Rating: Summary: Actually 3 1/2 Stars... Review: I wasn't a huge fan of this movie when I saw it at the movie theater, but I did like it enough (or so I thought) to buy it. Yet, now that I own it and I watched it again I just didn't find it as funny. I love Ben Stiller he is one of my favorite actors (Zoolander, Doodgeball, Duplex, etc.) And even though everyone in the movie gives a great performance it is just not up to par with other movies each one of them have done in the past. I get in the mood every so often to watch this movie...luckily I didn't spend too much money on this movie...so I feel I am okay if I watch it a few times.
Rating: Summary: Loved It!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Starsky and Hutch is a movie based on the 70's cop show. Starsky and Hutch was a show like Charlie's Angels and Knight Rider. I really loved this film very much. If you were a big fan of the show, you would definitely love this film. The original Starsky and Hutch were in this movie too. This is a great action, cop, comedy movie, which you should see. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are hilarious in this film. Also Snoop Dogg's performance is funny in this film too. The performances are great and this movie is real funny which you should definitely need to watch. The story goes as 2 undercover cops (Starsky and Hutch) are looking for a powerful drug dealer who sells cocaine, which the cocaine is undetectable. They disguise as many different characters for they can find this drug dealer. Keep in mine these cops are not the smartest cops, so you could see them do some pretty dumb things. Snoop Dogg's character is not a cop, but a good friend of Starsky and Hutch, which he helps in the movie. This is Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson's 4th movie together, which they should be making more because Meet the Parents, Zoolander, and The Royal Tenenbaums were very funny movies. Todd Philips brings real life action to the big screen and brings humor with it. If you loved movies like Meet the Parents, Austin Powers, Old School movies like that, you will definitely love this film. It is a must see in the theater, for a funny time at the movies.
Rating: Summary: NOT BAD FOR ENTERTAINMENT BUT---- Review: Stiller and Wilson upheld their parts as did Vince Vaughn - Bateman and Snoop Dogg - the story had some comidic parts but it was just slightly above average.
Still not bad for entertainment - the gals were beautiful - the guys were into their parts - the car was great despite its dents - loved the end where the two originals showed up.
Huggy Bear had quite a range of wild duds.
Not a classic but it will do. Recommend but share.
Rating: Summary: Starsky & Hutch Review: tarsky & Hutch is the latest 70's television show to receive an upgrade to the movie screen. Was this necessary? Probably not, but the result is a really funny movie. Taking the "Brady Bunch" approach, and placing their tongues firmly in cheek, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson assume the roles made popular on the small screen so many years ago. Ben Stiller is the somewhat anal Starsky and Owen Wilson is the laid back Hutch. And while there is a plot somewhere in there, the movie's focus is the relationship between the two. After being teamed together, they are out to bust a drug dealer, played by Vince Vaughn, who has developed cocain that cannot be detected by narcotics dogs. The plot allows them to go undercover, get some girls, and have some action scenes. I firmly believe that there will be a sequel to this, especially if the film does well (which I think it will). Stiller and Wilson have a comroderie that has worked well in previous movies, and is even more evident here. If you are looking for a laugh, check out Starsky & Hutch.
Rating: Summary: HILARIOUS...especially if you get the "inside" jokes Review: This movie just plain made me smile and laugh until I cried! I am a huge S&H fan from the 70's and I thought this movie was excellent. Although still set in the 1970's, there seemed to be some modern infusion to it that added to the fun. When originally cast, I wasn't too sure about Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, but as soon as the movie got underway, I knew that the pairing was great. The comedic chemistry between them was somewhat reminiscent of the chemistry between David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser. Everyone seemed to know that Snoop Dogg was destined to be Huggy and he was GREAT in the role. For those who remember the series WELL, there were some parts that were especially funny because of the "inside jokes" incorporated from the series. My friend that went with me didn't remember the series and she found the movie funny. I remember all of the episodes and there were parts that were hilarious to me that she didn't get. Overall, this movie is a must see, especially if you want to have a good time and to laugh. Starsky and Hutch fans should be pleasantly suprised and very pleased with the movie!
Rating: Summary: AWESOME, DONT BELIEVE ANYONE ELSE! Review: This movie was outright hilarious! Most people who slammed this movie dont know anything about comedy. If you liked any other films by Stiller and Wilson, YOU WILL LOVE THIS ONE! I thought the story line was perfect, because it allowed the insertion of hilarious offshoots and parts that were not necessary in the overall outcome of the plot. Great cameos by WILL FERRELL and the old Starsky and Hutch from the TV Show. Oh, also, most people who reviewed this also cared if it matched the authenticity of the TV Show. WHO CARES???? I honestly thought it was and still is, the funniest movie of 2004!
Rating: Summary: Funny Review: This movie was really funny, and ben stiller and owen wilson work great together on the big screen. Snoop Dogg as huggy bear is perfect, and anything with Vince Vaughn in it is usually pretty good. The only reason i give the movie 4 stars instead of 5, is because i am getting a bit tired of old tv sitcoms being turned into movies. Be a bit more original. If they can think of the idea to make a sitcom about Starsky and Hutch back in the 70's, then screenplay writers can write something on there own too today. Doesnt take away from the movie though, a great comedy with a lot of laughs.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining diversion Review: With the current delving into old TV shows, Starsky and Hutch seemed an obvious choice for the re-make option. The movie's stroke of genius was casting Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as the eponymous duo. Having already worked together in Zoolander and The Royal Tenenbaums, the on-screen camaraderie really comes across here. So what for the rest of the movie? Well, it's rarely less than entertaining, but the big laughs are few and far between. Perhaps unusually, the fun the movie pokes at the original show is pretty lighthearted and gentle. The storyline too, is easily one that could've served as something for TV - basically running after a cocaine dealer who has perfected a new brand of drugs that's indetectible to sniffer dogs. However, this all points to a genuine affection for the show, and the realisation of the inherent homoeroticism in the pairing is played well. What really makes the movie are the incidentals. Aside from the leads, Snoop Dog as Huggy Bear, is brilliantly cast, and there are some very very funny set pieces. One in particular, involves Starsky shooting a horse at a bar mitzvah. However, these moments are reasonably few and far between, and for the most part I was smiling rather than laughing out loud. The expected walk-on from the original Starsky and Hutch at the end is much better done than you would expect. Even so, it's not something that will sustain a sequel. Whilst certainly not a dud, this isn't up there with The Brady Bunch and Charlie's Angels in the re-make stakes - both taking a much more obvious tongue-in-cheek approach. What really works against Starsky and Hutch though, is that everybody's tired of the remakes. Not only do Hollywood seem to be going for the 'safe' bets again and again at the moments with a run of sequels and remakes. With a run of remarkable films from new talents - Donnie Darko, Secretary, Lost In Translation - with original screenplays, the need for films in the vein of Starsky and Hutch just isn't there so much anymore. Though the movie's performance at the box office seems to have proved otherwise, surely it can't be long before these good but unremarkable movies sink without a trace? However, it's well put together, well acted, just perhaps not as funny as I might have hoped.
Rating: Summary: Yup, just not that funny. Review: Worth a chuckle if on TV late at night, but that's about it. Not a huge let down, but you expect more. Just not "zany" as it wants to be. The DVD extras are fairly lame as well, as most DVD supplements are becoming. If you really want it... buy it used from some rental outlet.
Rating: Summary: Oh, don't take it too seriously, it's just a parody! Review: You have to admit that tv shows from the seventies all beg to be made fun of these days, particularly with their clothes and hairstyles and gross inaccuracies and flying car chases. Buddy cops in particular seem hilarious to look at them now. How could they overlook Starsky and Hutch (a show which, when I was in high school, I would move hell and high water never to miss!)
This movie doesn't take itself seriously and neither should the people watching it. It's got all the good elements from the old series, the homoerotic undertones were played up just a bit more, Snoop Dog does a great job as Huggy Bear, they play the good-cop, bad-cop routine to the hilt. Stiller even got Paul Michael Glaser's bow-legged walk down to a T, as well as the fact that these guys were always dressed like they were in Chicago in winter when everyone else around them was in a bikini. (And Starsky's famous sweater even put in an appearance! Yay!)Loved the seventies music too.
I can't complain about this film. Sometimes I laughed at the corny jokes, and sometimes I laughed just out of pure fond nostalgia. What it all comes down to, though, is that the movie is worth it for fans of the original series, just for the two people who make cameo appearances at the very end!
