Summary: Not bad, not as good as Truman Show, though
Review: This movie isn't awful, nor is it great. I enjoyed the "Truman Show" much more, it was written much better and was "the" original, whereas "EDTV" and the highly overrated "Bowfinger" try to cash in with similar plots. I can't see how "Bowfinger" got a good rating. I thought it was an awful, annoying and highly disappointing film. EDTV is worth a watch and the 3-5 bucks it costs to buy at Blockbuster previously viewed. It IS funny, but we've all seen everything in this film before in a much more polished form with the magnificent "Truman Show". Same concept, maybe taken TOO far, also disappointing that Ed (Matthew McConnaughy)KNOWS about being filmed, whereas Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) figured it out by himself by flaws in the actor's (of the TV show, not the movie) characters. "Truman Show" is much smarter and has more beef to it.

Summary: seems like a great video! 1/24/00:
Review: I just bought this video today at k-mart for 12.99. It seems like a funny video. My sister saw it and said it was good. I can't wait until I watch it and see for myself. Buy it!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Funny, but not as inspiring as "Truman Show"
Review: So many similarities between this and "Truman" make it worth a peek. Lacks the same level of human emotion but still good fun for anybody looking for a way out of life.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: OK, but not worth DTS
Review: I bought this to add to my DTS DVD collection, and I was dissapointed that I actually spent more for the DTS, Don't get me wrong I liked the movie but WHY did they make it a DTS film. If you liked this movie buy the 5.1 version, the DTS isn't worth the extra ca$h

Summary: Great movie.
Review: You should buy this, for it is a great story line. You never get tired of it!

Summary: Not "The Truman Show"
Review: Alot of people compare this with The Truman Show, the vital difference is Ed *knows* he's on TV and yet its still less sterile than Truman. The plausibility of a volunteer (rather than the Truman victim) makes for hilarity and serious contemplation about fame and loss of privacy.

Truman is good, EdTV is better, it just came 2nd.

Summary: What a cute movie!
Review: Okay, so it doesn't compare to The Truman Show and has some flaws; EDtv is still a very entertaining movie. It's funny and touching, and Matthew McConaughey is just so darn hot, who could resist watching it? Even if you don't pay all the money to buy it, at least try renting it, you won't regret it.

Summary: Barely passable as entertainment
Review: When I saw the ad for this movie, I first thought "Truman Show." Now mind you, the plots of these two movies have little in common, except that both are about an "average Joe American" 's entire life being broadcast 24/7 for the entertainment of America.

EDTV has some good moments, but the balance of the film just plain bores. For example, the director felt it necessary to do "box within a box" kind of secnes, i.e. scenes where we see movie viewers watching Ed (the main character) on TV. The first scene establish Ed's credibility with the actual movie audience (that's us), but director likes to beat a dead horse deader or something like that, bceause he does it over and over and over and over and over and over again. And to ensure we can't escape it, he spaces these relapses throughout the entire movie, to let us know he can't let go of his infantile impulses.

The plot is pretty uneven, too. In the end, Ed is saved by someone else, so really that third person steals the spotlight. And of course there is basically no suspense or plot development until the last 3/4 of the film, and the final "climax', if you can call it that, spans less than 5 minutes of the entire movie. In short, I think the director shot too much of the film too slowly, than realized his budget/production scehdule was nearly up, and then tacked on a "rush job" ending to the movie.

If you saw Nutty Professor (same director), then you havea feel for the unevenness of the movie's development. The actor who played Ed did a fantastic job, though, and he carried a doomed film through as good as a condemned man burdened with other people's could.

Summary: This was my favorite movie of all time!
Review: This was the best movie in the world. Dennis Hopper is increadibly watchable, this movie is a great movie, the ending's not that great, but everthing else is awesome! Definitely watch this movie unless your a little kid.

Summary: Not predictable....
Review: Ron Howard did it again!!! Edtv is really a great movie, it's enjoyable, touching and yet funny. I really recommand the movie to see. The DVD version is also really great with a lot of extra's. It's one of the best commedies i've seen in a long time!!!
