to do is say "I'm sorry" and things tend to work out one way or another. He'd paid her the ultimate compliment by fighting dirty in court and out. He appeared to be chasing her. But, was it the other way around?

Some of the story takes place in a large castle in Ireland owned by the musician. In Ireland, even the airplanes are green. The Irish landscape is all green, like the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. The night spent in the trailer on the castle grounds is a 'must see' to believe. The Irish fife music was pretty good but the Irish dancing was jumping up and down and yelling.

Shades of BRIGADOON, a festival takes place to celebrate a 200 year old legend. The dancing was clomping with lots of fervor. There was fog during their midnight walk.The knight's armor in the hall of the castle and the red carpet down the middle of the stairs was a nice touch, but they took a ride in a black Hummer across Ireland on the way to the airport.

Another nice touch was the painting on exterior of the Cuban night club where some good Latin music prevailed. It looked like Van Gough's "Starry Night'" and quite effective. The white rose in a glass vase full of water was pretty.

She had a really weird mother, and her red hair combined with a temper was as Irish as you get. She had a big mouth full of teeth. Eating junk food made her look ugly; people jut don't look their best when eating. She had a bag of Fritos on the foot of her bed for some reason.

What I really want to know is "Who IS Andre Gide?"

Review: When I saw this movie, I was thrilled to see Peirce Brosnan in a movie other than James Bond. I thought that this movie is a great romantic comedy, and most anybody would love to watch it:o)
