Summary: Back in the Day
Review: I remember watching this movie when I was younger and I failed to understand most of it, but I enjoyed it. Watching this movie now as an adult, I can now understand all of it and I enjoyed it more than I did as a child. Even though the Car Washes of yesterday have just about disappeared, this movie is a reminder of a simpler time when there was no internet and fashion was groovy! It's comedy at it's best.

Summary: Very funny movie with soul
Review: I've seen this movie many times. It's funny and I don't agree when people say this movie is funny but doesn't have a lot to say. One of the characters struggles with his identity as a black man in "white" America and his character struck me as being very real. You could sense his frustration and in the end understood him better. Another part of the movie deals with a character who is an ex-con who is trying to move on with his life and put his negative past behind him. But you have to sympathize with him because he is a middle aged man whose only skilled enough to work at a car wash.

I think basically the story is this; everyone who works at the car wash dreams of something better. In the mean time they just keep working at the car wash. I think you'll like it. The characters are great and it's a good movie if you want to check out how people REALLY dressed in the 70's. That alone should give you a good laugh. Don't forget guest appearances by Richard Pryor and George Carlin. Rose Royce also did a great job with the Soundtrack.

Summary: Its A Classic..... Sort Of!!!
Review: Its.... Unique... Not a waste of time..... Clever... Reminds me of LA..... & a trip back to the 70's. Its a great film when you don't want to think... and you want to be entertained & think ... Did we ever dress like that...???? No, Pryor doesn't stick out... but who cares.... the film has a component of nuts n bolts to hold the whole thing together.... & for the most part - everyone is semi-happy..... in a Car Wash....(makes you think for a minute).....

Summary: Sweet slice of life
Review: Just saw this movie for the first time and LOVED it. I'm a 40-something woman who goes for opera, art-house films, old Hollywood classics... and this kind of unpretentious movie that presents a cross-section of people living their lives, making peace (or not) with their circumstances of the moment, having fun, getting serious... I must disagree with the reviewer who called the car wash owner a tightwad--he's in the process of losing his shirt, yet trying not to let his employees down. Almost all of the characters in the movie reminded me of people I've known; they were wonderfully rendered as individuals. (Things sure were more innocent then--dig Calvin the Terror!)

Summary: cut scene?
Review: OK - I am debating getting this on DVD since I already have the VHS. What I want to know is, does the DVD ending show the secretary getting into the white convertible (a Buick?) with the "extra" guy in the back seat while the good looking guy is hooked up with a blonde in the front? I saw this ending on TV before they starting editing movies for TV and distinctly remember the let down she experienced, seeing her dream guy just using her. If you think about it, it fits in with the movie's undertone of sadness and unrealized dreams.

In case I didn't state it, the current version I have seen on Turner Classic Movies and on my VHS copy do not show this scene, it is cut immediately after the car horn is heard outside at the close of the day.

Thanks!!

GREAT MOVIE. SUPER FLY LIVES - "bbbzzzzzssssssssssssssssss"

Summary: Car Wash - The world's first "Disco Slacker" comedy.
Review: One of my very favorite movies from the '70's. So many great comedy stars featured in this film the list is almost too long -- George Carlin, Garrett Morris, Franklin Ajaye, Melanie Mayron, Professor Irwin Cory, Bill Duke, The Pointer Sisters, Richard Pryor and more. Every song on the soundtrack is performed by Rose Royce and sets exactly the perfect mood for every scene in the film. Sit back and enjoy.
