Summary: There's Something About this DVD
Review: There's Something About Mary is definitely a five star movie. I was going to write that the special features however are one star due to the fact there are hardly any but the US version available here seems to have more features. The Australian version hardly has any.

I'm assuming the few listed are the same. The music video is very disappointing as it's exactly the same as the end credits except it's full screen. I was expecting a full song about Mary from those guys with the guitar and drums who appear at different intervals throughout the movie. But no it's just the buttercup credit's song. The Karaoke feature is incidentally the exact same thing again just with words across the screen this time. They could have just had the subtitles feature available in the music video for the same effect. Usually Karaoke just has the instrumental music and not the words being sung. There is a theatrical trailer, director commentary and interactive menu but that's pretty much standard on any DVD so there?s nothing special there. The reason this annoys me is there?s a big icon on the cover that says "Warning Crammed With Lots of Outrageous Special Features?" Funny view of the meaning of the word, lots that the DVD makers must have. At least it seems you guys will get more.

There's Something About Mary is a definite movie to buy on DVD. It's the type of movie you can either watch in entirety or just watch bits of if short on time. The initial meeting of Ted and Mary's dog is my favourite. With or without special features this is still a great movie to own on DVD.

Summary: Loved it
Review: I love the idea of a bunch of guys being in love with the same woman, and it coming down to the end where they all confront her. And the Brett Favre cameo was definitely unexpected. Truly a masterpiece of comedy.

Summary: Peter & Bobby Farrelly at their best.
Review: "There's Something About Mary" is one of the funnniest movies ever made period. The movie begins in the seventies where
Ted (Ben Stiller) needs a date for the prom.Problem is Ted is a dorky looking kid with braces and is not good with girls. After seeing Mary he is instantly hooked.Even though he knows that he has no chance with her. After standing up for her mentally challenged brother he gets a date with her. When he arrives at her house on prom night he has an accident in the bathroom and his date is ruined. The movie jumps into the ninetys.Ted is now a grown man and he knows he missed out. After hiring a "detective"
(Matt Dillon) to track her down he becomes hooked on her and begins to stalk her.Hilarious things begin to erupt and the movie becomes as funny as you can imagine.I give this movie two thumbs up and A++ whatever I can give it this movie was funny!!!

Summary: Welcome back.
Review: This is the first movie I remember seeing where I really liked Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller. It's hilarious, all of the characters are willing to put ego aside and be ridiculous, and the physical comedy is top-notch.

This special edition DVD set also has a ton of extra features, allowing you to watch the unedited version or the theatrical release, hours of interviews (both at the time the movie was made and looking back 5 years later) and lots of making-of stuff. There's a special from Comedy Central, featurette's, etc. Well worth the purchase, especially if you liked the original release back in 1998.

Summary: Mary Has Quite A Set Of Discs On Her
Review: Following in the DVD do-over footsteps of The Mummy, T2 Judgement Day, and Stargate, to name a few, Something About Mary is upgraded to a two disc set, with all new extras not available on the previous release. As much as I loathe the practice of multiple DVD's of the same film, especially if the other release was a good disc to start with, I decided to give it a peek and then see if it would be worth the re-purchace

The film, is an uproarious comedy, that doesn't apologize for itself. Directed by the Farrelly Brothers, Peter and Bobby, the film follows in the grand tradition of AIRPLANE, or the brother's own DUMB AND DUMBER. Ted (Ben Stiller) has been in love with Mary (Cameron Diaz) since High School. At the urging of a pal (Chris Elliot), Ted decides to hire a Private Investigator named Pat Healy (Matt Dillon) to track her down so that he can visit her. Problems arise, when Pat finds her and falls in love with her, himself. Often criticized for its lewd and crude humor, ...MARY works because of the fact that the film takes humorous aim at many things. People and situations that are usally considered off limits, take it sqaure in the movie. The film is concerned only with making us laugh. It wouldn't work if it had to worry about being PC. Sometimes, I think folks can get carried away with stuff like that. If you see the film for what it is...you can appreciate that all it really does is make you laugh. Stiller is great as the hapless Ted, who can't seem to catch a break. Dillion surprised me with his comedic timing and he pulls off true smarmyness as Healy. Diaz plays it straight as the film's center, while at the same time, winking at the audience the entire time.

Some of the extras in the set are carried over from the single disc edition. As for the "new" stuff, thanfully, there's enough here for fans of the film to warrant your time and money. Disc 1 features 15 minutes of footage, that's incorporated into the movie, as a director's cut. It's just more lunacy, some of it works well with the theatrical cut, and some of it doesn't. The most interesting part of the first disc is the alternate clay animated opening sequence. Ah, what have been. The 2 audio commentary tracks are good from the writers and directors.

Disc 2 has a plethora of interviews, featurettes, and documentaries, about the film. Most of which wasn't on the previous disc. Some of it is repetative but it's well produced and fun. Highlights for me are the AMC Channel's Backstory and Comedy Central's Reel Comedy look at the film. Foriegn language clips, the theatrical trailer, televisision spots, posters, outtakes, and music videos top off the set.

All of this makes for a good set that should make fans want to ditch the single disc edition

Summary: there's something MORE
Review: "There's Something About Mary" is one of the funniest movies of our time already, and the addition of about 15-20 minutes to the actual feature make it even better. Some complained because, with the new footage, it's a two and a half hour long comedy, but, most people would be hard-pressed to lose any interest in Cameron Diaz in this one.

Summary: Gross, crude...funny Farrelly Bro's comedy
Review: There's Something About Mary (1998) Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon, Lee Evans, Chris Elliot, Lin Shaye, D: Bobby and Peter Farrelly. Brace-face softy/nerd Stiller finally gets the confidence of asking the girl of his dreams-a friendly knockout named Mary (Diaz)-to go to the prom, but an accident that leaves him incapacitated-physically and mentally-keeps him from seeing her again. Thirteen years pass, and he hires a sleazy undercover agent (Dillon) to track her down, who falls for her as well. Overly hyped moron-comedy, a Farelly Brothers collaboration that crosses DUMB AND DUMBER turf, is outrageous for two hours (having characters not trying to be funny but encountering embarrassments), and definitely hits the "gross guardrails". Diaz is more appealing than most as she smiles as much as possible, and Stiller and Dillon are very funny. Don't forget the unforgettable "hair-gel" gag ("Is that hair-gel?") and the zipper scene ("Is it the frank or the beans?"). Running Time: 119 minutes and rated R for nudity, crude sexual humor and language.

Summary: THERE'S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT MARY THAT THEY DON'T KNOW
Review: THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY is one of the greatest films ever made. It is from the Farrelly brothers, the creators of DUMB AND DUMBER and other classic films such as KINGPIN, SHALLOW HAL, OSMOSIS JONES, and the upcoming film, STUCK ON YOU. While I don't feel this film has exceeded DUMB AND DUMBER (that's just because I'm not sure any comedy can come close to doing such a thing)it comes closer than lots of other movies. The movie is about Ted. A clumsy kid who just tries to be polite, but things don't always work out the way he plans. Anyway, he gets to bring Mary, the hottest knockout in school,to the prom(so they made the right choice picking Cameron Diaz). Anyway, it seems like everything is finally going his way, until the night of the prom he becomes victim to an unfortunate, not to mention painfully embarrasing incident, which if you haven't seen the film, you've probably heard about it, but still, I'll spare you the details and let you see it for yourself. Anyway, the "incident" lands him in the hospital, and deprived him of being able to attend his own senior prom with Mary. Later that summer, Mary's stepfather was relocated from Rhode Island to Miami, due to his occupation, and Ted never saw Mary again, or at least not for another 13 years. You guessed it, 13 years later, Ted finds himself talking to a therapist, about his continuing infatuation, and possible love for the somewhat old flame who got away back in high school. Anyway, a friend of his suggests having a person track her down. Anyway, there are a few bumps along the road, and not everything goes according to plan, but his painfully hilarious, but fictional journey to love and self-discovery (maybe not self-discovery) makes for a great movie that you can enjoy over and over again, and that may eventually become one of the greatest comedies and love stories of our time. If not, you'll laugh your ... off watching the movie, because there's something about Mary, that even today, still has people talking.

Summary: Note: Not a sequel, apparently
Review: I agree with most of the reviewers that Something About Mary is hilarious. But the title gives the impression that this DVD is a sequel, and only on the "more technical information" screen, where the theatrical release date is given as 1998, is it apparent that it is the original movie with additional material. This should be made plainer on the front page for the DVD.
