Summary: Worth A Few Chuckles
Review: Comedy is predicated on its ability to be unpredictable, and THE WRONG GUY is largely the victim of easily guessed jokes waiting for you just around the corner. Still, Dave Foley and Jennifer Tilly manage to charm this one-and-one-half hour with enough harmless chuckles that make it worth a single viewing.

Foley stars as Nelson Hippert (or was that Hibbert?), who -- after losing a promotion to CEO of his future father-in-law's company -- inadvertantly believes he's a wanted fugitive, on the lamb, for murder. Once the opening schtick is over with, the story finds a better pace in the capable comedic talents of his new-found true love (Tilly) and her savings-and-loan operator father (the vastly underrated Joe Flaherty of SCTV fame). There are also a handful of great bits surrounding the small-town cops finally given federal funding to assist in the search for the real killer, but don't look for any breakout performances here.

A welcome diversion, THE WRONG GUY won't be a wrong choice.

Summary: Some really funny lines, but weak in some places
Review: David Foley stars as Nelson Hibbert an unlikable young yuppie corporate brown-noser, and Jennifer Tilley co-stars as his narcoleptic girlfriend.

When his boss is murdered, Hibbert, who discovers the body, fears he will be blamed, and goes on the run, unaware the police already have video camera footage of the true killer. What follows is a classic 'cat and mouse' game between police, trying to nab the true killer with Nelson, bumbling in, and out of the picture.

This movie starts of rather slowly, with some unfunny scenes at the murder scene. It gets a bit better with the addition of Jennifer Tilley, and a couple of corrupt police detectives.

Was this film the greatest film ever made? No, Nelson was simply too unlikable of a character for me to enjoy for the amount of screen time we were subjected to, and his transformation from 'corporate bootlicker' to 'small town hero' was a bit of a stretch, even for a versatile actor such as Dave. I did enjoy the 'evil' Farmer Brown character, though, and some of the lines in the later half were a hoot..

Overall C- fare, with some occasional REALLY funny lines. Worth viewing, but not a keeper for me.

Summary: UGH!!!
Review: Embarrassing. This movie is truely lame and a waste of time. A real non-sequitor for Dave Foley's usual good work.

Summary: bad
Review: how could this be released into video stores. it should have stayed away from the theatres and been shelved forever. this is absolutely the worst atrocity of a movie ever made.

Summary: The 'Right' Guy
Review: I admit it. I am a Kids In The Hall freak. I got this movie just because Dave Foley was in it. I knew nothing about it and knew that my wife was going to give me [heck] for making her watch it. We both loved it. We watched it once. Then a friend came over and we watched it again (with the friend). The next day, I came in from working in the yard and caught my wife watching it yet again! It is difficult to explain the appeal. Cute, dark (in a very light way),laugh out loud, fun.

Summary: Definitely worth it.
Review: I just rented this movie, having no idea what it was like, other than it had Dave Foley in it. My wife and I loved it. If you look at the reviews, it's obvious this is a love it or hate it movie. You either get it or you don't. I did, and I loved it.

Summary: I love Kids in the Hall, but this was too smug for me
Review: I know Dave Foley is brilliant, but I hated this movie (much like some of his Kids in the Hall skits), not because it's dumb, but because it's way too....arrogant. It's also suppose to be a homage or satire of Hitchcock, but still...

... Granted, this humor does have an audience, but if you are like me and just hated those KITH Monty Python-esque skits in which the silliness was WAY too dry, cold-blooded, lacking emotion, smug, you'll hate this. I loathe this sort of humor. Don't get me wrong, I love absurdism like anyone. There's nothing better than Dom Jolly out on the street pulling ridiculous pranks on people, but some absurdism is just way to cartoonish for me. If you love those smug, gentle "I get it, so brilliant" laughs, go for this one.

Summary: Dave Foley, You Are Sitting On A Comic GOLDMINE!!!
Review: I rented this movie on the fact that it stars Dave Foley, a man of whom I've only heard of. That, and I saw the trailer. Now that my life's history is done with, let's get on with the movie. Yay.
Dave Foley plays Nelson Hibbert, a mild-mannered working stiff who's promised a promotion. When he fails to get that promotion and goes to tell his boss off, he finds him dead and runs off thinking he'll be pinned for the crime, despite what security cameras actually saw. What follows is an unforgettable comic escapade which only gets funnier and funnier.
Good lord, does this movie have a great cast. Besides the terrific Dave Foley, Jennifer Tilly co-stars as Dave's narcoleptic love interest, and Colm Feore, of whom I saw in a ... independent film called 'Century Hotel' last month, plays the REAL killer. Not to mention, Joe Flaherty is in it, so it HAS to be good.
And did I mention this movie was funny? Because it is. The jokes keep coming and coming like a cow's milk on Arbor Day. And the final showdown at the golf course only gets funnier and funnier...
And since Hollywood did not have this movie on DVD, and for some reason, put it in the 'New Releases' section, I did not get it on a little disc, so don't ask me about the special features, 'cuz I don't got none, okay?! God, there were a lot of commas in that last sentence...

Luv,
Muttz!
