Summary: Don't think this includes the Specials!!!
Review: Amazon has pulled a fast one. When they advertise this box set, it was supposed to be a black box and include the specials that were previously unavailable. When my order arrived, it was just the two white individual season dvd's shrinkwrapped together! No black box, no specials.

This is one of the funniest TV shows ever made, hands down. But Amazon has pulled some lame moves by promising one thing and delivering another.

Summary: Sophisticated, Vicious Satire of the First Order
Review: First things first: If you're of a fan of such American-bred standouts as Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld and The Simpsons, there's no need for you to read any further. Buy this DVD immediately--you will not be disappointed.

For those unfamiliar with the series, The Office is a vicious send-up of English office culture brought off in a witty, sophisticated manner all too absent from today's lowest common denominator-driven American sitcom. Thankfully, the publicly funded BBC is free from the commercial encumbrances that would render this series all but impossible to make by American network television.

The series centers on the gut-wrenching, inscrutable antics of one David Brent (channeled masterfully by Ricky Gervais), branch manager of a paper merchant in Slough, Country Berkshire, England. His daily interactions with his staff provide the vehicle from which the "heart" of the series is drawn. Like a train-wreck, they are almost impossibly painful to watch but equally impossible to avert your eyes from. You don't so much watch an episode of The Office as you do survive it.

Those among us who have worked in such an environment will find these characters all too familiar--ranging from the fantastically horrible, misogynistic "Finchy" to the sympathetic Dawn. In fact, the most exquisite, uncomfortable moments come when it is oneself you see reflected in the actions of each of the various players in this dark comedy. In short, unfortunately, we all can relate.

Summary: Amazon may have goofed, but there was no malice
Review: I am just adding my 2 cents as a person who ordered the box set and got a season 1&2 bundle with the white cover. Thanks to my fellow disappointed office fans who proved I didn't dream the black covered DVD package.

Anyway, I returned the DVDs, and amazon were real gents about it they were. The black-covered DVD we all wanted was pulled from this site. Maybe BBC Video goofed? who knows.

Since this is a listing for seasons 1&2, I'll give it a review on its merits. I'll just say it's worth getting. It's the kind of thing you can't wait to tell like-minded people about. Once every few years that happens. The very talented Gervais and Merchant will go on to do great work, but they'll never completely outdo this comedy gem.

Summary: Blows American sitcoms out of the water(not hard to do)
Review: I am not much on sitcoms,I find them non-original and formula. But once in a blue moon you stumble on a show that stays with you long after it is done.I really cannot compare this to anything I have seen before. Some compare it to "Fawlty Towers" but that show was over the top comedy where as "The Office" is more down to earth character driven comedy. You really care for these characters! You almost feel like a peeping tom on these peoples lives since the show is done in a documentary style. It is almost like reality TV but it is scripted of course. It does equal "Fawlty Towers" in quality and originality but that is it.The only complaint I have is it only lasted 2 seasons. Why can't we have shows like this in America?Since we don't ,get this!

Summary: AN ADDICTION
Review: I bought it and watched the first episode and thought, "What is this?" I watched the second episode and then the third and couldn't stop until both seasons were done. I've never gotten so wrapped up in the characters of a show before and am excitedly awaiting the release of the specials.

In other words, buy it!

Review: I feel you Barry. I don't agree with that in the workplace!

Summary: Witty Britcom
Review: I heard the hype about "The Office". I saw Series 1 & 2. Both series are funny, however, series 1 was the funniest Britcom I've seen in a long time. This series reminded me of a company I used to work for. Brent's (Ricky Gervais) character describes my former boss exactly. The series works because it doesn't subject the viewer to laugh tracks, overpaid actors, or lame situations. Series 2 is a little more serious but there are some memorable moments. One of the best dvds I've ever purchased.

Summary: Buyer beware!
Review: I love the Office. What I don't love is Amazon listing a 3-disc boxed set of Seasons 1 and 2 and the 2 BBC specials for sale and then mailing me 2 separate discs of Seasons 1 and 2. So be aware that Amazon is not shipping what they advertise here. I have contacted them and have had not a reply about this.

Summary: The Greatest show ever made
Review: I used to believe that Seinfeld was the greatest show ever made until I saw The Office. It's an amazing show and I hope as many people as possible watch it. The only thing about the second series disk is that it doesn't include the series finale, which is the Christmas specials that aired later. Those should come out sometime in the future on DVD here in the states. Buy this show

Summary: Simply great;-)
Review: I'm not American and I'm not British. I've never understood to british humor, but The Office just caught me. I don't know why, it's funny and Ricky is a great actor. I really recommend this show;-)
