Summary: Great movie - but dvd could have more features
Review: I absolutely love this movie. It is great in so many respects and is much more than just fantastic special effects. It is laugh out loud funny. I never get tired of watching it, and every time I see it I catch something I didn't see before. Sometimes I really wonder if certain actresses who never seem to age really have taken some magic potion.

As far as the dvd goes, I have really been craving a "deleted scenes" feature for this movie. I have long heard about the alternate ending that was shot and dropped at the last minute - I remember someone telling me it involved Streep and Hawn's characters on a mountain in Switzerland trying to come up with new things to do or places to go and finding immortality to be quite boring. There are also entire scenes with Tracy Ullman that were fully cut from this movie when her character was completely deleted. And, there is the msytery of the Greta Garbo actress on the end credits. Someone is listed as having portrayed Garbo in the movie, but I have never been able to find her in the film. James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, Elvis, and Jim Morrison are clearly at Lisel's party...but I don't know where Garbo is supposed to be (yet, a scene with her was evidently shot, since an actress is credited as playing her). That scene must also have been cut.

I think this would be a terrific film to have some behind the scenese featurette for as well. In 1992, the effects used here were revolutionary...though Forrest Gump, made a few years later, gets most of the credit for being groundbreaking in this field. I remember being totally blown away with what was achieved in Death Becomes Her and would love to know exactly what went into making it. I think it would also be interesting to hear from Zemeckis himself exactly what motivated him to make this movie - I bet he would have some interesting stories to tell about his own experiences with "the walking dead of Beverly Hills".

I doubt they will be making a special edition dvd of this movie any time soon. There isn't any great public demand for it. But, I hope that when the milestone anniversaries of this film come around someone will reconsider this dvd oversight and include all the cut scenes and other standard featurettes that go into dvds these days.

The movie is too good to skimp on this stuff. And I truly would like to be able to see how Greta Garbo was featured in this film. I think that scene could have been really interesting.

Review: ...
Death Bcomes Her is NOT a wonderfully symbolic or brilliantly touching film. But it is terribley enjoyable. I could watch this dark and glamorous comedy about life, death, and immortality again and again and never become the least bit tired with the wonderfully placed articles that go with it: the beautifully relentless score, the wonderful comedic timing, or the impecable star power.
This movie is worth seeing many times to come, so buy it, unless you're stuck in that dank dungeon.

Summary: An Excellent Black Comedy
Review: The film is very good but the dvd is not in widescreen format. I request to the Universal Studio, please release this film in widescreen format with DTS sound. I am a great fan of Robert Zemeicks. He always makes films based on universal truth, the truth beyond any boundry, whether you believe it or not. His other great flicks are: CONTACT, CAST AWAY, FORREST GUMP, BACK TO THE FUTURE and WHAT LIES BENEATH.

Summary: this edition not for the collector
Review: I LOVE this movie, however, I'm still waiting for a widescreen edition. No true collector of movies would waste their time on this edition of such a beautifully shot and directed (and funny) film. I pray the day comes soon when this film is presented as the director intended.

Summary: Wait for a Special Edition
Review: I wish this DVD had the trailer. I worked in a cinema when it came out and the trailer had Tracy Ullman (as a bartender?)in several cut scenes about Bruce Willis' character being "dead" (which I assume was at/after the Party).
I'll wait for a better edition and I suggest you do so as well.

Summary: A Tale Of Immortality & The Price One Pays!
Review: DEATH BECOMES HER is a very funny, yet dark film. Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, Goldie Hawn, & Isabella Rosellini gave stupendous performances. This movie can be considered a horror-comedy. It's also a morality tale on how immortality has its price. Bruce Willis plays a reluctant hero in this movie as he is given a choice: Accept Immortality & Live Forever, or Rot Away & Die.

DEATH BECOMES HER is highly recommended.

Review: This movie was spectacular! It was funny as hell. Dramatic, and I just loved the style of how Robert Zemickis directed this movie to make it romantic, loving, caring, and funny as hell. This was a great movie!

Review: I can't believe this movie didn't get more attention! This is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Goldie Hawn, Meryl Streep and Bruce Willis, they were all hilarious. I never knew Bruce could be so funny!

Summary: Life After Death?
Review: Many films are not appreciated until well after their last image stops flickering on the big screen. DEATH BECOMES HER is one of those films but DVD and video tape is the potion offering eternal life. With its high profile cast and director, audiences expected more than a one-joke, high concept film. Looking at it now, the one-joke is very well executed (pun intended) and only gets old right at the last minute. This credit should go to director Robert (the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy, FORREST GUMP, CAST AWAY) Zemeckis. He has often been a visually stimulating director with an ear for comic timimng. This film is his homage to Alfred Hitchcock. The simple script and story-line have no relevance to "Hitch" but, Zemeckis' lighting and visuals are obvious nods. He would honor Hitchcock again years later with WHAT LIES BENEATH (unfortunately, not much of an honor). DEATH BECOMES HER revolves around a pair of hateful friends fighting throughout their lives and in eternity. The film begins with an hysterical Broadway Show snippet. Madeline Ashton (Meryl Streep) is starring in a musical version of SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH called "Songbird". Filled with 70s dance moves and snide humor, the mini-musical quickly sets the tone for the film. The on-screen audience hates the show with the exception of super plastic surgeon, Ernest Melville, fiancé of Helen (Goldie Hawn). Ernest marries Madeline, and Helen gets depressed,her life slipping to below poverty and a serious weight problem. (Hawn's 'fat-suit' is ingenious). When Helen comes up with a plan for revenge, her life returns with a vengeance, and she returns into the lives of Madeline and Ernest. A visit to an always scantily clad witch (Isabella Rossellini) provides Madeline with a potion that reverses the aging process and provides eternal life. Not soon after, Ernest half-heartedly pushes her down the steps (a la Psycho) resulting in her death. This only makes the mangled immortal angry. "Mad" now takes her own revenge on Helen or "Hell" by blowing a shotgun hole in her belly. But Helen has been taking the potion as well and returns. The film now takes on humor both diabolical and creative that takes us right through the last frame. Streep and Hawn have a blast with their roles, chewing scenery whenever possible and Bruce Willis is great in a very un-Bruce Willis role, the brow-beaten nebbish, Ernest. Great fun looks good in one of the first films to be released on DVD.
