Summary: Excellent movie on an unfortunate subculture
Review: Good flick, good soundtrack

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: for specific tastes.
Review: Some people see the first scene of the movie and immediately dismiss it as another over the top drug glamorization free for all. Nothing could be further from the truth. Trainspotting presents a rather realistic take on life with heroin; it is dark, funny, disgusting, sad, and disturbing. Though not a particularly good influence and certainly not a family film, Trainspotting is a must-see for all young people 18 and older.

Summary: Brilliant filmmaking, distasteful story
Review: This film is very well made. The screenwriting is absolutely first rate and the soundtrack/score is excellent! All the roles are acted very competantly, some extremely so. I enjoyed the way that the surrealistic sequences blended seamlessly into the realistic sequences without any overt indications. There are many memorable characters in this film and it is a tribute to the writer that MacGregor's character (is it Renton?) is deep enough to evoke feelings of disgust, pity, admiration, strength, insanity, clear-headedness, and much more.

People who have not seen this movie need to be warned that the subject matter (heroin addiction, with added sex, violence, and squalor) is portrayed sometimes very graphically and some of the scenes may effect some viewers so negatively so as to render the movie unwatchable.

Summary: A very interesting story told very well
Review: This movie is disgusting, but that isn't the reason I like it. :-)

I like it because it is well-crafted entertainment with an interesting story portrayed and produced to very high standards. There are enough twists and tensions in the movie to keep the first-time viewer entralled and enough content density to keep the repeat viewer coming back for more.

In the end, the thing about this movie I like the most is the soundtrack. The music is perfect in every way and completely fits the movie. The screenwriting is top-notch and the production values are of a very high order.

Summary: Gripping
Review: I believe that a movie accomplishes it's purpose when the viewer actually understands how the charcters in the film must feel. This film was great because by the end of it I felt as though I could relate to these drug recovering youngsters. TRAINSPOTTING isn't just a movie it's an experience. All of the performances were great, I particularly enjoyed the performance of newcomer Kelly MacDonald. She's very pretty and even does a full frontial nude scene. If you like this movie chances are you will also like SHALLOW GRAVE.

Summary: Trainspotting is one of the best films of the 1990's.
Review: I have owned my copy of Trainspotting for 2 years. I bought it used having not seen it. This is the first time that I had seen Ewan McGregor in a film. He and his co-actors did a wonderful job in their performances. It has a strong, harsh script. It is not for the faint of heart. Anyone out there expecting this to be anything like Star Wars had better forget that notion. But if you want to see one of the best films of the 90's, look no furthur. Trainspotting kicks total arse.

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: I love this movie. And I think what makes it work is that the characters are so human. They are heroin addicts who do some deplorable things but the actors and the writer(s?) made the characters so well-drawn, not just druggie stereotypes, that you actually care for these people and what happens to them. It has to be Ewan McGregor's best performance so far! The cinematography and soundtrack are first rate, as well. A hard film to swallow, to be sure, but well worth it. It may even change your attitude on addicts, to see them as human beings with real stuggles instead of the society cast-aways so many Hollywood movies portray.

Summary: One of the best films of the Nineties!
Review: I caught this film back in 1996 while I was visting London. Totally brilliant. I love this film. Great performances all around, but esp. a pre Star Wars Ewan McGregor, Ewan Bremner and a frightening Robert Carlyle. The direction and cinematography are first class. Controversial, surreal and full of high energy. Not for all tastes, but for adventurous viewers, highly remommended.

Summary: Real life Edinburgh in the 1980's
Review: All the classic images of Scotland, such as men wearing kilts other than for social occaisions, are blown out of the water here in Irvine Welsh's wonderful film. Some may argue that some of the scenes are vile and disgusting but this merely portrays what parts of Scotland, with particular reference to Leith are really like. The story is of told by Renton, about an almost futile existence where he struggles against Heroin addiction and coping with his friends, who in there own right are in parts also addicts, theives and psychopaths. With this in mind the film is portayed in a sympathetic light towards Renton struggles. Many may find this film obscene but there is always, as with any film, a option of flicking the remote. Deffinitely a 5 star film but the book of the same name that preceeded the film is actually better and is also highly recommended

Summary: One of the most disturbing movies of 1996
Review: Ewan McGregor delivers an admirable performance in one of the most haunting, disturbing, and terribly hilarious movies of 1996. It's all really, really intense, and its playful directness is absolutely fascinating.
