Summary: Corny but Fun
Review: Probably the best Jon Goodman movie I have ever seen. The premise is implauable to say the least, but you still manage some pretty descent laughs.

Summary: John Goodman's best role!!
Review: Synopsis : A freak accident occurs that wipes out the entire royal family, and England is forced to find a new king. After doing an extensive search of the bloodline, a distant heir is revealed. That heir is Ralph Jones - a good-natured Las Vegas lounge singer. The original king's private secretary ( Peter O' Toole) is forced to give Ralph a crash course in what it takes to be a king. Unfortunately, Ralph's unconventional behavior provides fuel for a plot to take over the throan by the evil Lord Graves ( John Hurt). To make things even worse, Ralph falls for a stripper( Camille Coduri)which threatens to tarnish Ralph's royal image beyond repair. Now it is up to the former Las Vegas entertainer, to redeem himself, and show that he has what it takes to become England's very own "King Ralph"...

My Thoughts : "King Ralph" is one of the funniest films I have ever seen, and it is John Goodman's best role without a doubt. He was absolutely perfect for the role, simply because he got to play a character that was so much like himself. All of his "unconventional" methods of being king, will have you laughing for the entire film. Peter O' Toole was also oustanding as Goodman's private secretary. He tries his hardest to teach Ralph the "propper" way of being king, and must fight Ralph every step of the way. The fact that Goodman and O' Toole are such opposites, is what makes them play so well off of each other. John Hurt and Camille Coduri give nice supporting performances as well.

Overall : "King Ralph" offers outstanding performances, and non-stop laughs. I highly recommend this film to anyone who is a fan of John Goodman, or comedies in general. You will not be dissapointed!!

Grade : A

HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Summary: Hilarious !
Review: The entire British royal family was wiped out by freak accident (electrocuted during photo session) so the search to heir. And guess what, it is a Bar singer (played by John Goodman). It is up to Peter O'Toole to teach him how to behave like royalty. The entire movie is so funny you can watch it over and over again and still amused. I would have given it 5 stars if not for lack of extra features and no attempt was given to give this wonderful movie a better DVD transfer and the full screen picture is about the same with the old laserdisc. But for the price, you can't complain. Just buy it, you won't be sorry.

Summary: Very Funny!!
Review: This is a great movie - it was made in 1991 but is still hilarious! John Goodman plays an American who inherits the throne in England and has to deal with the culture shock and his new-found royal obligations. If you liked him in the role of Dan Conner on Roseanne, you will enjoy him in this movie. Peter O'Toole plays his loyal assistant who has to teach him how to act like a king and steals many of the scenes much the way Hobson did in the movie Arthur. I highly recommend this movie! It is very funny and one of those movies you can watch over and over and still crack up every time - and the great thing about DVD is you can skip to the highlights!

Summary: Too bad...
Review: Too bad for all the people who either haven't seen this movie and/or for the educated "critics" who've trounced it. Goodman gives perhaps the BEST depiction of Joe Six-pack, the everyday American guy. John Hurt's version of an aristocratic cutthroat is outstanding! O'Toole's character defines the word "regal" FAR better then any attempt to come out of Buick. And let's not forget the stacked Blonde, played by Camille Coduri! Whoa! How can anyone forget the scene before she enters the palace whereas she adjusts her, ahhh, assets.... LOL! This movie has it all and delivers the goods in an appropriate manner. John Goodman was recently on SNL, and cracked a joke about only 7 people going to watch this movie of his when it was in the theaters; everybody laughed...they would have laughed a ...lot more had they seen the thing. WATCH THIS MOVIE!! You'll get many a laughs out of it -- I did.

Summary: Outrageously funny!
Review: When the British royal family (yes, every one of them!) is wiped out in a tragic photography accident, the hunt is on for an heir to the throne. Unfortunately for Britain, when one is found it turns out to be Ralph Jones (played by John Goodman), an American lounge singer from far over the wrong side of the tracks. As Lord Percival Graves (John Hurt) schemes to dethrone Ralph I, Fredrick Willingham (Peter O'Toole) works feverishly to keep Jones' feet on the straight and narrow. [Color, created in 1991, with a running time of 1 hour, 36 minutes.]

As you can tell from the summary above, this is not a movie to be taken seriously! It is outrageously funny, being both outrageous and funny. The downside is that there is one scene where Ralph goes to a strip club, and several women are seen in less than family-oriented clothing (there's a joke in there somewhere). So, if you have young children, like me, then you will need to hit stop, and fast-forward past the offending scene, as it is too long to simply cue through.

That said, though, for adult viewing, this is a great movie! It has a wonderful, heart-warming message, and is funny without much swearing or any violence. I highly recommend this movie.

Summary: Kind of humiliating for Americans...
Review: While I enjoyed this movie for its entertainment value and John Goodman's charm and Peter O'Toole's character's sympathetic elegance, I felt that it made Americans seem envious that we don't have royalty. Additionally, we're not all as boorish as the Goodman character, so why sharpen the contrast? It also seemed incredibly disrespectful a sort of arrogant toward the British. Despite those bits of discomfort, it is fun to watch.
