Rating: Summary: all production values and no heart Review: The lasting appeal of Dr.Seuss' books and what makes them rereadable long after you know the plot was the wit and imagination he applied to what were in many cases, fables . While an entertaining story, there is also an element of the Grinch that laments the commercialization of Christmas and the importance placed on the size of the gift rather than the sentiments with which it is given. While a spectacular example of makeup and prodcution design, Ron Howard's film falls prey to the same base material instincts that the story warns against. More emphasis is placed on the action set pieces ( like the sled ride) and crass jokes about bodily functions than on what makes Christmas a meaningful experience. The Grinch through this film becomes means to sell movie tie-in merchandise which is a sad bastardization of the original story. Basic elements of the story like the ability to have Christmas without gifts are dwarfed by sled pyrotechnics and simpleminded exposition for why the grinch is mean. The magic of the book is that it is entertaining and inspries thought this film just encourages the viewer to stop thinking and ooh and aah. There are things more important in life than presents but in a film so dedicated towards to glossing over the anti-commercial elements of Seuss' story with mindless action and low brow humor, it's impossible to see what they could possibly be. Do you and your family a favor, spend a couple more dollars, buy the book and read it to your kids.
Rating: Summary: Fun, But An Overstuffed Stocking Review: Ron Howard's The Grinch brings Dr. Seuss' classic tale to live action life. Maybe it would've been better if it just stayed animated. Don't get me wrong, this is a fun, visually dazzling film, but it's just so busy!. Jim Carrey was the one and only choice to play The Grinch. There is no one else who could've brought him to life. He is fabulous in the role. Everybody is pretty much aware of The Grinch's story by now. What this film delivers is a little bigger insight into our furry green grouch's life. Who he is, how he came to Whoville, and his childhood. It was a nice touch. Now, onto the bad points. There are moments in this film that might seem a little scary for some little kids. I've had friends who have kids tell me their kids were afraid. So, be warned. The other bad point is that the film is just all over the place!. It has so many things going on with so many visuals crammed into every single frame. This film is an overstuffed stocking just waiting to explode!. But, still, the movie is high on the entertainment factor. Jeffrey Tambor, Molly Shannon, Christine Baranski co-star. Anthony Hopkins narrates the film too. This might not become an annual classic to be watched like the animated Grinch, but it still has it's own, zany fun.
Rating: Summary: Not appropriate for children Review: This is a horrible mutilation of the beloved children's classic. I was trying really hard to find something to like, but the scene with the grinch eating a light bulb finally put me over the edge. The scene lasts forever and was so horribly disgusting. Dr. Seuss would be appalled. Buy the animated version instead, or better yet, turn off the tv and sit and read it together. Discuss the meaning of Christmas with your children, don't let hollywood try to teach them values through this lame, offensive rip-off.
Rating: Summary: THE GRINCH!!!!!! Review: I went to see this movie in theaters and it rocked!!!!!!!! i couldnt wait for it to come out on DVD! its a must buy title
Rating: Summary: Best Christmas movie ever! Review: I didn't even want to see this movie, but we took our daughter who was 2 at the time. It was her first movie theater experience. We were nervous that she wouldn't sit still, but the entire movie kept her captivated. She loved it. And I actually loved it! There is enough silliness to keep kids interested, but enough subtle humor to entertain adults as well. Jim Carrey is awesome in this movie. This one is definitely going into our movie collection!
Rating: Summary: Kids will love it, I didn't Review: Jim Carrey is amusing for only about a minute but after that, I can't stand him. Kids will probably get a kick out of Carrey's antics and his constant mugging for the camera. I for one will always be a fan of the original Chuck Jones cartoon with Boris Karloff's memorable narration. Making a live action film from a cartoon CAN be worthwhile, but this one didn't work for me.
Rating: Summary: grinch2000 Review: this movie is the best i have seen in a long time i have always loved the grinch ! i cant wait ti get my copie
Rating: Summary: BEST MOVIE EVER Review: I think that The Grinch is the best movie ever created. I recommend it to everyone to watch. If you liked the original version of the grinch, then you'll LOVE the new one with Jim Carey. I have a countdown going on until i can go and get it on the 20th.
Rating: Summary: lovin the grinch! Review: I have to say that this movie was wonderful, it's worth to buy. It's not like the cartoon but then again I'm glad, if I wanted the cartoon version I would have gotten it.Jim Carrey does a wonderful job, no one else would have acted better.I definetly would not pass this up to buy, it's going to go fast!
Rating: Summary: A Visual Feast Review: Jim Carrey's version of The Grinch is more than wonderful! The characters not only come to life, but quickly become endearing. The village of 'whoville' is a visual feast for the eyes that will long linger in your imagination. A winter paradise was created in this movie. Jim Carrey's antics are comical and he manages to live up to the cartoon depiction. I have purchased this movie because I know I will want to view it again and again.
