Summary: It's not pretty woman! But it's pretty awesome!
Review: This movie has a piece of everyone in it. You'll see yourself in struggles with friendships, family and lovers. It puts a small town atmosphere into a big city relationship. Julia comes across as both victim and victor, you'll love her in this movie. Richard Gere comes across as a villian and hero all in one. You'll find yourself laughing at his cunning ability to get under everyone's skin, then you'll wish you were able to attend the wedding of the year, if there is one.

Summary: Great film!
Review: Generally, most romantic films these days are just becoming plain boring and unorginal. This is not a boring or predictable film. It is funny and romantic and I wouldn't mind seeing it again. I readily admit that I am not a Julia Roberts fan. I liked it anyway. The movie features a full cast of wonderful and delightful characters. It is really these characters that make the film that much better.

Review: it's not terrably "deep", though it did have a nice point to it. i laughed a lot, though and i think you will too.

Summary: Runaway Success!
Review: This was a great script to pick for a re-pairing of Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Some neat twists and turns in the plot to keep it exciting. Again, great casting and great story. This movie also has a killer soundtrack. I am not a big fan of Richard Gere, but any time he is paired with Julia Roberts it seems to bring out the best in him! Another good one to add to your collection and watch over and over again.

Summary: Much, much better than I expected
Review: I find myself frequently renting videos in self-defense. I have seen virtually every movie in my local video store, and I frequently find myself renting of the ones that I haven't seen, the one that I think I will dislike least. That is how I rented THE RUNAWAY BRIDE.

I had been scared away from this one because of the utterly horrible reviews from when it first came out. I remember the film even made some Worse Movies of the Year lists. By no stretch of the imagination is this movie deserving of such notoriety.

I think two things hurt this film when it came out. One, NOTTING HILL had come out a month or two earlier, and it was easily one of the best films Julia Roberts had ever done. This one suffered somewhat by comparison with that much better film. Two, the comparison with PRETTY WOMAN. The latter is, by any criterion, a better film.

But I think anyone expecting this film to be a shaggy dog of a movie will be pleasantly surprised. It has a couple of major problems, the main one being a very weak script. There are some good ideas in it, and the basic premise is a fine one for a light romantic comedy. But overall the film lacks a sense of balance, and while other things might account for this (direction and editing, for instance), in this case the fault seems to lie with the script.

On the other hand, the cast is pretty strong. A number of the supporting characters were very fine, and Gere and Roberts were both quite enjoyable.

So, if you are like me, and have been avoiding this one because of the reviews when it came out, I would encourage you to take a risk. Not as nearly good as PRETTY WOMAN or NOTTING HILL, it is nonetheless a quite enjoyable light flick.

Summary: Contrived, boring garbage
Review: Richard Gere seemed bored during this movie. And well he might be. Alright, so most romantic comedies are predictable: girl-hates-boy, and in the end they fall in love. But the better ones cover this over with comedic twists and good acting. This film contains neither, though Julia Roberts tries. So contrived and badly written, you'll be embarrassed to be caught watching this. Bland cinematography, unfunny, and with little charm. Spend your money on Twinkies; they contain more substance than this sorry film.

Summary: One of Julia Roberts's best
Review: This is the first Julia Roberts movie that I saw, and I loved it. The biggest problem that make her movies awful sometimes is that the person she falls in love with is horrible, but Richard Gere plays Ike Grahm very well and he's completely likeable. Maggie Carpenter's friends play their supoporting roles really well, and they really add something to the movie. Plus Maggie's forlorn suitors really show their desolation well. I really recommend this movie.

Summary: It's as cheesy as the cover looks
Review: Lots of people I trusted told me that this was a great movie, with loads of chemistry between the two leads. They also told me Richard Gere was sexy in it. I should've known they were lying when they mentioned that last bit! I was betrayed. Oh well...

Don't get me wrong, the movie is passable for what it is: schmaltzy American fodder. The first half is the better half, as the Runaway Bride's friends open up to and enjoy the company of the 'evil' sexist journalist who is out to tarnish her name and exploit her exploits. Their naivety is endearing and amusing. Other than this point, I have nothing special to report!

I don't like Richard Gere. Julia Roberts is great, but... she keeps starring in the same movie over and over.

The ending was really what brought the whole project to a disappointing halt. It didn't know what it was doing! It was all psychobabble at the end of the day, really. Pretty scathing remarks from someone who lists Xanadu as one of her fave movies. Oh well, life is a paradox!

Summary: They have done it again!!!
Review: Julia and Richard are together again, and once more - they manage to shock the whole world with their EXCLUSIVE talents and their good chemistry!! As like Pretty Woman, the director Garry Marshall hits the audience again with good humour, great actors and such a great script!!! The script is so well detailed - evrything from Eggs Benedicte to Maggie's crazy grandma!

You just simply have to watch this movie, bring your boyfriend/girlfriend and ENJOY IT!!!

Oh - by the way: I also recommend the soundtrack!!! There are soooo many good songs from everywhere that you'll love it!!

Summary: Cute, light, but ....
Review: My first review of this movie was fairly positive. I like both Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, though not necessarily together.

Cute and light - ultimately, however, without substance.
